What you call the "split-s landing", I call Thoor landing, as I believe (while admittedly not knowing) that it was a pilot name Alf Ingesson-Thoor who "invented it".
Of course, he performed in a Saab Safir. A very nice aircraft, but not a high performance fighter jet...
First time I saw it (with the appropriate accompanying thought: wtf!) was in 1992 at an airshow (F18 in Sweden), which also had the Blue Angels visiting.
    As he did it then:
Flying downwind over the runway at 20 m(?) (60 feet).
Pulling up, gaining hight, and then rolling over inverted.
Pulling the stick, going nose down and through to level, and at the same time lowering the gear (helped by the manouver).
TIming the manouver to end up on "a short final" with gear and flaps configured. Touch down.
He did it as seemlessly as only long experience and practice will make it. Amazing pilot.
