Other RUclipsrs buy super cars, the bens hire a mechanic. This is the reason I keep coming back.
Yeah, it feels doable instead of a dream you try to reach for and can’t get.
👌👌👌
Exactly. I've unfollowed other accounts for only building massive collections for themselves. There is a difference in buying cars for content and buying all the cars you wanted as a kid because people watch your videos. Nothing wrong with that, but I like to support people that remember they are where they are because of God, and followers.
@@Tactical_Pterodactyl_Knivesyes, its wrong and corny.
@@Tactical_Pterodactyl_KnivesGod loves built engines & big brake kits?
Hell yeah Mark is part of the team. I was always happy to see this man working in your vid’s and to hear he was in the military as a mechanic makes more sense with the amount of knowledge he has. I was an airforce mechanic for many years so I understand that man’s passion.
Awesome job and background - thanks for serving and I bet you got a lot of invaluable knowledge. Some of the best mechanics I know were military
@@shad3128 Thanks fam. Long hours and hard work but honestly some of the best friends I made were during my service and that's relationships that stay with you for many years.
That's great dude, currently an F16 mechanic as well hoping to get out soon and work on cars and possibly my own shop.
@@denlimwolf460 was an F15 mechanic. Warheads on foreheads
Probably should have tested tires separately, they likely made the bigger difference.
Agreed. You can see the stock brakes already were powerful enough to lock up the tires (the ABS actuation that is visible). I think tit was all the tires and the bigger brake kit will improve thermals and brake feel on spirited driving and trackdays.
It was 100% the tires, the only variable that changed in this test that affects braking distance is the coefficient of friction between the car and the road.
I came to the comments to write the same thing. Especially the parts about thermal loading of larger calipers and rotors for hard street and track use. Those performance tires are not only better for handling, but are universally regarded as the cheapest “mod” one can do to improve driving performance in a car. Handling, stopping, and wet weather performance are all increased with better rubber alone.
Also should use the same brand and type of pad
I'm sure they're aware, and from the tone of the video you could tell it was all in jest
Nothing wrong with perfecting your ride, man I miss my pride and joy. It was a 1997 Subaru Impreza wagon 5 speed manual. “If it ain’t broke fix it anyway” was my attempt to restore my old Subaru summed up perfectly within a single sentence 😂. Excellent content guys keep it coming!
I personally love to see Marc on the team! He feels like the perfect person for the job, cant wait to see more of him!
quite sure that the shorter stopping distance is purely due to the tyres and not the brakes.
it's been proven that bigger brakes do not help you stop faster. it simply reduces brake fade when everything is super hot during track days.
that being said, those brakes look gooooooood!!!
Oh interesting. How do bigger brakes not help you stop faster?
@@seemyjohnbecause if you can lock up the tires stronger brakes will do exactly the same.
@@seemyjohn stock brakes on all cars are already enough to lock up the tyres. However, this doesnt happen because of traction control, so that you don't flat spot your tyres. Like ZohanLohan mentioned, if you can lock up the tyres, stronger brakes will do exactly the same.
@@seemyjohnbecause larger brakes only increase surface area and decrease heat, they do not decrease mass of the vehicle or increase grip to the road.
My mom loves Subaru.
My gay cousin loves them too😂😂
I know a bunch of lesbians that only drive outbacks.
Lesbians too
I love being in the back seat of my Subaru with your Mom. 😅
Subaru loving mom = milf
When it comes to a single stopping/slowing event, only tire compound and vehicle weight effect stopping distance. Now, if you want to stop/slow back to back to back, like a race car on a race track, upgrading calipers, rotors, pads, and brake fluids, will prevent brake fade by allowing the system to better shed heat. Calipers, rotors, pads, and brake fluids do not shorten stopping distance.
Just a tip for next time, most Subaru rotors have little holes in them that you can thread a bolt into to push them off the hub so you don't have to hit them. A radiator stay bolt threads in perfectly. Great video!
was about to say that
I 3rd this.
I fourth this!
