I think this is Alan Ladd's best movie, even better than "Shane". I've seen it many times, and great supporting cast especially by his son David. It's a shame Hollywood doesn't make good decent movies like this any more. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, these old classics are full holes, but they were meant to be entertainment nothing more. And they're still better than the crap out of Hollywood now.

One of the best movies of all time...I was four years old when it was made. Sadly Hollywood has changed, and not for the better.

This wonderfully heartwarming film definitely falls SOLIDLY within the realm of an *Oldie But Goodie* .....!!!!!
Olivia de Havilland is perfectly cast here, with Alan Ladd in rather Prime Form, too!!
Dean Jagger and Harry Dean Stanton filled-out the casting bill in style, with a nice John Carradine opening cameo.
Little David actually IS Alan Ladd's son in real "real life".
And of course, LANCE the brilliant sheep dog absolutely _"Stole The Show"_ .......!!!!

Over the years after seeing this film in the theater when it first came out I must have watch it 3 or 4 times on tv and RUclips. Each time I watch it the movie gets better and better. I always liked Alan Ladd's acting since the movie Shane. This film has a Excellent Cast, Story, Director and a plus of a great Jerome (The Big Country) Moross Music Score. Thank for the Excellent upload. Out.

what a story?Tho it belongs to the old order,i couldnt help the sense of humour and fatherly love Ladd displays. If all fathers could emulate this the world would be a better place to the" motherless" children

Sooooooo the boy has had a shock and cannot speak because of that... so the doctor immediately thinks it's possible to do a surgery on the poor kid? Lobotomy?

Lars Rye Jeppesen The Dr never asked the father about the shock!!! Since there's no ma around the boy probably saw her die. Probably horrific by an army person. Anyway, I like Alan Ladd. Wasn't the boy in a tv series in the 1950's?? Lassie maybe??
