- Macarena Ramírez Cepedo (Chiclana de la Frontera, Cádiz, 1992) es una de esas bailaoras que tanto nos gustan en este canal, una bailaora de nueva hornada que mantiene el uso de la bata de cola y del mantón. Savia nueva del flamenco que bebe de lo antiguo, lo arcaico, lo clásico.
Pero no es solo vestir la bata de cola y el mantón lo que la caracteriza. La chiclanera sobre las tablas está como poseída por el espíritu de Pepa Montes, de Carmen Amaya o de Merche Esmeralda. Es esa forma de herir el suelo con un taconeo electrizante y luego acariciarlo con la cola de la bata. Es esa forma de mover el mantón, de ponérselo y desdoblarlo y envolverse con él. La esencia en el frasco pequeño, la pureza del baile dentro de una muchacha de 28 años.
En esta selección tenemos la fortuna de encontrar algunos bailes completos, lo que no se puede decir de todos los vídeos de este canal. La mayoría, sino todos, son por alegrías de Cádiz, así que podemos ver a una autóctona bailando el palo de su tierra. En muchas de las actuaciones aquí incluidas, Macarena luce un vestuario escaso en variedad, pero sobrado en belleza y majestuosidad. Destaca una bata de cola blanca con lunares negros, la que más se repite en este vídeo, y que combina con diferentes mantones. La segunda bata de cola que más aparece aquí es una blanca y verde, también preciosa, como la anterior, y que, en una de las actuaciones, complementa con un mantón blanco bordado en verde y enorme, otra preciosidad.

6. Por alegrías en la final del Cante de las Minas, en 2017, con la bata de lunares y mantón negro bordado en colores (desde el minuto 19:18).
7. De nuevo por alegrías, en el Corral de la Morería (desde el minuto 27:58).
8. Otra vez por alegrías, con la bata de lunares y un precioso mantón beige (desde el minuto 36:55).
9. Y aquí por alegrías, con la bata de cola blanca y verde y el mantón a juego, maravilloso vestuario. (desde el minuto 49:17).
10. Por alegrías en "Alcobendas Flamenca", en 2017 (desde el minuto 62:25).
11. Y terminamos con otras alegrías de su Cádiz natal (desde el minuto 76:52).

These flamenco dances with scarves, veils etc are related to Middle Eastern dances like the female bedroom wedding night dance, the Dance Of The Seven veils. Although such exoyic dances look sexy, passionate etc and are intended to be very exciting, en t icing, they are not the cheap exotic tupe dancing we see them as in western style sleazy sex clubs, bars, strip joints etc. They actually very serious ritualistic dances about life, nature, regeneration etc.
You can see the Arabic influence in these bata de cola flamenco dances, whose Middle Eastern roots could be belky dancing, like the famous female Middle Eastern exotic 'Dance Of The Seven Veils'. Which is actually a serious dance ritual, not merely a sexy bedroom seduction dance many westerners think it is. It is meant c to be female seductive, bewitching but in a way that celebrates womanhood, her power to create new life etc. It is not just a lewd sexual dance to entertain bored dirty men in clubs etc. Many of these exotic dances performed by southern Eusopeans, including Greek ones tell sories and are performed as rituals at wedfings or by brides etc on their wedding night for their groom. There are some dances performed exclively by men, like warriors, brothers, going out to fight wars together. Others are done exclusively by old mothers of a young couple at their wedding, symbolising 'lighting the way to the young couple' and future generations. These traditions help keep their society together, unlike our western Anglo societies that once had such similar tradi6ions to keep the tribe together but with have been largely broken down by socially destructive influences, like feminism. Though not all these traditions were wholsome. Some degraded women or put unreasonable expectations on men. But many were harmless, hoid fun and united their community.

The poor folk love it but the middle and upper c lasses dismiss it as crap, like with our western rough rock and blues poor folks music. I love hearing the stories they tell, with a certain 'attitude' and rough Spanish gypsy accent slang.
The bata de cola frilled train on the female dancers' skirts must be made of a suitable textured fabric, not too light or too heavy it makes it impossible to do the footwork properly. The train has frills on its under side as well as the upper outer side. They are cut on the bias from many cirles, then joined together. It takes many metres of fabric and much sewing and would be a nightmare to launder and press. But I doubt the original gypsies with their itinerant lifestyle were very particular about such personal hygiene, given they were often homeless and often lived by doing crime, including stealing electricity from power poles, in more modern times, my European parents told me. And, my mother, being very superstitious told me it was best to give them some charity to avoid them putting some evil magic spe or curse on you if you refused.
