A bookbinder once told me that he goes to Goodwill and buys old men's striped shirts. The older ones have smaller stipes that are perfect for that. Lots of headbands for little cost. I had forgotten about that until I saw yours. Great idea with the calico! THANK YOU !!
You have a great way of explaining things and always seem so enthusiastic about what you do that I immediately want to try out whatever it is you demonstrate! X
I really love your videos. Even if it's about something I'll probably never do...like this.😊 But, ya never know.😏 You are so good about explaining the 'why' you do a certain thing. It really helps me retain the info. I have often used your tips & techniques in various other ways than what's in the video. Thank you, though, for explaining the various components of book making. It seems a lost art. I hope you're doing well, and feeling even better. Much love and take good care.💚💚💚
Thank you, Nik. I had not known about this technique before. So wonderful to learn something new and useful. I've been crafting for over 40 years and learning something new is so refreshing. TYFS, Donna, in California.
Thanks so much Nik for educating us on bookbinding. I never would have known these things without your knowledge. Thanks for everything you do. I pray that you are feeling much better. Take care young lady and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
Thanks Nik, as always I’ve learned a lot from watching! Sure appreciate you taking the time and making the effort to share this process with Us . I’ve never known how they are made and thanks to you I now know 💖😊💖
I’ve had success using glue on the entire strip, folding over and securing the entire band. The wet glue allows me to to use the bone folder to push the cord into the fold nicely and also secure the rest of the fabric, similar to glueing book cloth to the book board. Then I cut the length as needed. It doesn’t take long to dry. I also do this using paper scraps. It looks great!
Run fabric through my printer...😩mine won’t even take 80lbs card stock without throwing an error...but I wanna try this!!!😂 I think it would be worth it!💫♥️
This is excellent Nik - thanks so much I had been admiring your tiny leather books that you showed us and was wondering how you managed to do the bands on such small books.
AAAAAAAGGGGGGG! You are never going to believe this. Yesterday I tried to rebind my Bible. I decided to use the method used for the beginners 4x4 book. I thought it might work well when rebinding a Big Mumma of a book. It mostly went well, but I saw these ratty end pieces that contained the ribbon. I especially wanted to add loads of ribbon and wanted to but or make these thingynebobbies but couldn't look them up because I had no idea what they were called. In the end I just glued the ribbons under two small strips of plain bookcloth... then today up pops this video. This is definitely yet another thing in my life to file under "Sod's Law" 🤣
Excellent video! Another way to put that stitching around the top is to use your sewing machine and zig zag off the outside edge like an overlock stitch. I'm getting ready to refurbish a very old book that I love and will be using this headband tute as part of the process. Thank you again...
I like your cheater cheater punkin eater, Line it made me giggle... We have said that forever... I have been MIA a lot and not seeing you in a while makes me glad I stoped by.

Of course, I am so crazy that I thought you were making a headband to wear out of a book. This was so much more interesting!!!😜😜😜
I thought she was going to use actual headbands as closures for journals. 🤣

Oh......!! Now I get it. I wondered what exactly a headband was and you explained how they were historically made and how to make them now. Thank you!
Never disappointed with Nik’s videos...
Do you have a video that describes how to install the headband?
Yes I would love to know how to install them on a book. How fascinating this is.
GENIUS!!! LOVE that metallic thread "hack." :-)

In my opinion headbands also avoid dust getting between the textblock and the back...
I always love your videos, Nik! This is a great tutorial; thanks for sharing with us. 😊
We had this convo on Etsy not that long ago. Love that you made a video.

I use the freezer paper method (you mention on the screen) works good for my ink jet. Just be sure to adjust your ink level! Great video as always!
What do you mean by adjust your ink level. Thank you.
Do you have video of attaching the faux headband into books? Thank you!

Thank you! How are you? Hoping all is well?
Perhaps steam a seam would give the paper enough structure to run through the printer?
Thanks for sharing! I was wondering how that works.🤔
Thank you!
Where is the ticking printable; can't find it. Thanks, Nik
