I laughed so hard at Anthony's Frank Spencer impersonation. A subtle nod to Michael Crawford, the original Phantom of the opera....and it went straight over your head. Bless.
I swear- there’s a longer version of this song where John chucks in a few references to Sadie the cleaning lady which Anthony backs up with a lengthier impersonation of frank Spencer… but I can’t find it anywhere- i think it was probably a rehearsal tape which is probably an extra on the DVD I haven’t watched in 15 years 🤣 they take like double the time to get through Granada… I do know there is a spot in the actual concert before this part where Anthony sings Sadie as frank Spencer to make even a bet Sadly I think Nick may have missed the frank Spencer reference as Michael Crawford may not have been well know for that character in America (yes he was known for phantom)
Ahh, "The Main Event" was a show. They're all Aussie. Olivia is Aussie Pop Royalty, Farnham is Aussie Rock Royalty, and Warlow was Broadway Royalty. Having them all on stage was something unique.
@@FarmWeigh She was born in the UK, as was John but if you'd asked her, she would have said she was Australian. Indeed she was an Australian citizen, as is John. She moved here when she was six years old.
Anthony Warlow is opera trained and has performed in many musical theatre productions. Please check out the song on this concert called, "This Is The Moment". It is dramatic and riveting. Australians have a great sense of humour and love to muck around with it as the two have done on stage. John Farnham is a funny guy and always jokes around in his concerts.
Omg, Anthony Warlow. I was a Farnham fan when I first watched this as it aired in Australia . Then Warlow inspired me to sing. Checkout anything, literally anything from Warlow. He is flawless.
I thought that John's voice in Gethsemane was incredible, but this performance is pretty mind-blowing too! He really is one of the best singers of the last 50 years - and a pretty good comedian too 😀
Anthony Warlow started in opera, then transitioned to musical theatre via Gilbert & Sullivan. His rendition of Enjolras from Le Mis got him picked for the international cast recording.
My two favourites! I’d pay to hear Anthony Warlow whistle. I’ve seen him perform live MANY times and he moves me to tears. He’s another one of Australia’s great talents, he’s a national treasure. We’re going to send you requests for Anthony Warlow, he’ll blow your mind. I’ve sent a request via Instagram, you need to react to John Farnham singing Playing To Win. That one’s a high energy performance. Once again I enjoyed your reaction. This was thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyable 😊
I knew Anthony was great but never went to see him live, I wasn’t interested in Phantom, what a dill I was lol. Gave mum a lend of my Main Event DVD, mum said, we have to see Anthony live. First time was a luncheon and CD signing in the city, Melbourne. Anthony chatted, answered questions, laughed, it was wonderful. If u bought his new CD he’d sign it and if u bought your camera you could have your pic taken with him, so in I’m standing next to Anthony and I had my hand on his shoulder lol. Didn’t realise until I saw it. Mum said to him when he had a sip of water. “That’d be Melbourne water”as he’d said in Main Event. Anthony smiled and said to mum, “Looks like you’ve watched the DVD a few times” lol. Next mum and I went to see Anthony play Daddy Warbucks live in Annie, of course he was absolutely brilliant. I bet you saw him in Phantom Of the Opera - bet he was awesome.
Seriously John could sing the yellow pages and make it sound incredible, he borders on Tenor, and mate your appreciation and knowledge of music is meritorious honestly
Anthony Warlow was Australia's first Phantom. He was forced to give up the part because he discovered he had cancer. It was said that he had private messages from all the other people who played the Phantom as well as a message from the writer. Thankfully he was able to beat the cancer and retain his wonderful voice.
It’s Anthony warlow and he was incredible he had cancer many yrs ago. He could perform for some yrs so his come back was even more special . Xoxo Anthony did theatre ,he was the phantom in phantom of the opera and everyone that had the chance to see him perform and I was lucky enough . Anthony Warlow was The Phantom in the Australian production of Phantom of the Opera for several years. Was lucky enough to see it. Anthony was brilliant as was the rest of the cast.
I was at this fantastic concert. You can see the size of the audience. There were thousands there. Olivia was the third star of the show. They clowned around but also there were some beautiful moving moments and magnificent singing. Anthony originally studied Opera but went on to become a huge star of Australian musical theatre and also Broadway. I hope you get to hear more of Anthony singing. "Anthem" and" Bring him home" are 2 of my favorites.
I may be recalling incorrectly, but I believe this concert 'The Main Event', was produced not long after both Olivia Newton-John and Anthony Warlow had recovered from cancer. It was like their comeback celebration. I missed seeing it live, sadly.
