Oh man, I love this movie so much. It and especially its messages literally changed my life, and it will always remain high on my favorites. This is definitely one of my favorite movie scenes I've ever seen!
Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2 belong to Dreamworks Animation, and the soundtracks are composed by John Powell and Hans Zimmer. All rights go to them!

Nobody's changing my mind here. This slaps more than oogway ascends.
I think oogway ascends is lighter than this, but this feels more epic. Really matters on the mood.
I not gonna say which on is better than the other all I will say is that their both powerful but in different ways
What's "TC"?
Thank god I’m not the only one who thinks this.
Why do you guys have to compare everything?
I just realized Po's father was the one who permanently damaged the eye of the Wolf Boss. That's a very cool detail.
Probably explains why could see visions through the Boss’s marks specifically.
@@osmanyousif7849 Except the Boss Wolf's marks is the mark of Shen.
Po chose not to go on the path of revenge, whether or not Shen took the life of his parents. That says a lot about Po and his pure hearted nature.

Because Po found another parent of his... which was Mr. Ping. Had it not been for Mr. Ping's hospitality, kind nature, and his patience, Po would have been emotionally toasted.
All thanks to his father he became the way he is.

Everyone feels. The ability to feel is the ability to connect. These days there is not enough of that.
This is probably not only the best scene in the movie, but in the whole franchise aswell, and i'm afraid there will never be something that will top it
Agree 💯 it been my favorite scene since I saw it when it first came out in 2011 it really hit hard but in a good way.
Yeah. I just came here to read the comments after I rewatched this movie because I hated what they did with the fourth one.
@@zekion.I agree dude, the fourth movie feels like such a big disrespect
4:00 that small rewinding to his story till now is what actually gave me goosebumps on my first watch. It was so powerful and delicate at the same time. Kung Fu Panda is one of those rare animated franchises that was able hold it's meaning and purpose throughout each part beautifully. It's amazing! Po is so good as a character. He's natural and loveable.
I think this inspired IP man 4, that movie has a scene just like this
@@TheReeelBradPitt Haven't watched that movie but I'm curious so I'll search it 😀
I agree. It was in the spectacular spiderman cartoon too, never gets old.
The story in Kung fu panda 3 is more like an episode than a movie
@@exen3980 hmm... But it delivers a great watch everytime. Yeah I get your point though. But if you hold that kinda perspective then the other two movies should feel the same to you. Each movie has some addition to Po's past and there's a different villain with same characters so all the three are kinda that type?
Let me just say, Hans Zimmer and John Powell are a force to be reckoned with. Amazing music it really ties things together in a way only music can.
Hell yesss
The flashback of Tigress hugging Po just giving me tears. It’s so nice to have a friend like her in your life. Hails for all great friendships.
I gotta love how in the first movie she goes from being the one to most openly express her disdain for Po, to being his best friend in the 5 and having possible ship tease moments with him.
Yeah, like many other people have pointed out, I really like that the relationship between Po and Tigress never becomes romantic. Their relationship is one that avoids the pitfall many others fall victim to
2:04 years later, still makes me feel teary eyed
0:57 chills, without even having seen the movie
The kung fu panda series is so much better than the name would have you think
@@lukez9721 kung*
This is as perfect as a scene can get. The music, the colors, the movement, the transitions, the story, the voice-acting, it’s all so perfect. This scene makes me feel more emotions for Po than for my mother, and I love my mother a lot.
Bro is in love with Po 🙏😭
2:58 you can hear a somber version of Oogway Ascends as Po's Mom prepares to lead Shen and the Wolves away. To me it makes her sacrifice more heroic than all the things Oogway did in his life
In my opinion, it just shows how important Oogway is as a character. He is the most important character in the series. I mean, he literally created Kung-Fu. And this scene, which is arguably also the most important scene of the series, ends with Oogway Ascends.
i like to think it represents how, in sacrificing herself for her child, Po’s mom gained a similar level of empathy and compassion to Oogway - how they’re both similar in terms of what they value and how their deaths affected Po
@@lord_ozymandias Well said
I kinda think it represents that Her death had and even greater effect on Po than Oogway's did
You can also hear a more triumphant version of Oogway ascends during the second flashback
2:24 everytime this plays, I can’t help, but tear up. The tension building with you knowing that it won’t end well for her is so perfect. Nothing in any sort of film or show has gotten me even close to crying for whatever reason, but this piece manages to make me tear up every single time.
Fun fact: the theme used in this part is called "Dies Irae". It's a motif that's used widely throughout music usually to signify death or themes with similar gravity.
