I remember watching the 49er playoff game. It WAS amazing, how the Cowboys pulled that out. Packers had come back and beat them in the same fashion in that '67 Ice Bowl, and good teams are like that. Cowboys would also come back and win with little time left against the Vikings (1975) and Atlanta twice (1978, 1980) in playoff games.
@@michaelleroy9281 Big Packers on a roll in 1972. Redskins snuffed the Pack's running game in the '72 playoffs, however, and that was the end of the Packers for a while.
@@michaelleroy9281 I hear ya. They were indestructable in the 1990s for a while. Clever trades and good drafting kept them near the top for a long time, though. Most great teams automatically lose those top draft picks and deteriorate over time because of it. It took a long time for the Dallas franchise to run out of gas. Same with those '84 Steelers. Credit Coach Knoll for keeping them good after most of their great players from the Super Bowl days had retired. They were good in the 1980s - but like you mentioned about the Cowboys - they were not great. Still amazing, though. I mean, there they were, in the 1984 AFC Title Game, vs the Super Dolphins. You'd think those franchises would take a big fall, like the Colts after their great 1960s players hung it up, or the Chiefs of the 70s, when the champion team began to age.
Ron Sellers who caught the winning touchdown in that unbelievable game at the Niners was only with the Cowboys for that season he wore number 88 the year before Drew Pearson arrived
Lilly, Edwards, Jordan (who had his best year the next year 73) Renfro, Green, were all part of a pretty good team that went to the 73 championship game, losing to the Vikings....that no one thought would be there (the Pokes, not the Vikings).....it's a tribute to the young and old mix they had, with Dupree (as a rookie) having a fine year, Drew Pearson (also a rookie), the emergence of Newhouse, Hill having a 1000 Yd. year, and a tribute to Landry....oh, forgot Harvey Martin was part of the rookie class in 73 (too), 72, love em or hate em, beat the 49'ers, in the playoffs.....and another thing, 72 was Newhouse's rookie year.....all in all, a good year for the 'Boys....
Narrator says Staubach went down in the fifth week????? It was a preseason game against the Rams IIRC. Morton was starting the opening week against Philly.
I cannot understand how Dallas' anemic final game loss to the Giants didn't cost them the division title. Entering Week 14, the Rerdskins were 11-2, Dallas were 10-3. The Cowboys had beaten Washington worse than the Skins beat Dallas, so why wouldn't there have been an opportunity to take first after the Skins lost to Buffalo earlier in the day? What was the tiebreaker if not head to head scores?
But it turned out that Washington had the tiebreaker advantage over Dallas, so even winning over NY, the Cowboys would have had to settle for the wild card. For years I thought the Skins' loss earlier in the day to Buffalo had opened the door for the Cowboys, but that apparently wasn't true, the tiebreaker was not total head to head points.

Thanks for the Upload of this Video. I am from Texas and a Die Hard Houston Fan.
They always seem to be a Team To Emulate.
This was the year of the Dolphins and the Redskins.

Roger Staubach and his first come from behind win at San Francisco was unbelievable

They didn't play the Vikings or the Falcons in the 1972 season they lost to the Packers in week 3

The 72-73 Cowboys really missed Duane Thomas he was a home run hitter Calvin Hill wasn't
Ron Sellers who caught the winning touchdown in that unbelievable game at the Niners was only with the Cowboys for that season he wore number 88 the year before Drew Pearson arrived
Calvin Hill first Cowboy with 1,000+ yards rushing
The Cowboys were 9-3 when they played the Redskins on Saturday December 9,1972.
Lilly 33, Andrie 32, Edwards 33, Jordan 31, Howley 36, Adderley 33, Renfro 31, Green 32. Dallas needed a major overhaul on defense
They would all be gone by 1977 Renfro was the last of those to retire

If Dallas had won this game, they would have been 11-3 also. Thus a tiebreaker would have settled first place. You can understand that, right?
