VC12x that's the modern game industry for you remember the pc version of arkham knight I remember a time where the game you bought was complete and you didn't need to put 50 gigs of data on your hard drive despite using the physical version seriously the xbox and play station don't even need fucking disc drives now
I mean, respawn did some bad decisions. But they worked in the cod4 campaign, they KNOW how to make good linear campaigns, they didn't do it in 1 because they were high or something. And the universe of TTfall deserved one, because it's an interesting setting. Like with Star Wars, only that EA is really dumb, or greedy or both at the same time.
Un-Metaphorical Grapevine Yes and no. LA has the majority, but most of the major South Cali cities have smog as well. When you get to the Northern half is where the cleaner air is (for numerous reasons)
Un-Metaphorical Grapevine Depends on the time of year I guess. I get to Cali a lot and sometimes there is smog (in not LA) I was more comparing it to Northern cities then just smog in general.
And that tells you a lot about CoD if a fucking farming simulator sells better than it. Not ripping on Stardew Valley however, my 80 hours in it can attest to that.
amazon will sell it - although it lists a 23rd of february release date in the UK, while Yahtzee`s site (fullyramblomatic dot com) says 1st of february. go figure, but either way it looks very good imho
AverageGuard Lucas No ik it was great, I beat it three times. But when the guy who's a constant cynic on his show actually says "yes this is good," it sticks out
Yeah, saw it coming. Combined with it being 20$ on the Steam sale (the only decent deal this winter imo,) the shock of Yahtzee actually having nothing but relatively minor gripes about the game was what drove me to buy it. Good decision, ended up as my GOTY 16 as well.
Ben Wasserman Have you ever played Serious Sam, Earth Defense? Doom 4 just felt like them, just with more budget. And I hated the killmoves so much -,-. Leveldesign was cool and everything looked nice. The Upgrades are ok, but it really breaks the flow when you are searching for them. Weaponsfeeling and handling are very dumbed down because of the speed and many weps just feel mehh. Story was... I dont even remember the story, maybe it should have been funny or skipable. But all in all it lacks just variety in levelstructure: go here, search for upgrades, and go into a room with big bosses. It is ok, I guess, but really nothing to praise. Uncharted 4 was more of the same and while the second game had so many cool moments, this felt kind of boring. Yeah chars and dialogues are good, but story is boring and the fight as well. It just doesnt stand a chance against its predecessors.
No Man’s Sky getting the “I’ll patch something better in later” line is very accurate. The game is actually quite good now, has a pretty good VR mode for no extra cost and keeps getting fixed and filled with loads of content for no extra cost.
I expected it too, but then again it's a thoroughly "okay" game. It's just because it goes through that filter of needlessly finicky controls that it sinks lower. Doom wouldn't be as fun if you had to play with your feet or whatever, that kinda thing.
I think he's aiming at the thing that the video was short, Yahtzee barely insulted any of the shitty games and even then his heart wasn't really into it :D
As a person who's been laughed at many a time for "not hearing painfully obvious things", I have had to slowly come to terms with the fact that human hearing is vastly diversified by *GASP* perception. I know, totally mindblowing.
+Altitude^6 Liked it a lot more than HR actually, reason is that it removed all the small annoyances (all small details that most people probably don't really pay attention but really annoyed me) that pulled down HR for me.
+Altitude^6 I agree with you. The DXHR nonlethal weapons looked cool, and had interesting gameplay tradeoffs that made sense. Stun gun was good for close quarters, but was loud and had a single-shot nature. Tranq rifle was good for long distances and was silent, but had to use either player skill or the built-in targeting attachment thing to land perfectly arced shots for either stationary or moving targets. The DXMD versions were too n00by or less useful, IMO, because they functioned almost identically to their gun counterparts in both appearance and use. The new tranq is just like the sniper rifle, with less need for skill for arcing shots. The new stun gun lacks the ability to affect cameras and bots, so that's less cool.
Kinda doubt that considering in his ds3 review he even said he was fairly lukewarm about ds3. He seemed to have more complaints and less praise for it then any other souls game. Doubt it would have gotten higher then 4th place on his list.

There's a lot of heart that went into it (no pun intended) and the incredible amount of detail in the game can baffle me. There's even things in the files to trip up hackers and cheaters and those trying to get spoilers. The blend of gameplay and narrative is something every game should strive for, it's the reason games are the best mediums for conveying emotion and messages, because they have the opportunity to directly make us feel emotion through our decisions in game.
Its a good game. Best game ever? Maybe not. But I still find myself thinking about it frequently (in no small part to the soundtrack) even almost year and a half later. That's more than I can say for a lot of games. It does this weird thing where it sinks into that nostalgic feel-good sensation like I had for FF6, Breath of Fire/2, Earthbound, Lufia 2 and Chrono Trigger, despite not having the 'history' to warrant nostalgia yet. Maybe its just because its my kind of game, with characters I like and can relate to, a story of sentimentality and empathy that resonated with me, a deft mix of humor hope and solemnity. To sit here and unpack everything I found special about the game would be a disservice to you or anyone else, because it is a personal experience and not everyone may feel the same, and trying to color your experience with my own may set up unreasonable expectations. I'm not going to pretend the game will or should appeal to everyone, though I do think its a good universal and accessible experience, especially to show what a decent game narrative can do.
