It turns out I've been filling my washer fluid all wrong for years! I pour the first half quart on the ground, not the last. I always enjoy the videos!
Yep...to be fair here too, how many people would actually look at the condition of the threads on the drain plug, when most places would just ignore it?
I've watched several of your vids, Ray, and finding a good mechanic is one thing, but finding an honest one is pure gold. I believe that you are both. There is a stigma surrounding mechanics that is similar to used car salesmen, which is unfortunate. I understand the need to make profit, but I also believe that honest shops will produce more repeat customers. I have a shop in my area that takes really good care of me, and has even gone as far as not charging me for minor repairs because they consider me a "good customer". I believe you are one of those mechanics that I could trust, and that I would go to if I lived nearby. I have learned a lot from your channel, and I look forward to more!
Hyundai honestly impressed me the first time I performed an oil change and inspection on one of their vehicles, similar to this one, but I think a little bit newer and a V6. EAF was easy to access and remove, battery wasn't hidden under a butt load of plastic bs, oil drain was mess-free, and the angled oil filter housing coupled with the drain spout made it a no-mess job as well. You can tell it was definitely designed by engineers with tech experience and/or influence. By far the easiest vehicle I've ever serviced.
It seems like I spill a lot more this way but if I didn't I'd have no reason to use two cans of brake cleaner every time I fill up my windshield washer fluid.
Thank you so much for providing supplementary power while changing battery. I've never had the mechanic do that for me, even when I asked one time. Almost like it's to hard. Wasn't even changing my battery this time, it was the alternator on warranty (fluctuating voltage from 13-15v). Means a lot to a customer when technician goes the extra mile, or in this case 2 inches as it's not that difficult.
IMO anything that has power leads that connect to the battery should always have the battery disconnected. no matter how good you are, it takes a tiny slip to have the hot and neutral connect and arc out
Yeah, that isn't being lazy, it's being safe. Remember, the alternator has a very large positive cable bolted on. No big deal if you disconnect the battery, but have a battery involved and any accidental contact potentially becomes accidental welding. But since you asked them to do that they could have at least let you know that it was a safety concern either before or after.

I am 79 years old. When I was a kid in Oklahoma we had a swamp bucket that hung in a window, a very large unit. When it would be in the 90,s to a hundred we would go to the ice plant, buy a 50 pound block of ice and put in the swamp cooler. Made a great difference. We thought it was great until we installed air conditioning that took water out of the air rather than adding more. ated
Not at 77% relative humidity it won’t. I have seen small portable air conditioning units that have actual refrigeration. Some of them cool the condenser with a garden hose and then dump the heated water down a drain with another hose. That might be a better solution than a swamp cooler.
The "spin-and-run" method is a crack up lol. I do all my basic maintenance at home because i do so many miles. This will be my new filter removal method of operation haha
It's an option! Me, I got a whacking great gutter nail, sharpened it up on the grinder, and with a hammer, punch a hole into the bottom of the filter and let it drain for a while, or overnight. Sometimes a second hole needs to be punched to eliminate glug glug or let it flow better. Either way, it reduces sploosh a lot when I finally do remove the filter.
Have you tried the spin off and run method for the drain plug? crack it loose, and SPIN! if it aint bound up it falls out and you dont get oil on your hands
Man it's the little things you do that make you great. The average mechanic would not worry about radio settings and keeping power to the module while pulling the old battery. Great customer service sir.
Ray I’ve been watching your videos for about a month and I’m starting my first day of UTI on Monday. Your videos help me understand the kind of mindset I should have when working on my car, but more importantly others and I thank you for that 🙏

Ray may be the ONLY mechanic I have seen to try to save things like radio presets. I can take mine in for an oil change and they still disconnect all the power for some reason.
Why is it that they put the heaviest part of a car other than the engine block (the battery) in such hard to reach places? I just spent three days trying to get my Mercedes battery which is extra large and extra heavy out from under the front passenger seat. Had to buy a special tool because I am old a frail and can no longer lift twist suspend and twist some more.
My Hyundai dealer told me to use Hyundai oil filters only because there's an internal check valve that keeps the oil in the top end of the engine when the engine is shut down and any other filter would void my warranty. Were they just bs-ing me ?

I've never had much luck with those blue plastic-y drain plug gaskets. Used to keep a box of crush washers on hand just in case. I'm always amused when I see cold air intake ducting passing over the battery like that. Bonus points if you can convince your customer their car is a hybrid, and that's how it sucks the electrons into the engine. :D

I usually just splash it all over the engine and whatever makes it into the reservoir is good enough.
It’s hard to argue with a method for pouring a fluid that is literally designed to be spilled on the ground.
Some say, just an oil change. With Ray it is a colourful journey into the adventures of car maintenance. Thanks a lot!
