I found it strange looking at the new digital display in my CX-69, only having the traditional look with the cruise control switched off. Now after having the cat for a few months, the new look is preferred over the traditional. Shock to me. The BMW looks good and the performance is more than enough. The PHEV for me though.
I would pick the 330 xd, diesel still makes sense for long haulers and the pleasure of the 6 pots is worth paying for. The 5 still better thought, only too long. Perfectly in Line with the fact station makes more sense in general , specifically on driving pleasure vs SUVs. Thanks.
I’m a fan of technology but why put the things you use everyday in the info system like heaters. It’s just a distraction taking your eyes off the road. If I had the choice I would request Knobs and buttons for heaters and heated seats rather than fumbling around on a screen when your moving.
The idea is the car knows better, and warms or cools you, as needed. Sounds great, but I seem to be more sensitive, than BMW engineers have envisioned.
Marek, you are exactly on my wavelength in regards to the OS8 - exactly how i feel. And I don't need fake engine/exhaust noise to drive quickly, thanks - let me turn it off!!! Recently i test-drove two pre-LCI M-Sport G21 320i and i found the seats particularly uncomfortable, actually painful! I think the hard stitching on the base of the seat was digging into my bottom, it is an odd pattern & don't know why they done it like that. Also one model had the passive M-Sport suspension on normal 18-inch tyres and was surprised and disappointed that far from being a hard ride, as people claim, the thing was bouncy - relatively soft dampers! The other model was on the 'adaptive' suspension with 19-inch runflats and it was more composed yet still felt a little wallowy as the rear in Sport mode than i would've expected - but away, the sports seats! :-( The passive was year 2020 and the adaptive 2021. The car(s) didn't feel as big to drive as they look externally but i expected better space in the rear and boot. OS-7 was fine but feel like too much info on the dash and A/C buttons not the best (at least it had them!). 20i quick enough for daily use. Yes! *that* is the quote i've been feeling to say to BMW [and others]: *Premium starts with physical experience, not digital.* thanks for wording it so well, Marek! To be honest the door-closing sound and the strong power-trains (and heated steering wheel) are the only things that keep my appeal to beemers; but odd designs, digital BS & high-pricing mean i won't buy any of the latest models.
I never had a problem with any digital surface or infotainment UNTIL I tested this new BMW OS8 system. It is so unnecessarily complicated, unlogical, and cluttered that it left me baffled through the whole test drive day I had with it. Eventually, I just gave up on it and drove the car - BMW really needs to improve it. Other than that - the 340i was just lovely and drove perfectly - I even preferred it to M3 I drove the same day. So "live", communication and just sublime while easy to drive fast and enjoy it.
MAREK you are in top form..Nice car but I'm not sure about the cockpit..there is something going on with the German brands what with VW & there entertainment systems...mmm 🤔 Excellent review as always 👏
Just simple , they want u get used to the “EV future” design and the most important thing is they make a huge plan for option subscriptions. That is why they remove all the hard buttons and in the future u have to pay subscriptions for what u want and it will appear in the screen for u.
I ordered the 320 touring with the m package but the standard chassis. the sports suspension was too hard for me. I still think it's a good combination. I think the sports seats are very good and they also keep you in position. I drive 300-500km every day.
@@Koorvkungen It's a petrol engine and the 320i is easily enough to drive on the highway. Overtaking is no problem either. You don't need the annoying adblue either.
Any chance you could try an Alpina B5 or B3 just interested in the supposed ride quality and comfort plus mode etc Is it that different to standard adaptive or even SE standard suspension
I still think the current BMW design language is terrible but I think this touring is one of the better applications of it. I'm actually quite surprised at how much I like this car as a total package. I wouldn't need XxDrive where I live, but the rest of it seems pretty good. If only people realised how much better wagons are compared to SUVs for most tasks.
BMW decided this much power needs xDrive. Maybe they know something about their drivers :) Still, with traction control off this can go sideways at relatively low speed, so hooning box is checked.
Station wagons in my opinion are the ultimate car. However, they’re not so popular in most areas outside of Europe cos of many car buyers suffering from anti stationwagonism. And I do think Americans do miss out on the 3er Touring (both G21 and G81 ie M3 Touring). The reason why it’s not coming there is apparently not because of anti stationwagonism (even though station wagon popularity has declined so much there for quite some time); it’s because the 3er Touring isn’t homologated for the states.
They do sell them in Asia, BMW Japan and BMW Korea have all the Tourings up for sale. I do wish we got them here in America though, we can’t even do the Canada cheat like with the C43 because they never sold it anywhere in NA 😢
@@realAlexChoi Over 60% of global wagon sales are in Europe. While BMW wagons are available in Japan, Korea and even the M3 Touring in some parts of Southeast Asia, they’re not very popular.
@@DaveDVideoMaker I didn’t know EU sales made up that much of the total count! I’ve seen my fair share of 340 and M3 Tourings in Korea and Japan, so they do seem to be getting more popular there, but not near European levels yet. I really wish US and EU crash testing was unified so we’d be able to get a 3er Touring in America!
I like that gearbox requires only one pull from park to drive compared to Volvo's double pull. But wheel feels too thick for my hands. Double thumbs up for the tailgate hinge. Don't care about missing struts, but the hinge that lets tailgate to open away from the car, not into it, is worthe every penny in cold climate. Sadly, most of the manufacturers have opted it out by now. If only BMW stopped the nonsense of subscription hardware...
I really like your funny but sharp reviews. Great car by the way. Only at the back with all the plastics down under in some colors it looks 'hot rod style with openings in the back" ...gr from Holland
That cockpit is the ultimate fail in design. Not integrated at all in interior, looks like just a tablet glued in middle and held by small piece of plastic in middle of dashboard. Then there is grill... I didn't think it could get worse than massive grill in recent BMW models, but they did manage to do it. Looks like cheap plastic taken from Dacia interior.
It's a a forced tech update IMO. Since their new products get OS8, they wanted to move older cars to the new system ASAP, and t his is what they came up with :/
Hello Marek, I just bought 330xd touring. I can tell you car is great, try to review 330xd engine and you will see what a beast! All that you need. This car is even better than I expected I drive him now allmost one month and I drove allready 4300 km and is flavless. What do you think about 3 series touring? Btw. You are great No. Car jurnalist. Best wishes and carry on!
I reviewed the 540d in the past, so I know how great that engine is. I think they had to cut a few horses because of emissions since my test drive, but a great powerplant nonetheless. ruclips.net/video/9l5_4MkUr_w/видео.html
It’s a damned shame that American’s only want big and pointlessly stupid SUVs. I WISH I could get a good sport wagon. Seriously BMW, you may not sell many, but still…give us this car!
I wish we got these in the US. Id buy one tomorrow if I could.
Really nailed the review, some people (like me) actually want to know about boot size and fuel economy etc - subscribed
Rear-door-adoring-sketch is great, well done, good work as usual!🤣😂
Thank you! 😁
The best review I found!
Thanks, you're too kind. But I'll take it :)
So behind the “dashboard” is a massive dust trap, hating the beemer
Regarding dashboard, i'll quote Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon : "I'm to old for this shit!"
It's more or less what I said in a review of another high-tech car. You'll see it in two weeks.
👍👍👍👍door sound intro was something😂😂😂😂
Always preferred wagons to sedans, and this one is just confirming the conclusion.
But the display - blood from my eyes.
Excellent review.
Has to be one of the best do-it-all cars you can buy!
