Thanks. Three of my Aunts married Italian boys, so even though I'm technically not Italian, I feel a bit Italian. I remember as a kid walking home from school, I would stop by Joe the Roman's Market and pick up my mom's order. The moment you walked into the store, the smells were amazing. My mom would make Sunday Gravy every Wednesday like clockwork. At Christmas my Uncle would make homemade sausage that was to die for, and mozzarella. Such good memories. Shelby
There is something magical about that first bite of braciole. Three of my Aunts married Italian boys and I learned from them, taking what I liked best from each of their styles. I get my tomatoes from a store called Claro's, my FAVORITE store. When I was little, I would stop by Roman's store on the way home from school and pick up my mom's order. Joe would have it waiting for me. The smell when you walked in the store was amazing and the BREAD.
Hi Shelby.. I’m binge watching your videos. 😊. I never deglazed my meatball pan. Love, love love! I can’t wait to try it. Also.. slow and low on those onions.. I never thought to do that.. and my gravy is always a wee bit acidic. Bet it solves the problem. Fabulous! Hugs!!
Lol! Shelby, We Italians love to share our food and our recipes (I think it's so we can have our food when we come to visit!). lol! But seriously, if you master a good Sunday Sauce and a good basic marinara, you can do so much with them. I have been cooking Italian since I could reach the stove at my Nonna's house, and taught my daughter before she got married (she's an excellent cook like you are...no skimping, either). It's good to see someone else do it right. Take care! Tess
Great recipe. Also, really funny commentary about which tomatos to use. It's an ongoing debate whenever i'm around friends who like to cook. my favorites tend to be san marzano - where the label says product of italy Second favorite are san marzano's grown in California. Both delicious, and great for a recipe like this.
Well you heard about the grandma that made the best pot roast in town? She would cut a large piece off of one end, sear it in hot oil, season it up and then cook it on the stove. Her daughter made it the same way cutting off the end of the roast. When it came time to teach the grand daughter, she asked her grandma why she cut the end of the roast off. Grandma replied because I didn't have a pan big enough. To answer your question, My grandma taught me, maybe she ran out of bread? hahahaha
It does take a while to cook, but you can use the sauce all week long. First night spaghetti, next night lasagna, next night pizza, next night meatball sandwiches etc. Shelby
Thanks for the recipe! My Dad was telling me about his Nonna's Sunday Gravy. She started it on Friday night for after church on Sunday. I am going to try to make it for him and my family. Unfortunately, we don't have her recipe. She didn't write anything down. :(
Michelle my family is like the huge family from My Big Greek Wedding except we aren't Greek. hahahahh I think I have 57 first cousins.......so I'll cook a big pot of Sunday Gravy because there is always a tone of people at our house. Poor Ken, he is an only child. hahahah Shelby
Wow, that is a lot! I have a lot of siblings but there are not very many in our family and we don't visit each other often. It still looks delicious regardless and I would love to have some! Lol.
Jenna I have found that oregano becomes bitter when you freeze it, but you could scale the recipe down for sure. Or maybe leave the Italian seasoning out and just add it when you thaw it. Let me know if you try to freeze it. Shelby
Low and slow all day......when your family comes through the door it will smell like Heaven. Top that with some garlic bread baking in the oven. Ken says it is the best air freshener LOL. HUGS Shelby Here is a link to my compound garlic butter, it freezes beautifully ruclips.net/video/Nnwz_AEgBjQ/видео.html
I love your videos and when I saw this one labeled "sunday gravy" and I thought why would that take almost 15 minutes? You should rename it "stuffed beef (steak) with a sunday gravy" or something like that. Great video.
ataylorai1 she called it Sunday Gravy because that is what the recipe is called. It's a special Sunday sauce. If she called it something else. People like me wouldn't be able to find it. I am trying to recreate my Nonna's Sunday Gravy.
I'm not really sure Dusty. I try and stir them gently when I first put them in the sauce, until they are cooked through. That is all I can think of. Regardless, I bet it tasted goooooooood!! :D
Sounds amazing. Ive been trying to find a Sunday gravy recipe. Thank you for sharing.

Glad to hear you gave it a try, and that your hubby enjoyed it. The leftovers are even better the next day.
My mother would make the braciole and put a hard boiled egg in it too. I still remember as a kid how good it was.
Beautiful memory Sandra! Shelby

That is what happens when you get old...hahahahhah...sent
I made this sauce last week but my meatballs broke and I only had four in there.. why is that ? I didn’t cook it on high..🤔
I'm not really sure Dusty. I try and stir them gently when I first put them in the sauce, until they are cooked through. That is all I can think of. Regardless, I bet it tasted goooooooood!! :D
why use the soaked bread and the bread crumb?
That is A LOT of work. Yikes.
LOL
