    Enthusiastic thumb release style archery practitioner and owner of several Alibow products from China here. I read that, historically, the Kaiyuan came about during the Ming dynasty as the Chinese traditional long-tip model adopted some features from the west Asian design (Kaiyuan was firstly the name given to a north-west geo-political division back in the Yuan dynasty), and it was commonly used by the frontier force in their battles with the Jurchen as it allows longer draw length and, thus heavier arrows containing enough power for armour piercing. The article confirms that the nock was designed for collecting arrows from the horse back. Jolly good video and, might be to your surprise, you are much more famous here than you would expect. Looking forward to your trip to China in the future. Best regards!

    Just thought I'd let you know, I have had the AliBow Kaiyuan II for about a month now... and the Kaiyuan II is an incredible bow, plenty fast and very smooth... but just as importantly it can shoot with incredible accuracy and precision! I am super happy that you made this review, without it I would have never found AliBow and this bow in particular! Thank you for being such a reliable reviewer.
    This bow has shot so well, and taught me so much, that I have had to come up with a new archery game: shooting nerf darts off of my old broken arrow shafts with this bow at 16-20 meters! I was hitting tennis balls every time so I figured it was time to up the difficulty... started stuffing the dart on top of the nock or just the broken shaft end, depending on what's laying around.
    So far I've shot through several old arrow shafts, I touch the dart or the shaft about 5/10 shots and I nail it about once every 20 shots it seems like... but the shots are always within an inch of the dart and that's just day 1 of this personal challenge for myself! Eventually I want to be able to cut the darts down to an inch in length and hit that every time... one can only dream lol :P
    I'll have to figure out how to tag you in a video of this, I have seriously been very very surprised at how good this bow is. I can shoot as well with this bow as I do with my customized Bodnik Slick Stick, and that thing is scary accurate!

    I am discovering something very substantially significant for an intermediate archer, or any archer for that matter. That is, you can have two bows that are basically the same, or very similar, and one bow will shoot great for you but the other will not. This has now happened to me with two Samick Sages, two Rolan Snake bows, and two Alibows. Admittedly, one of the Alibows was the fiberglass horse bow and the other was the fiberglass Tatar bow. Anyway, I don't remember hearing/seeing anyone talk about this, but I think it is important for newish archers to be aware of and understand. Subtle differences in the same or similar model bows can make a substantial difference in performance, so I guess one shouldn't discount one model of bow until they have tried a couple examples of it, if possible. My Alibow horse bow is inconsistent, but the Tatar is very consistent, and it doesn't pinch my fingers when shooting Mediterranean like the shorter horse bow. Thx.

    Amazing bow! Maybe I get one some day, or some other from Alibow. But for now, I'm a completly begginer. Brazil currency rate and tax are a joke and the shipping takes forever, and then, more time here locked in the customs. My Tatar from AF still not arrived. Great video!

    Thank you for demonstrating this beautiful bow! I've found this video just now for the first time. I went to look for it on the Alibow website, and the only one I saw is described as having a 33" draw. Could this be the same bow, or is having a 36" draw length be available as a custom order?

  • @StefanHausmann
    @StefanHausmann 7 лет назад +1

    I just got word from Alibow stating that due to problems they do not produce this bow in 36" length any more. They offered me a modified Dunhuang instead. Since you have shot both bows, what's your take? Fair exchange? You seem more enthusiastic about the Kaiyuan in the videos?

    • @ArminHirmer
      @ArminHirmer  7 лет назад +1

      yes unfortunately they don't build this bow anymore.... Dunhuang is amazing, draws even smoother. I was enthusiastic because the Kaiyuan was the first bow from Alibow with 36" draw, which I liked a lot, as I only shot mariners Qing Dragon 2 before with 36". The Dunhuang is still a very good option

    • @StefanHausmann
      @StefanHausmann 7 лет назад

      Since it is not in your videos I guess you haven't had the opportunity to test the Kayjuan from Mariner yet?
      By now I have my eyes on one of three bows:
      Alibow Dunhuang or Mariner Quing Dragon - with the Ming Moon as a faster and easier to handle alternative to the latter.
      What I am looking for is a bow that feels distinctly 'Chinese' - in contrast to Korean and (my) other Horse Bows.
      And it has to have 35"+ draw length - I already destroyed a Korean bow with my long draw and I want to stay on the safe side.
      Any advice?

    The bow looks greate!
    But you don't draw it to 35 or 36 inches. Just to 32, may be 32.5 inches (If arrow really 36"). And of course you can shoot 36 inches arrow using any bow ;)

    I agree with you regarding the ferrari but in our club no one knows tio use the thumb ring and pulling the bow to 36 inches behind the head cannot maintain a consistent anchor point isnt that so
    ?

    • @ArminHirmer
      @ArminHirmer  8 лет назад +2

      there is no anchor point so to say. When the tip of the arrow reaches your index - you reach fun draw. usually you will feel the string touching your chest. everything is amazingly aligned in this way :)

    Hi Armin, great video. I think all of your videos are. Looking at Ali Bow's website I see the Ming Kaiyuan Fiberglass bow. Is this the one you tested in this video? Also just wondering what you would sugguest... My wife a beginner has 24" drawlength and would need 25lbs draw weight. Looking to stay under $130. Thanks and please keep reviewing bow's - you're doing an awesome job. :)

    • @ArminHirmer
      @ArminHirmer  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Malvin. Thank you. The one in the video is the laminated one. But for your wife as a starter bow, the fibreglass will do a good job (never shot this one, but other fibreglass ones from Alibow). Take a 30#@28", that should be fine for her. Have fun!

    • @meljon777

      Hi Armin, Hi,
      I have ordered the Ming Kaiyuan for my wife and can't wait to test it out. I have a draw-length of 29" and have been shooting compound bow at 60 lbs draw-weight for a while. I would like to get myself something similar to the Ming Kaiyuan bow but not sure which one. I just don't want to get two of the same one LOL ;) I am thinking about any of the other fiberglass bows from Alibow, maybe the Turkish bow. What is your recommendation? Speed, accuracy and no shock (vibration) is important and would like to be able to shoot with thumb release and 3 finger. Thanks again.

    • @ArminHirmer
      @ArminHirmer  8 лет назад +2

      it really depends what you want to shoot, which style of bow first of all. From turkish to chinese, crim tatar to hungarian/mongolian - all great for horseback. It is more related to your shooting technique - and draw length.

      I'm not Armin, obviously, but I own the AliBow Kaiyuan II in 45 lb @ 28" and the AF Turkish in 50 lb @ 28". Pound for pound the performance is almost identical. The AliBow has a nicer finish, maybe a few FPS slower since it's a little longer, but it's even easier to be consistent. I got it because of this review and it's a fantastic bow. I've run speed tests on both with a 387 grain arrow: Kaiyuan II @ 45 lbs shoots around 175-180 FPS with mediterranean release, AF Turkish @ 50 lbs shoots about 185-190 (both @ 28"); at 31" the Kaiyuan II shoots about 190, AF Turkish shoots about 200.
      The AF Turkish is a very good bow for the price, honestly... I don't think you can beat the value, and it's one of my two favorites (the Kaiyuan II being the other right now).
      I have my eye on the Jackal Assyrian, which just got reviewed 2 days ago. It looks absolutely amazing, wouldn't complain about having that in my collection as well. I love these traditional recurves, they all seem to use such similar techniques that I can just pick them up and shoot well, no need to get used to a different bow like I have to do with my more modern bows. I always seem to shoot these better than I shoot my more modern bows.