Most rotors have this
The bolt holding the brake line clamp to the strut also fits
I would have liked to see a comparison of just upgrading the tyres and then just upgrading the brakes and then both upgrades together.
We saw that on donut didnt we 😅
Brakes do nothing, tires do something. That's all you need to know
This.
Another expert was added to G&G arsenal! Glad to see you Mark finally being part of awesome people!
for future reference mark you can put a bolt in those small holes in the rotors so it pushes the rotor off of the hub a lot faster to take off then a hammer.
We just moved into the garage. We literally had no tools. I mentioned that method but I guess it didn’t make the final cut
@@markbrylo4429 ah ok i usually just take a bolt off of the car from a random part and use that. I think most of the 10mm bolts on the car you can use regardless looking forward to the content you guys are killin it
also backing off the drums will help as well.
"Mark, here are some tips on how to do your profession"
- backyard oil changer
@@markbrylo4429short ben did mention it , just didn't specify it that it's current.
Mark is officially part of the team now! So exciting and it really makes sense. He’s been around so much recently.
Happy to see the STI again and happy to see Mark on the crew!
Really wish you had tested the tires on the stock brakes before upgrading the rotors and calipers, would have been interesting to show the incremental change
The breaking distance comes down to the tire only!
This very much.
Yep.. the brake kit made zero difference. If you can lock up the wheels then all you're left with is tire traction
@@nastystew6942not entirely, there are factors like downforce involved, but a pretty big portion of it does come down to the tire. Yes, calipers and rotors do make some difference as well, but not much for daily driving at all.
+1. People will see the thumbnail and think they need 6 piston calipers in order to not kill pedestrians. It's the tires. Ben guesses that it will be mostly the tires at 14:45 but you don't need to guess..
Good to see Mark being added to the team. Now to see a build series on his Evo X! I feel like you did the Evo X a disservice with the red widebody car build.
I'm so glad you guys hired Mark. I love his attitude and his can-do mind set. It would be nice to see you guys do some projects on his car. Not that I didn't like it the projects that you guys put in your video. Keep up the great work and the awesome videos you guys put out. It would different and fun to incorporate Mark into the road trip videos. Oh BTW, I would like to make a request and see if you guys can put a parts list together so we can get some of the parts that you guys use. Like create an Amazon store.
Enjoying Mark’s contribution already. You can tell he’s one of those guys that is never rattled.
No need to belt the rear-brake disc to get it off. Rotate the disc so that the drum-brake adjustment hole is at the bottom-dead-centre, pop out the little rubber grommit, and with a flat-bade screw-driver (keep count), rotate the adjuster so it clicks loose on the drum disc. They slide right off. Rotate the adjuster the opposite way on the other side of the car to release it (they dont release each side by the same rotational direction, pain in the backside...but it is what it is).
When you put the new discs on, make sure to adjust that drum brake adjuster tight again so that it spins with a tiny bit of resistence...then then back it off another 1-2 clicks so it runs free.
Hitting them with a hammer - totally unnecesarry, can damage your wheel bearings.
Also, the screw holes in the rotors. To screw in and push the rotors off.
Awesome hiring one of our great veterans and thank you Mark for your service.
Wow... I haven't seen a nice video like this from you guys in a long time. Great job and welcome back!
You guys speak so much to average consumers. Like seriously the best channel. Pure inspiration
I like Mark! You can still see that he's not so used to presenting haha. but he's doing so good!
I used to own a 2015 WRX, I absolutely loved the VA Chassis and I still do! Ironically I now own a 2007 Forester XT that I plan on STI swapping. I still miss that WRX and seeing Ben and his STI makes me miss it even more. Great content guys keep it up!
These early uploads feel like Saturday cartoons. Always looking forward to these videos.
I would love to see content on Mark's evo x in this channel since he is the new GNG team, PLEASE DO!!!! always love GNG old video on Mark evo x, where he said that his girlfriend look around for subaru and he only seen not very much evo on his area. Congratulation Mark for joining the team
I love that humor man, always keeps me smiling
Glad to see mark on the team and excited to see more about the new shop.