I agree %100. I cried at that, Every Single Time.... why?
Same, it brings me to tears every time.
@@blackcat9513 a scene that shows a mothers love for their child. A mothers willingness to sacrifice their own life for their child to survive. I cry everytime as well. This entire segment is an absolute movie scoring masterclass.

Don't we all...
I cry so hard everytime I see this scene
My favourite part in the score? The flashbacks (4:00-4:14) that show up from the first movie, indicating that Po had a good life in the Valley of Peace and found his destiny with the Furious Five as the Dragon Warrior. That always has me smiling.
@GamerZ it reminded me of the scene in ip man 4
That’s what makes this scene so great. The contrast between his distant past and his recent past. Despite the start not being great, but Po found his happiness through his adopted father, his master and friends and himself being the dragon warrior
My favorite scene in the movie.
My favorite scene in the franchise (aside from Oogway Ascends). The incorporation of that theme at the end makes it 100 times better.
Same!!
The motif at 1:22 remains one of my favorite in all of movie music. So poignant.
mine too. it automatically makes me cry right at that moment, it strikes me to my core. this whole song is incredible.
yup
3:57 instant chills
At 3:17 the music slowly fating away is the most sad because you can just picture Shen catching up to Po’s mother and killing her
Po likely has the saddest backstory of any DreamWorks animated character. Your village getting attacked when you're young and becoming an orphan because of it. That's pretty dark not to mention traumatizing
And yet I still remember the day I got called a baby for loving KFP and when I tried to explain how dark and violent the 2nd movie is, the guy just started laughing at me.
@@leeobrien2004 and what happened to that guy?
@@pedrogabrielduarte4544 I just walked away.
Moses from Prince of Egypt also had a sad backstory.
The same to moses but the difference is po witnessed it,moses didn't. That's why po's backstory is sadder than moses
This scene is actually so fucking sad and way deeper than I thought after rewatching this movie after years 😭
This scene always give me goosebumps, it's so strong.
*Flashbacks of Po’s village being attack and being separated from his parents*
“Your story may not have had such a happy beginning…”
“…but that does not make you who you are. It is the rest of your story, who you choose to be.”
*Flashbacks of Po growing up to be a happy adult, becoming the Dragon Warrior and defeating Tai Lung, having new friends and family at his side*
I've never realized until now how sad and just plain brutal this scene is, especially with Po's mom.
Just the bare thought of being left helpless in a little box of radishes and watching as his mom leaves you there in the cold, saving his life in the process, but also being the last time ever for him to see his mother.
Just the look on her face, having to sacrifice herself in order to save her son.
And not to mention those small little hands, it's haunting.
KFP 2 is a hella touching movie, im speechless. I do not believe a single live-action movie has ever made me feel this way before. Damn.
I've been there before. I was a little baby in China left on a doorstep in a box. Was eventually adopted into the worlds greatest family ever.
This movie hit hard and I honestly can't watch it again, despite being in the comment section, but I survived it. And I'm thankful. And also thankful that Dreamworks put so much thought and care into this.
When po unlocked his memories he unlocked inner peace
I don't think I've ever cried as much while watching anything except this movie. It just hits....I came here after watching the fourth installment of the franchise, and it just lacks so much emotional depth in comparison to this.
4:00 never fails to make me tear up
Man, I cried at this scene, nothing is more important to me than my mother, and that scene is just so damn heart wrenching. It made me cry when I was 9, it makes me cry 9 years later. I've watched saving private Ryan, titanic, pursuit of happiness, green mile, good will hunting, Forrest gump and a bunch of other tearjerkers. But I don't know why, no matter how much I try to fight it, I can't help but cry when she leaves Po. Maybe it's just the huge contrast between the first and second movie, but it's the only movie that has been able to make me cry consistently.
2:19 is my favorite. The drums & the violins really add to the tension in this scene. Having to see Po process said tension is pure ecstasy.
One musical moment that really stood out to me was 1:26 - 1:31. The big, epic, dramatic battle music from the flashback continues playing... even though it cuts back to Po in the present, where all he's doing is just picking up a doll buried under some debris. Visually, it's such a stark contrast from what immediately comes before, switching from the bright red fire to the cool blue rain, from 2D to 3D, from past to present. But the music stays the same, and it seamlessly bridges the gap without losing any emotional momentum. Such an understated moment.
Yeah, notice how Po’s recent past is animated in CGI, the same as the whole movie. To me that’s a subtle hint that Po chose to live in the present as opposed to clinging onto the past
The time between the visions and the flashback of his life was perfect, and the music compliments it perfectly. I interpreted it as not as Poe thinking of who he is and what led to him becoming the Dragon Warrior, but instead, just what opportunities he was allowed to live through all because of the undying motherly love a mother would have in sacrificing herself for their child. He is the dragon warrior NOW because she gave her life for him THEN.
respect to all mothers.
