- One of my most keenly requested guitars to review is finally here, the EVH Striped Series 'Frankie' Model. It totally captures the vintage vibe and sound and plays fantastically, massively enhanced with the modern build quality and features.
P.S. Haters will say it needs a 1971 Quarter to captures Eddie's tone.
Widely regarded as the most recognizable electric guitar ever, Eddie Van Halen’s iconic and revered Frankenstein™ guitar now comes your way with a price tag the everyday musician can afford in the form of the EVH® Striped Series Frankie.
Sporting Eddie’s famed red with a white-and-black-striped paint job and a worn-in reliced look, the all-new Frankie features a basswood Stratocaster®-style body paired to a graphite-reinforced quartersawn maple neck. An oiled finish on the back of the neck allows for hours of playing comfort, while the 12”-16” compound radius maple fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets was designed for fast and furious playing styles.
Routed for an HSS pickup configuration just like Eddie’s original, Frankie features an EVH Wolfgang® humbucking bridge pickup with a dummy Strat® neck pickup and a dummy five-way blade housed in the middle position.
A sturdy and dependable EVH-branded Floyd Rose® locking trem and Floyd Rose locking nut work in tandem for precise tuning even with extreme changes in pitch, while the EVH D-Tuna® retunes to drop-D and back with strict accuracy at the flick of a finger.
Other unique features include a white skirted Strat-style single volume control knob (labeled “tone”), custom black pickguard, reliced chrome hardware, standard strap buttons, and EVH neck plate.

How many people realize what a fan this guy really is? He's not just playing the "Aw-everybody-plays-that" licks like Eruption, Panama, Hot for Teacher, etc., this guy is digging out gems that only the die hard fans know. The fascinating part to me is that, not only does he nail the notes, he nails the tone too. A million people own the amps and guitars, but they still don't sound like Eddie, and Cameron is only the second person I've ever heard whose fingers are built the same way Eddie's are, so that the "eddie" sound comes off the strings... (the other is Jacob Deraps)
It's really stunning how accurate he is. Especially if you've listened to dozens of other youtubers, who try but don't really get it quite right.
So true he really did well. Lots of people missing that something when they try to play like EVH.
Hats off to him, he even plays Hagar era stuff.
He's actually better at licks than the snappy EVH timing on the rhythmic stuff, but I believe he'll get there also.

It took me 11 years to be able to figure out how to play the majority of Eddie's stuff and that was in the '80s & '90s, (& a lot of rewinding cassettes). I was just about there and then became a quadriplegic, in a skiing accident. You’re playing the hell outta that EVH! Great stuff, and fun to listen to. Thanks for sharing this, absolutely great stuff!

Guitars were and are my life until I ripped off my whole finger tip on my fretting hand ring finger when I was 16 in 1996. Can't play with that most important finger and hurts me emotionally even to this day.

Eddies been my favorite for 45 years. I still can’t play with his swagger.
Top get to his level of playing VH, he spent hundreds, probably thousands of hours of practice. You can copy Eddie's style and feel, but it's going to take an unbelievable amount of work.

Loved this video. Eddie was my hero, as a kid, he made me want to learn guitar, and they were my favorite band ever, from about the ages of 7-13. My dad is an absolutely massive fan, and some of my favorite memories of him is us listening to them. He's dabbled in guitar, but I've started to take it seriously, and learning more and more everyday. So, I decided that as a joint christmas gift, I ordered this guitar today, and as I learn more, I'm going to teach him, on it. He is going to be through the roof excited for it, and I absolutely can't wait!

Ordered mine , it comes 14th Feb . Happy valentines day to me.
Mine arrived yesterday. I got lucky when I was surfing the web for one last Friday and Sam Ash had one left. I’ve always been leery of buying guitars that I haven’t been able to play, but these are hard to come by now so I ordered it. When I got it out of the box I was surprised at how well it was setup, the action was low with no buzzing. Needed no additional setup from me at all. Prob the best playing guitar out of the box I’ve ever had. I’ve heard a few people say that the finish was a wrap and they were all the same. That’s not true. It’s obvious these are hand painted. You can feel the ridges between colors where the tape was applied. I always wanted a good quality Frankie and this is worth every penny to me. Plays like butter and sounds awesome.
You have the love in your heart for the music Eddie Van Halen composed and played. I shed a few tears when he died but people like you keep the legend living for ever more and for that I salute you sir.

I managed to play one of these at my local guitar place this past weekend and, my god. It feels like how I’d image a f1 car would feel to drive. Insanely responsive, and you can swing it around so fast it almost hurts. I’m absolutely in love with this guitar and am currently putting aside a bit of my paychecks to save up.

Imagine having spent 20k+ on the Fender Custom Shop one then seeing this?? Okay, yes, the CS one is insanely accurate, but, that price difference doesn't match the difference in the end results imo.