When he showed the pedestrians in the way of breaking I lost it😂😂😂 . That was some good stuff right there!
Love the content! Great to see y’all moved in up to the east side…tour of the new shop?
My dog watched this video and now he's a good dog. Thanks Gears and Gasoline!
As soon as you said TIRES and brakes, I had the biggest smile on my face. Your brake upgrade would mean nothing without a good set of tires except less brake fade. 😊
Tbh the oem brakes probably would be able to lock up those tires just as good
Yeah it's disingenuous to imply that the brakes affected the distance at all. The benefit would be for repeated braking
@@michaelbull6906 oh for sure. This is definitely overkill for a street car but I can't say anything because I have cts-v 6 piston brakes on my GTO. Just makes me feel better knowing that they are there 🤷
@@483SGT facts on facts brother. When I switched to my nitto 555 g2, my braking performance went through the roof but the stock brakes were fading hella fast so I upgraded to cts-v brakes for my GTO.
Welcome to the team, Mark!
🔥Great comparison video, I appreciate the comparative testing data to show the differences in the 6 piston vs 4 piston brake set up. I need these on my 2022 WRX.
Glad to see Mark on board!
Welcome to the team Mark!
I have BBK on my 228i and I have these exact type of rotors and calipers (big break kit). I couldn't be happier.
The tires provided like 90 % of the decrease
Those brakes are just bling
Okay, lowkey im in love right now.
@2:47... Ive done this exact thing each mod with tires, brake pads and rotors on my STI.
Had the cops called numerous times, and they see what im testing and literally JOIN IN!
I SWEAR IF I WASNT A DUNCE AT VIDEO EDITING AND CAMERA THIS VIDEO WOULD HAVE BEEN already done.....
Ugh i need to step up my game 😅
For my WRX, I keep a set of snow tires on the stock rims and a set of summer tires on "good" rims. That makes it easy for me to swap sets when the season changes without having to pay for mounting/balancing each time.
Long wait is over, another video from gears and gasoline 🔥
Video quality is great as always
Mark is very sympatic and kind, i like to watch him working on the car
Love it. Subie stopping power. Silver gray color looks nice. Rotors cross drilled look great. Love the changes.
Amazing build! I love your STI!
Love the Subaru. It’s so clean! Also, the jump still image was amazing.
New shop? Do tell! Nice to see it's all official for Mark!
Should have replicated the gran turismo license test lol great episode man!
Another great episode of G and G!
Love this channel. The only channel that makes me hope for a honda fit video
Lifesaving Modifications...
Now that is a term we need!!
Yep I had the same issue with my calipers coming off. Snapped a couple bolts too.
Mark is the new Mr. Mechanic, so skilled and so so calm and cool.
Mark is a good addition lol, already like him. Congrats mark!
Mark is a fantastic addition to the channel.
ugh, I love these STI vids 😊
I'm happy to hear the fantastic EJ sound again. What an experience is hearing that sound! 👏Subaru should bring it back since all the other cars that would provide an excellent driving experience are not being produced in enough numbers, i.e. Toyota GR86. I'll buy another STI if it sounds like the 2018 I had.
you guys are really awesome. you make story off upgrade brake and tire not single minute were boring... really- really love it! Fans from Malaysia.
I love this car so much been following ever since you started modifying it... What's funny it's this is like a lambo in my country... Love your channel can't imagine this on the Kenyan streets dreans😢
It's great how you guys turn a simple thing into a masterpiece of a video.
Why I went EBC pads and rotors plus Michelin PSAS4. It's a great upgrade over stock, didn't require changing calipers.
I love the upgrades. I wish that you had tested the difference with just the tire too. And be careful when temps are below 50F on those summer tires as they don't like colder temps. You might want to use the DWS 06+ tires for the winter months as they will grip better in the colder temps. And I like the sleeper/stock look so I hope you aren't going to go too crazy with the visual mods. I've done a lot of work to my 2009 Corolla S Turbo 5MT but I like the sleeper look. If criminals and police don't notice me it's that's much better in my book.
