- This is the Ibanez SRC6 bass vi. A hybrid bass/guitar : a short scale (30") with 6 strings, spaced like guitar strings a tuned like a guitar. simple.
Played through an Orange rocker 15 terror with an SM57 in front of it

I got one nearly a year ago, I use it as a baritone. I use 13-62s with it in A standard. It stands up as an amazing replacement for guitar for Doom/sludge with the more bass oriented pickups reacting really nicely to loads of fuzz
I bought this guitar to substitute 8 string but I really loved as a short scale bass and I constantly played it very comfortable. This guitar made me to love bass guitar, recently I bought 7 string bass:)
i was about to say a similar thing, tune it like the bottom of an 8, you got a monster guitar, bet those pickups are gnarly too!
I have an Ibanez SRC6 Crossover. I drilled out the first three low string ferrules and pathways so that I could put heavier gauge bass strings on it. I use it as a bass guitar, tuned low B to high C. It sounds great and is so easy to play and get around on.
I really… REALLY wish Ibanez would start producing these again.
Wish granted
This aged well
@@zqri DIDN’T IT THO
@@zqri now I just gotta find someone willing to sell their stock, non-multiscale one after getting the MS.
@@jefgirdler7232 What's wrong with the multiscale one?
When using it as a guitar with high gain, cutting the bass with the preamp REALLY helps clear things up and help it fit into a mix.
I bought a SRC6 once and it was a pretty cool instrument. I ended up returning it because it just wasn't quite for me (I ended up getting a 5-string bass instead), but I still think this SRC6 is incredibly cool and unique. Very well made. The neck is chunky a f. A nice piece of wood.
Really really enjoyed this review. Especially since you started it by saying you were going to sell it, then played more and more and decided to keep it. I hope you still have it. This one seems to be a classic keeper. (2023) Can only find 2 available for sale in "good" condition and both are asking more than what a brand new Multi-scale version costs. Others have made the point about only playing partial cords to avoid the muddyness. For that reason I'm going to settle for a new MS version. Cheers.
Great video mate! Sounded really nice!. Like you say, it's in an odd territory but cool none the less haha.
This would be dope as fuck as an addition on an acoustic track. It's got such a great sound to it and gets a lot less muddy when you crank the bass knob down
thorough review.
thanks, sir.
this kind of instrument really lends itself to simplicity. have you had any hardware or electrical problems?
I'm totally getting the new multiscale version thats about to release. SR Crossover Multi Scale SRC6MS.
Ibanez recently unveiled at the NAMN show that the SRC6 will be back for 2023!
I have 2 of these, a 2014 (First year of production) and a 2020 (Last year of production) Put Tosin Abasi pickups in one of them for use as my primary baritone and the other is stock as my Bass VI, I can't see me ever letting either go.
I've got two of them as well. I bought them on the second hand market, because I won't become friends with the new multiscale version. To my eyes it looks awkward, while the original SRC6 looks and feels like a timeless classic.
These aren't meant to be played like a regular guitar which is why it sounds like crap here... It's ability to match your guitar's tuning one octave down allows you to create bass lines from songs created on your guitar without changing your playing to bass mode... 💥
i think you could get chords to sound really nice with soft flamenco strumming and the right tone
It look like old Ibanez artfield guitar from the 80's.. I had in the 90's and I'm still so sad to have sell it. It was so ama3
I love mine
I REALLY want to get this guitar. It just hits me the right way…but you can’t get it anywhere now! Did they discontinued it?
They’re discontinued but come up occasionally. I have considered selling it but it is the only baritone I’ve ever got on with
I've seen them show up in a few places, Mercari, eBay, and currently one on Reverb.
I cant find any of these used anywhere. Man, this is one instrument that I’d give anything for lol I’ve been looking for literally years. The only one I did find was super beat up and the guy wanted like 1,200 for it and it said it had “normal wear”. In reality it looked like he gave a 3 year old a chisel and let him go to town on the body. I’m hoping one shows up in my local music store at some point.
They do seem very rare but they’re also really nice. I keep thinking about selling mine as I never play it but it’s so nice
If you’re still looking, I’m watching this vid because one in great condition just got posted to Kenora, Ontario’s FB Marketplace. $800 CAD. Might ship?
The body finish is darker than the wood beneath it, but it's also very thin, so that you will notice every little thing like pick scratches immediately. Maybe that's why the one you looked at seemed to have been ravished by cats. Don't be fooled by looks. Try it, use thick strings (100 or 105 for low E or in my case drop-D), don't dial in as many highs as the guy in this video and use a bass amp. Looks will not be important anymore then.
It’s back for 2023!
I need those tabs !
I'd love to have one, but can't seem to find one for sale.
Are you in England? I’m thinking of selling mine. Oddly I love it but I just never play it
@@PherotoneStudios Unfortunately no, I am in the US.
How does the string spacing compare to a traditional 6 string?
I believe it’s the same
@@PherotoneStudiosjust preordered the multiscale version they just announced
Man I want one so bad. Does anyone know the history behind it and why they discontinued it?
It's back for 2023
Could be cool to tune it in Fifths
I really want one but they’re like rocking horse shit at the minute
Needs to be fretless.
i want one but can't find it anywhere ... :(
They’re discontinued but do come up of eBay and Reverb now and again. Sometimes they’re a fair price but sometimes they are very expensive. Great instrument though
I've been tracking them on Reverb for a couple months, looks like one comes up at least once a month there. I LITERALLY just dropped money on one about 30 minutes ago, lol. Hurts my wallet cause it's going for so much right now... but I hope it's worth it.
Multi scale version was just announced
In my video" Pandemic new double cd Spinal Scratch out now" the song is called Children of the Machine and the only guitar I used was my Ibanez Src6 I love that bad boy and am working on new music now for it. Cheers

Great review .Your tone and playing sounded great and honest opinions ideas all expressed ...
I been working on not using Jesus or Gods name in vain... so I'll say thank God for you sir.
Dude - lose the reverb, you're not playing surf tunes. Delay, chorus, flanger - much more appropriate for that tone.