Respect to all good mothers.
Good specification.
Not all mothers deserve respect
Only to the parents that would do what pos parents did here to defend their kids
@@andersonico2882 Bad mothers aren’t mothers. Their guardians.
Thank you so much for this! This was one of the few moments in any movie that caused me to become really emotional. It really is one of those cases where the music creates the emotional connection to the audience in a way the dialogue could never achieve.
Yes, exactly!! It's incredible, the impact music can have. Especially in deep moments like this. ^^ And thanks again for the request! Gave me the push I needed to finally do this amazing scene.

Hans Zimmer is probably one of the best composers imo
Seriously. I rank that man and his works up there with Bach, Stravinsky, Beethoven and Mozart for the sheer emotional influence and power they’ve conveyed (kinda off-topic but I almost threw my remote at the screen when his score for Interstellar lost in the 2014 oscars smh) He quite literally is a mastermind of the modern era when it comes to the art of composing. Say what you want about all the other genius musical minds out there, but you can never deny the recognition Hans Zimmer deserves in masterpieces like this track alone.
Honestly? Not really. Hans is a very different composer, he likes synths and tracks that are more fit to fit the mood than to stand on their own. And its very doubtful zimmer was very involved in kfp2 anyway, he makes one or two themes and delegates other composers from his studio to make it. The fact kfp2 is so good is most likely dur to powell, who is much more orchestral
You’re forgetting about Michael Giacchino broski.
I think john powell is a better choice
Kung Fu Panda 2 was amazing! Especially this scene here, and the flashback. Realising although his parents left him to save him, Po understands that everything that happened to him, him becoming the Dragon Warrior, him meeting his idols and later becoming friends with them, meeting his adoptive father Mr Ping, none of that would have happened if his parents didn’t leave him. He understood that, and accepts it, unlike Shen. That’s what allowed Po to find inner peace. Beautiful
3:53 is stellar
Best moment of the entire series
This scene never fails to make me lose it man. Kung Fu Panda 2 is peak
Watching this in cinema as a kid was something else. It's still one of the best cinema experiences I've ever had. A true masterpiece
3:57 I absolutely love the music for this part
yes me tooo
The magic begins at 1:50
This scene is my second favorite from the series. My favorite is Oogway Ascends, and the incorporation of that theme at the end makes this scene and track 100 times better.
The only movie scene that consistently gives me goosebumps, definitely one of the best trilogies ever created (4 doesn't exist (let me forget))
This scene along with how Ping adopted Po are probably the closest thing these movies ever got to making me cry, both scenes makes you both feel sad in different ways, i’d say this movie and the first one outright carried the entire series beyond, kfp3 was fine but didnt hit you in the feels as much, and kfp4 was just…a cashgrab imo. This series, thanks to this movie had so much potential and unfortunately like most other sequels it wasn’t used very well.
Something that's understated, and rightly so because its a movie meant primarily for kids, but the fact the wolves not only burned the village (and killed many pandas within it) but more horrific is how rabidly they hunted down the fleeing pandas. Indicated by Po's mother but if they were chasing her they had to have been chasing the others.
Obviously some escaped, but its distressingly realistic to how massacres are. The village destroyed and those running hunted down.
Shen will always be the best villain of this franchise. No contest.
We must all strive to be like Po no matter our trauma, we've got this 💪
This score is amazing. Hans Zimmer and John Powell are amazing composers who are even better together
3:09 the slight bass kick when Po's mom turn to a bait is what makes the heartbreak complete
Po mum is the raindrop
The box of raddish is the leaf
The grass water
Just like shifu
When I watched this movie on the teather
I was 8 years old, and I remember to cry in this scene 3:11 , because it was the first time that I saw the pure evil..Shen showed me the true side of the evil....
This brings me back so many memories of "having friends", and my childhood.
This scene always makes me shed a tear. It’s so beautiful. The score, the context, the animation… everything!
I cried so much back then
I still do now
Literally cried in this scene
1:39 sounds like Hans added a little Batman to the scene
Man, I have never cried so hard over a movie. I think it's the thought in mind of being alone after you lost everyone, and Po DID lose everyone he loved. You literally see his mother get runed down by Shen and his men.
Same here..
This scene is probably one of the best ive seen in a movie
Everything about it is just peak cinematic masterpiece.
