It was difficult for me to address this question in such a short duration. It would take me at least an hour to address such complex issues properly. So I guess a short one will do for now. I don't know if the guy who wrote the email will ever read this comment but I do understand where he is coming from. I'm not a yogi but I have a longing for the spiritual and have meditated from a young age. I even experienced a mystical experience where I touched some other dimension of myself and dissolved into light and sound when I was 16. It was unexpected, I wasn't even doing anything amazing when it happened - I was praying for a friend. Anyway it didn't help ward off the many things that went wrong in my life 2 decades later. I got angry with God many times and left meditation etc thinking perhaps it was causing all these things to happen. Anyway, I have been on the brink of suicide many times. Once I made up my mind I was going to end it all and it was a firm decision and a definite time was chosen- I was saved on that day and that time but that was miraculous too. A friend who lived so far away - a five hour drive away suddenly knocked on my door! It was then I realized that there is something that wants me here. Anyway that was many years ago. Now my life is still something I can't figure out. It still is in many ways without any success in anyway (that is a matter of perspective - my life has many good things in it but objectively and comparatively, it isn't every successful) . HOWEVER, I want you to know that you will never be able to see the whole picture while you are in this negative mindset. It's really not that your life is broken. You think it is. Meditation etc is not to make your life comfortable - the effects are at a deeper level your surface mind cannot perceive. The mind is like a box, it has parameters and everything you think is within those parameters. Your thinking is clouded. Isolation is not good because it cuts off the mind from new ideas. With respect, sometimes we listen to gurus and spiritual teachers and get guilt or the idea that we are inferior unworthy creatures but you need to realize you cannot understand the real meaning of their words until you can open your boxed up mind. You will interpret their words and that is also dangerous. So after this long speech, here is my practical wisdom : For now, don't worry about progress. Do the spiritual work just to calm the mind and expand it. You know you can feed the mind new ideas? You can tell it things. It's so pliable and so objective, whether you're right or wrong it will just believe you... So start small and start telling yourself you are OK everyday. Start saying nice things to yourself. Pray to the divine mother and listen to Paramahansa Yogananda on youtube - since you are feeling low, Yognanada is like a comforting encouraging friend. There really is no solution except to realize the mind lies. Spiritual process is sometimes misunderstood - people think it's adding to you but actually it's a removal process. You must remove all the false beliefs and the truth is revealed. How fast you progress depends on how sincerely and how quickly you let go and unravel all the nonsense you believe. Don't get the wrong end of the stick and think life is against you. It's not. Life is the most neutral thing in the world - it responds to what is inside. Whether you suffer or not depends on your mind. Accept we all must experience the contrast of good and bad. It can't all be good because we're not heaven. So start working on the mind first, calm it down, see where it is lying to you and take it from there. Sadhguru speaks so much truth but we can't understand it from our level. Let go off the nonsense and if you don't know how, be practical, decide to replace the negative thoughts with positive ones. Deny the misery and affirm that life is a gift for you and you are forever guided and loved by the Divine mother. Comfort yourself constantly. It seems counter intuitive and egotistical but the issue is your feelings and your feelings are negative so start by changing the thoughts that create those feelings and take it one step at a time. Do what works to stay alive another day and another day and another day. Sorry if I also went on rambling...I also freestyled this comment 😅 Wishing you the best friend! Edit - I forgot the most important lesson I learned - the outer world as you experience it is a projection of your dominant thoughts and feelings. That is the whole key to life. You must realize your power and what you are creating. You create the misery and you have the power to change it into bliss. So what are your dominant thoughts? Work on cultivating more positive ones and watch the magic unfolding as your situation changes.
Just as I opened RUclips not entirely sure what I was looking for, your video was recommended to me and I played it without thought. The aspect of allowing yourself to be broken and then rebuilding is not new to me - in fact, I tell the same to near and dear ones when I see them in deep anguish. But often, we forget to apply the same to ourselves when we're going through something. So thank you Dharmitra, for making these videos. Your simple, playful way of explaining such queries really resonates and I'm further grateful that I also get to call you my friend. Keep doing the good work - it's truly incredible.
Can vouch that the tasks in the assignment works. I do them from time to time and they always make me feel good afterward. As Sadhguru says, "If you do sadhana without love in your heart, all you'll get is an inflated ego".
if you have love what is sadhana for? There are ways of sadhguru telling for some people on whom yoga doesnt work, and this is one sweeping statement for that purpose
Your reply was brimming with compassion. Truth reflecting through your words. With so much simplicity you have put across the meaning of spirituality. It really touched my heart🌻🪷🪻🙏
I do Shambhavi because I am happier then I was before I started this daily practice. If something more eventually happens, so be it (i dont expect anything more). I wake up at 4am to do Surya and Shambhavi because it gives me a sense of strong will, value and discipline that I didn't experience or understand before these practices.
Most of us don't have an existential crisis, but some have it. From those who have it, some are fortunate to grow, like Yogi Pod guy, and some weak people like me, get more entangled and miserable. I have a sort of death impression where it feels so scary that all of this will end, all the pleasant people will leave you, the relationships seems so permanent and real, but pff just a second and it's all gone like you don't even get a chance to say Goodbye, and u can't revisit again after a long departure.. I envy the life of people who don't get such thoughts and live like immortals like no sense of death. I wish I could have been among the lucky majority..
I do it with out expectations and always see how can I make someone else happy or see how can do the things which are opposite to my likes and dislikes joyfully. However, I want to taste the divine, i want to feel the energy the chakras. I want to know what the hell is up with me. Why am i being in a roller coaster when i perform such actions (doing something which is not with regard of me) I feel there are so many things which are in me but its not getting at solutions or atleast a settlement or something with which I can accpet on.
