  • Here's a highly effective old-school technique for finding those oil leaks that only happen under certain conditions - like when you're driving at highway speeds.
Important: Do not rev the engine while the breathers are clamped. The excess pressure could damage the gaskets and oil seals in your engine.
This is actually a variation of an old Chrysler shop procedure for finding difficult-to-find oil leaks. The original method involves plugging the breathers entirely and applying some throttle while monitoring the crankcase pressure with a gauge.
This variation makes it possible for the average car owner or DIY mechanic to use this trick without the need for special tools.

Brilliant. So I'm how many decades old and didn't know this trick? Sure beats my old method: adding radioactive dye to the oil (helps if you have a buddy who is Nuclear Med Tech who can sneak some out of the lab) and then use a military grade flurospectrometor and Xenon flash lamp (helps if you have a buddy who is an international armament dealer), then be sure to put on a radiation hazmat suit (helps if you have a buddy who works at a nuclear power plant to sneak you a used one) then make sure all your pets are 65' away (or else all their hair will fall out) then...

Oh this better work. I've tried the dye and light method and it was still hard to tell. Seems like more than one place. Hopefully this one helps. Thanks for the detail description

Time for a new oil pan? Or was that just the plug?

It turned out to be the weld around the plug. A bit of JB Weld sealed that right up.

My oil seems to be leaking in the same spot of the video. Crater spot of the oil pan. Name of spot?

@@nayner248 It should be this one, if I remember correctly : amzn.to/3T3a8cI
It's great for finding leaks, especially in automotive AC systems. I also use it to find small insects that may have made their way into the shop.
