The game is clunky and needed a lot of polish, but for someone that has always loved the concept of vampires and the sort of premodern fantasy "genre" this game just really encapsulates everything I could have wanted from it. The vibes, the setting, the atmosphere, were all enthralling to me (pun intended) I don't think another vampire game will hook me the same way for a good long while unfortunately.
The thing they nailed is the theme of being a social predator. A lot of the game's impact is lost if you choose to commit to being wholly evil or good because no one else in this world is. Even the most obvious sociopath has some degree of understandability or someone else that relies on them for survival. It really forces you to consider what life is worth taking and for what reason because (at least on normal mode) the combat is balanced to a point where you will hit a stone wall in terms of difficulty soon, forcing you to consider other ways of getting stronger, which will not be an easy choice because of how everything is connected. It makes a vampire's need for a blood into the player's need for strength which is a really, REALLY good idea.
This game, the Lore, the Voice Acting, the whole idea of a Vampire, where you are in a moral Dilemma with being a Doctor, saving people in a war torn England, and becoming a predator. It's been 6 Years, already and either this game needs a Remake, or They need a sequel for it. Add the fact that Doctor Jonathan Reid, is the most interesting character to date. If they decide to make a prequel, maybe make it about King Arthur, since it was stated that he was Myrdin's champion as well. I know the game is far from perfect, but it's a Double A game, just imagine how much DontNod can do with the proper funding. The thing is, it might be clunky but when you look at the story/lore, and also what the game company has been doing with their games, you're gonna be thoroughly impressed. DontNod isn't the biggest company, but man they actually make decent games in the past. Anyway, I'm happy that people has been seeing or reviewing these types of games, because it seems that the gaming Industry forgot how to write memorable games, like this. The only issue I have with the game is fast travel, if they could implement it in the Sequel, and also widen the map of England, and well, I'm hoping to play as the Good ol Doctor in part 2, we may get to see DontNod learn from this.

I hope they do Vampyr 2 set in Dublin city 1900’s. The maps of the city are fascinating, Even where Bram Stoker lived & worked. Plus the Dublin accents are great I’m Still playing October 2024. I love this game & I’ll never stop playing!

This game was very difficult due to the combat, but it was delightful to experience. The setting, the ost, the characters and the ambience made it totally worth it.
I loved the idea and the story of the game, but it was playing the game that was a nightmare for me. The controls were what fucked me off from the game. And not like, how you had to play it with combos or anything like that. Just felt really poorly optimized for the xbox, which was how i played it at the time of release.
I see your point. I played on ps4 and later on ps5. it's come a long way since release. many updates and a next gen patch. i heard it works great on xbox series x, with the extra frame rates and a more polished look

This game was filler for VTMB for me, and unfortunately it didn't meet my unrealistic teenage boy expectations, but I still loved it and download it from time to time.

The game was really held by by the progression system. While they had a really good *idea* it did not translate well to gameplay. Because initially, given how the game warns you, you'll likely try to spare everyone. Well if you do that, you get brick walled by the massive level jumps the enemies take. Whereas on the opposite end, you'll be incredibly strong, but now everywhere has devolved into chaos and it's even more of a pain in the ass to travel around. Even if you go for a middle ground you're likely to wind up on one end anyways. You're either underleveled, or every district is burning. Which is an utter shame because again, the idea is really good, and just about every other part of the game is very well done. Other than it not having and sort of fast travel and Dr Reid having a bit of a dated look imo. Its crazy how just a little bit of tweaking could have changed the games tragectory
I get what you mean. Personally, I felt that those aspects in the gameplay made sense with regards to the choices and story. Like, I saw it that the game would be harder and that Reid's vampire powers would be weaker or less significant if you decided on making him a doctor through and through. And oppositely, that if you embraced his darker nature and thirst, he'd become a dracula-like character, and his powers would develop into that of a demi-god essentially. But I also see what you mean from a gameplay perspective; the player will not get as much xp and so wont be able to level up frequently, and that also means weaker health bar, weaker strength and stamina, less abilities in general. The good thing is that most fights outside of boss fights can be avoided. Especially with the invisibility ability. But still, when it comes to boss fights, as a Johnathan with less xp, the game instantly becomes a souls-like and the gameplay mechanics aren't as smooth as a souls game to have it be so difficult. So even though I did enjoy that aspect of the game, I get why some wouldn't.
This is a game I wish had a triple a budget and scope. Like image if rockstar tried to make a vampire game. the story was great but i feel ultimately it needed more scope to be at its full potential.
I don't think that bosses get harder if you kill people I only played hard difficulty and when I didn't kill anyone bosses were tough but when I played again and kill everyone it was like playing on easier than easy mode. I destroyed bosses under a minute so I don't know if it really scales up to be honest.
Just platinumed this game a little while ago, after years of having a few trophies unlocked. I liked it! Except I missed a collectible because of a flipping ekon, and i went to sleep so the dude died😂 Amazed by the story though, gameplay wise REALLY interesting. Hoping for a sequel!
worth giving another shot if you ever feel like it. i get bored of games all the time. i left rdr2 on hold for ages cause i got bored, then i continued it one random evening and it blew me away

Introduction was a bit generic but again it's hard to introduce such a character in a context dure it could be better but yeah. About characters being stiff, wow no way characters are pretty well done and actually offer lots of moral dilemma perhaps you were not invested but characters weren't stiff at all.