Wow never knew you had a corgi also, she shedding is the worst! But I love mine. He likes going for rides in my Sti hatch
I love that you included the door locking while you washed the door handle, to me is such an STi thing even though I'm sure other faubed(?) cars do it.
I THOUROUGHLY ENJOYED THAT TIRE SNATCH LOL
Sidenote: I love the cleanliness of the car and the simplicity of it despite what's under the hood.
Tires did all the work here those brakes are no better than stock in a street application. Rubber compound matter so so much more.
Exactly. Pretty much all brakes have the power to lock up the tires. The work is done in the traction of the tires. Brake upgrades only really help if the brakes had air in the lines (which could have been fixed by just bleeding the brakes) or if you are doing enough hard stops to overheat the brakes.
Mark is indeed the goat. Also props on the many lives saved.
The Conti DWS 06 Plus tires are some of the best bang for the buck. Have them on both my Subis! I am a little surprised your stopping distances were so long in them. I was expecting around 90 feet.
Either way, both results are WAY better than the often published 245 feet ... it's like they haven't realized tires and brakes have improved.
Last video I commented "You guys deserve a bigger shop", well dang that was quick.
I like Mark. No drama. Good hire.
The silver calipers look amazing with the white and gold!!!
Welcome Mark!
love the freeze frame jump
You can also add that you'll be able to brake like that harder and longer. They will disapate heat better with the larger rotor.
Nice vid/upgrades. It would've been interesting to see a second test with the tire swap, and then the final test with the tires+BBK upgrade. Keep the content coming though.
Yes sir !!!! Mark is great!!! Also, will you get a short throw shifter? I drove a friends subi and I hated how much play his shifter had
Love the vid, and I love this car. I'm saving up for this
he overheated his brakes in the mountains and said lets upgrade to not hit pedestrians haha love this channel keep it up
That Sailor is cool, calm and collective!
A tip. You 2 bolts to thread into the rotors to push them off the spindle.
Nice to see Mark on the team! Get him some gloves mannnnn
Welcome Mark❤🎉
Nice garage Ben :)
Cracking up at 16:10, great video lol
I would love to meet you guys sometime and see the builds! I live in the same area! I need more car enthusiasts to be around im basicaly alone 😂😅
After you got some temperature in the brakes, the tires started to shine! Nonethenless, you can not expect that on a regular street drive, your brakes will always be up to temp after a few hard stops.
love to see mark in the team dude seems really chill
Aye glad you finally found a set! Hopefully didn't get shafted on the price lol When I put them on my 05 STI I didn't notice a single bit of difference in braking or feel, they just looked way cooler! But I definitely noticed much lower rotor and caliper temps after a lot of backroad driving!
There are these super cool thread files that are square and have 2 ends with a blank in the middle allowing for 8 thread pitches and can be clutch in these situations. Even if just to clean the first thread to get it into the die straight.
I really like the stock look
Aww your corgi looks almost just like my lil Sophie!
I just put dws 06+ on my ralliart! Excellent choice we made
love the DWS 06
Conti ECS is such a good tire. Basically a cheaper but equally as good PSS
For future reference if you put the head of the bolt in a vice. Then a electric grinder with a brass wire wheel will make that aluminum disappear with ease. Also works great for rusty bolts that need to be reused. CHEERS 🥂
I run Falken Azenis RT615K+ on my Forester. On a warm summer day you can hear the rubber sticking to the pavement.
Black calipers looked super nice
You guys should look into TSSFAB suspension parts, next level stuff
For those who want to upgrade to the 6 pots on your Subaru. They'll fit the WRX/STI 08-21 as well, you'll need to get the bolts for the calipers as they have a different thread pitch and trim the dust shield or buy the right dust shield.
Hah, best justification for mods I have ever heard. I shall continue my builds vicariously!