The score, the shots, the artstyle, the story portrayal, the message, the delivery, the tone everything abt it is just mwuahhh
One of the few onky films that both made me cry and be in awe of how amazing this scene alone is
Soothsayer: nightmare or memory?
This was once a thriving Panda village I foretold if lord shen would continue his path he would be defeated by a warrior of black and white...a panda...but I could not foretell what came next...
Stop fighting let it flow.
Your story may not have such a happy beginning but that doesn't make you who you are...it is the rest of your story who you chose to be.
So who are you Panda?
I'm Po and I need a hat
Kung fu panda 1 purpose: Believing in yourself and others.
Kung fu panda 2 purpose: Letting go of the past.
Kung fu panda 3 purpose: Be yourself to achieve your best and help others be their best selves.
We don’t see this in movies nowadays. It’s all pointless and uninspiring. We took these older movies for granted.
Kung Fu Panda 4 purpose: You can’t stay the same person forever.
One thing I don’t see talked about enough is the use of color in the scene.
When Po first flashes back to his youth in the village, everything is layered in a relaxing, bright green. Green usually symbolizes peace-related concepts such vitality, serenity, and nature.
Then the minute the music changes, everything flashes to a violent fire red.
The complimentary colors used here to properly convey the feeling of everything you loved and stood for being so brutally taken from you in an instant is so well-done and really helps enhance the abrupt 180 in tone that plays out in that scene.
To add to this, once you see the third movie, it could be also be said that the village laid out in green could be foreshadowing Kai’s role in the panda village later on.
Man everything about this soundtrack is MM
Seeing Po's memories and when the flashbacks at 4:00 played showing Po's life, the struggles he went though and the achievements he won is perfect
This might be the most inspirational movie ever
3:42 "Your story may not have such a happy beggining. but that doesn't make you who you are, its it the rest of your story. Who you choose to be"
2:05 the INNER PEACE LEITMOTIF OH MY GOD!!!! IS PHENOMENAL!!
This scene always brings a tear to my eye: I don't know why.
0:57 this is the part im loving it, it really show how darkness po childhood is.
I like that it ends not in something related to kung fu, but with po and mr ping.
without a doubt the most impactful part of this scene is when the 2D animation of Po's mother running away shifts abruptly to full CGI. At the beginning of 1 in Po's dream, in which he was fighting alongside the furious five as an all powerful master of kung fu, it unintentionally set the tone that po's imagination was set in 2D animation and that was capitalized on throughout the sequel when po would get these 2D flashbacks of po's mother leaving him for reasons unknown, It didn't feel like a memory to him, but more like a long-forgotten nightmare resurfaced, as it was when he had the nightmare of being replaced upon reuniting with his parents and even here, when po was attempting to find inner peace so that he could "stop fighting" these nightmares, and "let them flow"....and then, 2:36, that sudden shift to full 3D, it's no longer a bad dream. He remembers everything as it happened, from his father fending off shen's forces to give his family time to escape, to his mother leaving his son's fate practically in the hands of destiny itself, hiding him in a basket of food and sacrificing herself so that shen would not know of his existence. It's no long a nightmare...it is a horrid, scarring memory.
I remember feeling sad for some reason when I was young, but I remember I still didn't understand the concept of death but I think my senses naturally picked up that it was death and I cried a little

Kung Fu Panda 2 is the best one out of the trilogy. It explains Po’s past and Shen is tied to it making the villain feel more personal. I think the first movie is great, it started the character, but this one really hits deep. The third movie is also good but this film knocks it out of the part.
Some times you can't hire the emotion in a music score when u are also listening for the dialogue, this video has made me realise that u don't need to hire the words when the music tells u everything.
This Made me realize something.
This Story, is remade of Exodus story in Chinese culture.
And I believe that Shen is the “lord or In Moses story is The pharaoh”. who wants to kill all Panda’s in the village
The way story line also follows: Pharaoh Wants to sacrifice all Hebrew babies to the river of crocodiles.
Just sends all guards, to slay them all. Or to be sacrificed all babies into the Nile river.
But that’s a whole different story.
But
Po’s mom Is to be Moses’s mother, Carrying him in arms. To Her Last moments. With his sister. Leaving him in the basket drifting away on the lake. as Po is carried by a deer attached to a carrier. And Po’s Dad the goose I also intend to believe. Is the Pharaoh’s daughter who finds him in the basket drifted into their home, by the Wind.
She just has to be rewritten into a goose. In the story.
Sounds familiar.
Point me wrong I’m okay with that.
Even ChatGPT says it false.
It wasn’t me who Actually knew.
It was my nerdy Grandpa who knew.
