  • A classic military themed arcade shoot 'em up, Twin Eagle 2: The Rescue Mission was first released to arcades in 1994.
Once again, players took control of a massive helicopter gunship fighting a military force; but this time with an urban combat theme, in stark contrast to the desert and jungle type stage themes exhibited in the previous title.
Seta took an entirely new approach to the development of Twin Eagle 2, making use of CGI graphics, coupled with faster, more immersive game play, and a far more intuitive control scheme to boot.
The lightning fast speed of the new and oversized copter does away with the sluggish and slow moving copter seen in the previous game.
Twin Eagle 2 introduced trick shots, that could be unleashed using various button sequences. For instance, pressing right, right, left + any button unleashes either a strafe maneuver or spinning attack where your copter fires in multiple directions, while pressing down, down, up + fire unleashes a 360 degree temporary shield. These special attacks coincide with a green energy bar at the top of the screen that depletes when each successive special maneuver is engaged.
Besides your copter's standard gunner and bombs, the helicopter is also armed with air-to-surface bombs that must be used to take out ground based forces, such as tanks, armored vehicles, and fixed gunners. One thing to note here is the fact that your air-to-surface bombs have no affect against airborne threats; just as your standard gunner has no affect on ground based enemies either. Fortunately, both weapons can be fired simultaneously, in effect knocking out threats from both the land and air.
players can also pick up floating parachutes that add an assortment of abilities, such as a flamethrower, extra and more powerful bomb attacks, as well as 1-ups if you manage to collect 10 golden parachutes. The parachutes are often released upon blowing up certain vehicles and objects.
While the game follows a vertical scrolling playstyle, during the boss battles you can actually fly completely around the enemy bosses, firing from any angle on the screen.
As noted before, Twin Eagle 2 follows an urban, city themed landscape, with highly destructible environments; where virtually everything an be destroyed, including massive skyscrapers.
When your character dies, your character makes the statement, "I'm hit, I'm hit, I'm coming apart!"
