I have been playing bass (and music in general) for 30+ years. It was my one true love in life. A few years ago I had to put it down for a bit and have recently started picking it back up. When I did, I found that I didn’t get that same warm fuzzy feeling of excitement when I’d play. I never know what to play and when I do play I feel like I just don’t love it anymore. I’ve been on a search for inspiration, to get that feeling back. Watching you play, I see that. That smile when you land those fills. That “yeah, this is badass”. I know it’s not just “getting old”. Thank you. I needed to see it again. Maybe I’ll go learn a bunch of Rancid songs.
I just got back into bass after 7/8 years off. First thing I did was jam along to Rancid and RATM tunes. Seeing Matt play along with these tunes and having an absolute ball just like everybody else - with the bits he fucks up as much as the parts as he nails - brings such a smile to my face! How are you getting along with your bass playing 7 months after your comment?
This is easily my new favorite channel. Subscribed once International Cover-up dropped. What a rewarding view of Matt's professional skills and abilities. That's Entertainment! (next?)
Nice. Another great song from lets go. Id like to see "Backslide" if its not asking to much. I know theres a bit of drama with playing that one. I feels so lucky that i grew up in the " ...and out come the wolves" era. Matt sets the bar so high for other bass players, but personally im glad i learned my emulating the best. I only ever had 3 weeks of formal "lessons" . as soon as the guy said that he couldn't teach me the roots radicals i walked and taught it to myself note for note. I went on to learn every song from every album from "RANCID" to "RANCID". With those songs i learned music theory, what works and what just wont, how to write bass lines that dont just mimic the rythem guitar, polyrythemic synchronized time signatures. time s and backbeating the root, and enough chops to go toe to toe with any snobby jazz musician. The only difference is you can move to what i know how to play. Id love a chance to sit down with matt and just watch him play. If i can learn what i know now from just a few of his records, i cannot imagine how much he can teach us all ? Keep it up matt.
@@luiseduardogomezdearandaju723 its nothing saucy or anything. from the interviews i read matt just couldn't play it. Not the way he " really wanted to". There was another band in the studio at the time and matt wanted to play the song the way their bass player did it. It had a more fluid "groove" feel... But matt tends to "lock in" and couldn't get that open, flow feeling he was after. It apparently drove him nuts, that he couldn't mirror what he was hearing.
@@Spineburger yeah... I got it wrong... Oh well. Both albums are good. Its not like if you listened to lets go looking for this youd be any worse for it.
I wanna hear the whole catalogue like this. Just Matt playing live bass to the recordings

May I ask what the drama with that song is? I mean, I think I can imagine, but what's that all about?