Anthony Warlow is known around the world as the man in opera. He did Phantom, Les Mis, you name it in his time. I was lucky to see him as the Phantom and he chewed the scenery up! Great reaction!! 👍
Oh I am so glad you reacted to this as you see how amazingly versatile John is and get to hear Anthony sing. I was so blessed to see Anthony perform as the phantom in “Phantom of the Opera”, he blew me away and it is a special moment in my life. Brilliant reaction as always. Step Aside Dimash - Warlow has spectacular long belts too. We all know Farnsie can sing anything - but you're right. A sit up straight moment in the midst of a great talent duo & great fun to realise in another life -John could have had a whole other career as a Classical Tenor. Mind you.. Glad he didn't or we wouldn't have all the great songs we know & love - back then & still today. Also, yet another great example that you can only relax & 'take the piss' outta yourself & your performance when you are TOTALLY on top of your game - as these two vocal masters are :)
This was one of my favourite highlights of The Main Event tour with John, Anthony and Olivia. So much fun and the vocals were brilliant! I attended 3 shows. 😊
So fantastic to see the two of our Aussie legends because iv not seen most of these myself .Much appreciated.Great fun .Anthony was phantom in Phantom of the opera.
I have this on a video. the entire show. They both love to goof around and had the audience in stitches....but still show their amazing voices...and Yes John is a very funny guy. May I say with a typical Aussie humor. The Main Event was sold out in every state. John Farnham, Olivia Newton John and Anthony Warlow. Each did their own solos and then each had a duet. I think you've already done the one with Olivia & John "Please don't ask Me"
Coming back to watch this, Anthony and Olivia were fresh into remission for cancer when John called them to organise this concert and get them back out there performing. But now we have lost Olivia after her relapse, Anthony i believe is perfectly healthy, and now it is John that is recovering from cancer.
I was in the audience and, while I had seen Anthony in musical theatre a number of times, I was not aware of his comedic talent. The opposite was the case with John Farnham - I had no idea he had such depth of talent in this type of singing. It was indeed a magical performance.
Thanks for bringing up great memories with our AMAZING Aussie talent. Makes me want to watch these concerts all over again. I do glad people are really starting to appreciate our talented artists that we grew up with. Can't wait to watch more memories with what you find next!! xxx
At one point John mimics Frank Spencer, a character made famous by Michael Crawford. Michael Crawford became the first Phantom of the Opera and had a successful musical career. He is worth listening to.
Saw these guys doing this concert "The Main Event" live! Best concert I've been to over all the years. John was great live and Anthony is one of Australias best opera/light opera singers. So talented.
Hi I’m an Aussie and love your reviews, ty they r great. I know how much u appreciate John’s talent and other Aussie artists but I thought u might like John’s version of Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” it’s awesome. Ty again
Oh gosh. My primary school principle is one of Anthony Warlows sisters, he used to come and stage our end of year concerts. Quite amazing to see him here
I play John Farnham's songs over and over. John is very unique, a true blue Aussie, a gentleman and possesses a child like delight in singing , he connects with his adoring crowds. I didn't see any of his concerts but I would have given just about anything to have been in the audiences. The next best thing is watching him on RUclips.
John has done stage theatre, having acted in several musicals. From the 50's through the 70's and 80's, many Australian artists have honed their art in theatre; whether they are in film, television or singing, they have all paid their dues. This performance was from The Main Event concert with John Farnham, Olivia Newton John and Anthony Warlow.
Warlow is a Legend of Operatic Theatre and was the lead in the Phantom of the Opera live musical, and a dozen other amazing live shows. A completely different genre and background to John Farnham.
John is just so brilliant. He's not an opera singer he just does this stuff for fun haha as you do. I wish he'd done more musicals but at least we got to see some of his incredible talent in Jesus Christ Superstar. His voice gives me chills!
Anthony Warlow, Olivia Newton-John and John Farnham all performed together at the Main Event Concert in 1996 and 1998 respectively, from where the above performance came.
If I remember correctly, the two of them were set to open a massive stadium style production of Jesus Christ Superstar in Australia, when Warlow was diagnosed with his lymphoma weeks before it opened. They prepared the show together, which is likely why they work so well, despite being in seemingly opposite genre's.
saw this live in concert! Whole show was fantastic! Warlow is an operatic sensation here and a great comedian as well. John is John!!!! I did pay to see them and I would again and again
Omg you didn’t do this! Omg! My two heros and this performance means the world to me! Also yes Anthony has Broadway tone. He is both Aussie opera and musical theatre royalty. John Farnham is also precious and should be adored by all. Please tell me you know Marina Prior though! You’re obviously a man with a gorgeous operatic voice! Please tell me you know Marina Prior!
I have just started watching you today and John Farnham is one of my favourite Australian artists (I grew up with him. He revitalised his career when I was about 10). You really need to see Burn For You (he wrote that for his wife) and One is of my favourites of his.
Hi there have you heard " listen to the wind expo 88 John farnham, brilliant, sorry I can't send you anything just at this time I'm struggling with life but love your reactions they keep me smiling cos I love music, I watch you every night so thank you and God bless
Anthony Warlow is the Aussie version of Michael Crawford. He did years as The Phantom of the Opera but had to step back due to cancer. He also does the most amazing Freddy Spencer as does Michael Crawford.
