- Lesson on pyrimidine synthesis and metabolism, what it is, medications used to inhibit the pathway and the importance of of the pyrimidine synthesis pathway in human health.
In this lesson, I teach you guys what pyrimidines are, the three pyrimidines (cytosine, uracil, thymine), and an easy way to remember the pyrimidines. I also talk about the critical steps in the pyrimidine synthesis pathway including carbamoyl phosphate synthase 2 (CPS2), orotic acid production, why we need PRPP and the critical importance of thymidylate synthase.

Best thing is how highlights clinical points
krunal patel.... yeah... most of other youtube tutors don't do that.... and I have to find clinics separately..... but this man saves my time.... I appreciate it a lot....
Thank you so much. You explained this so clearly. I have to present a paper to my class on cytidine deaminase and the pyrimidine salvage pathway and this video helped a lot.
Good lecture, just a note: pyrimidine free bases such as cytosine and thymine are rarely salvaged in humans
Wish I found this before this comment was old, but what you said really interested me. Are you saying free pyrimidine bases get broken down rather than salvaged? Or is it that it's rare for free pyrimidine bases to even form? I always find it hard to look up biochemistry pathways and know if I'm looking at a human pathway or not. So much information isn't clarified.
5:30 thymilydate synthases & cancer
9:20 pyrimidine salvage pathway , from cytocine

WHY GOD WHY DO WE HAVE TO STUDY BIOCHEMISTRY
Aww sorry! I'm majoring in biochemistry by the way
@@charlemengsimon8645For what joy 😭😭😭
Great explanation
that's great dear doctor
Hello! Just a clarification; isn't the first committed enzyme should be named carbamoyl phosphate synthetase since it uses ATP? based on literature, synthase is an enzyme that doesn't use ATP, so I'm just wondering why you're saying it's synthase when it's using ATP.
Thank you
Actually synthase is the one which requires ATP often not synthetase
great video
Will it be possible to have a link of the slides of the lecture as well? :)
is this enough to know about pyrimidine synthesis for usmle step 1? someone who has passed can you telll me/
very helpful, thank you
awesome 💜
What are the end products of dTMP catabolism?
Y did you start at glutamine and not bicarbonate?
thank you so much !
is di-hydroorotate the first pyrimidine ring or is it orotic acid?
It's dihydroorotate
Please what is CpS2?!
Carbamoyl Phosphate Synthetase 2
PRPP is not inhibited by ATP it's inhibited by AMP and GMP
As well as IMP
You are lieing borther it is inhibited by adp😮
@@EtrosMaushePRPP synthetase is inhibited by ADP
Thanks so much
dTp means?
Deoxy thymine monophosphate

👍👍
I think the carbamoyl aspartate structure is wrong. because the amino group of aspartate attacks the carbonyl group of carbamoyl phosphate.
Hello, can you write an literature ?
Orotic acid is a cool substance ... coz it sounds like being erotic acid
..when I was in 6th grde
wow
You know..your lectures are insufficient as all you talk about is how you have mentioned necessary details in other videos. Please tell me how am I supposed to collect information like an old age scholar a day prior to exam. At least do a basic introduction of the stuff. Thank you.
maybe dont start studying the day before the exam dipshit?