Okay blown away what a voice Anthony and Mr Farnham well what can we say but bow down to the GOAT only thing i haven't seen John do is Country but i'm sure he could pull that off too.
I went to that show it was called the main even with as well as Olivia Newton John not long after Oliver went in to remission from cancer (she has now past on). It was the best concert I ever went to the 3 of them in one epic long concert. It was magic.
Anthony Warlow was the original Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde in the original Broadway musical cast. 'This is the moment' is a huge song from the original score.
Johnny or The Voice as he is known amongst us Aussie’s, is the all round Australian performer and good guy. Always pleasant, funny, entertaining and devoted.
John is such an amazing talent. Anthony warlow is a trained opera singer but John, being so versatile can hold his own during this operatic duo. John’s voice is amazing, such agility and Anthony Warlow is such a great opera singer, such a great performance all round.
I can't stop laughing watching your reaction to this incredible comedy opera with our John and Anthony, Nick. This whole concert with Olivia Newton-John was just the best. Watching John doing You're the One That I Want from Grease with Olivia is the absolute best thing to witness for this comedy musical genre 😍😍
I believe this is from The Main Event Concert in 1998 when John was aged 49. So funny the rhetoric between them. There's a lot more in the medley they sing.
Glad you like Anthony- he s a great guy. Another Farnham performance you mght like to see is him performin East Timor for the troops: you'll never walk alone - ruclips.net/video/tEyg1dIcqCE/видео.html
You said John Farnham should have his own comedy show. Well back in the late 60's he did. He played a plumber, I do believe. It's been along time since I've seen it and that's how his song Sady The Cleaning Lady was born.
Anthony Warlow does a lot of musicals - most known for Phantom of the Opera - and I will literally go to any show he is in. I do not care what it is, I will sit through anything. The musical of Dr Zhivago was actually written for him specifically but they never released a full Australian cast recording. There's a couple of tracks that were released on RUclips as promos for the show and I hold them in my heart forever.
Did you notice Anthony's quick imitation of actor Michael Crawford 's character Frank Spencer from the English sitcom 'Some Mothers Do Have 'Em' when he said the the audience 'Haven't Got a towel have ya'? (Michael Crawford as it turned out, also had a great operatis voice when he starred in Phantom Of The Opera').
I laughed so hard at Anthony's Frank Spencer impersonation. A subtle nod to Michael Crawford, the original Phantom of the opera....and it went straight over your head. Bless.
I was cacking myself over the Frank Spencer bit ha ha
@@nicolaj3294 he did it so well. I went back and watched a few some mothers do ave em clips afterwards. A classic

Anthony Warlow is also Aussie Musical Theatre Royalty.

This man can sing anything, with anyone...a true performer, his humour is as impressive as his singing..
This is from a tour they did years ago with Olivia Newton John...Anthony is theatre royalty
John’s white handkerchief at the end is referencing the late, great Luciano Pavarotti, who always performed with one. John is a natural joker.

Check this one out Tazzie... ruclips.net/video/vGmpR8bT4mE/видео.html
@@JoSedunary Thanks for that he does it all then. I guess Hip Hop is out of the question :-)
@@TazzzieAdventures Hahaha I wouldn't put it past him... and it would be hilarious - who knows what's out there :)
Now listen to John and Andrew and Olivia sing the voice it's brilliant from same concert
I love your reactions …you are the best in the business ❤️
I went to that show it was called the main even with as well as Olivia Newton John not long after Oliver went in to remission from cancer (she has now past on). It was the best concert I ever went to the 3 of them in one epic long concert. It was magic.
Anthony Warlow was the original Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde in the original Broadway musical cast. 'This is the moment' is a huge song from the original score.
Anthony Warlow is classically trained, and has appeared in operas and stage plays; plus John has also done musical theatre.
Absolutely Awesome Aussie talent!!!!!!
I totally forgot about Anthony Warlow until this video.. he was very big here in the 90s.. my mum loved him.
Ah yes, Granada from the Main Event Tour, removing any doubt that John can pull off an Aria/Operatic piece when called out
Anthony and John are both great showmen on stage. That is why live is better. I love John waving his white flag at the end.
Johnny or The Voice as he is known amongst us Aussie’s, is the all round Australian performer and good guy. Always pleasant, funny, entertaining and devoted.
Anthony played the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera one of our best singers in Australia
The aussie way.. no matter how great someone may be.. cant take ourselves too seriously. Keeps us grounded
Saw this live. Was amazing.
I have to get myself a copy of this. When I get mine I’ll get 2 and send you one Nick 🤟🏻😁👍🏻
Saw this concert was just amazing. Anthony was Frank Spencer in Some Mothers do have them. John is very funny and real. Both Superstars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
He was the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera
Wow, the power… !!!
Wonderful watched many times and enjoy more each time
Anthony Warlow performed in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
Great opera singer from phantom of the Opera!!!!!
Anthony Warlow must watch as The Phantom of the Opera. Saw this concert live and was bloody funny. They had fun.
Anthony was the original phantom from phantom of the opera