You're the only channel I follow that makes me switch back to 1.25x speed from 1.5x in my playlist. I'd like to thank you for your high information density! Never change :D
As much as Yahtzee rained on Doom's parade, it certainly was a spectacular game even if it got an easy win. It combined a faithful reboot of the game that started it all with modern technology to create a gory action-packed funfest that I absolutely adored playing whilst failing my classes. It was just a fresh reminder of everything that made video games fun. Hell, even the story was interesting despite its attempts to convince me that the story didn't matter because explosions and monsters. A bright spot in a otherwise disappointing year on so many levels, even in the video game industry
Smartfunnyandlazy We rented the game and were glad we did not actually buy it. I broke the game on the first cutscene, so I stopped playing it. My brother had a gamebreaking bug that kept him from even continuing the game, and my other brother just did not bother with it
HORRIOR Umm you do realise Bf1 and uncharted 4 came out this year and even tho Witcher came out last year the Blood And Wine expansion came out this year. Watchdogs might not be the best but it is a 6 or 7/10. This IS all my opinion btw.
Corey M I've never understood the buzz around uncharted, yeah they can write relatively good stories but if you strip out the cut scenes then the game becomes a set of basic shoot outs with piss easy platforming. doom is a far better game that has a variety of actually challenging shoot outs with ok platforming.
I thought it interesting that "GOODEST", once fully revealed had an visually pleasing and colorful gradient to it while "BLANDEST" was just a mixture of brown and gray lol
Having seen every single Zero Punctuation at least once and many others multiple times over, at the very least I have spent 40.16667 hours watching this one show.
My favorite game of 2016 was definitely Furi. Final Fantasy 15 is a close second along with The Last Guardian, because I'm a dog lover and Trico was the best pet in a video game since Red XIII and Yoshi.
kingdancekiller I plan to play it blind. Ive seen very little content and thats just what I couldnt avoid after living on the internet, such as the first 5-10 minutes and a few characters.
It is definitely a good game IMO. Bit short, and the graphics could be better, but the dodge mechanic is cool. Characters have great personalities, so it becomes all the more crushing if you decide to murder them, or satisfying if you manage to spare them. For the most part, it was only ruined by the addition of a fanbase so bad that it rivals FNAF.
Larsonthewolf Alright, let me rephrase that...Nobody in the general gaming community cares. Of course the fans and people who played it care about it. But the rest of the community brushed it off...although thats mainly due to the rapid fanbase not shoving it in anyones faces anymore (thank god...)
Yahtzee's so in love with Undertale that he can't resist mentioning it in a second year's #1 spot. Will he ever give it a proper review? I wanted to hear him extol its virtues and rip on its shit points. Surely everyone and their mother's played it by now. I doubt anyone's gone unspoiled.
+Lofty Skinner This year also had Pokemon Sun/Moon, Overwatch, Hitman, Hyperlight Drifter, Super Hot, Last Guardian (contentious but many still like it), Dark Soul 3, FF15, The Witness, Inside, Darkest Dungeon, The Banner Saga 2, and Watch Dogs 2.
Mordalon Got enough of Overwatch quickly. Found the skill roof too early and lost interest. Hitman is always bland. Hyperlight Drifter is probably alright, but I have a policy against pixel art games after playing hundreds of them and only ever liking FTL and Papers, Please. The rest are not my cup of tea except Pokémon, which I will buy once they add Pokébank functionality to it since all the starters are cabbage and I have bred Eevee to start with. Just going to randomize what starter I pick and release it.
Lofty Skinner skill roof to easily? There's no skill roof in overwatch unless you're the top player in Comp and if so it's probably cuz you enjoy to play the game....
That chihuahua in a wheelchair... I would buy that the instant I owned a spiral staircase, if only because it's now *mandatory*. Thank you for another happy thought, Yahtzee!
Toonami4Life Or it was an experience that we can now remember fondly without the rabid fan base making us feel ashamed for a what was a pretty good game or the hispter contrarian edge-lords that constantly love to shit on it. Maybe now we can look back with clear heads and actually discuss how a four hour game made such a massive impact.
+kingdancekiller I still don't understand all the praise it gets, I assume most of it comes from younger people who haven't seen this type of story done before. It's so preachy it borders pretentious and self indulgent and its attempts of humor are painfully bad. The gameplay isn't good either and it looks like shit even for a 'retro' 2D game.
Every one and their brother has been releasing a "Top games of 2016" list but Yahtzee's is the only one worth watching since he's the only one who takes the effort to make it entertaining.
If I have any hope for 2017, it's for Steam to fix its shit with Greenlight (yeah right), and for people to stop making movies that pretend to be video games. Yes, your graphics are good, which is as surprising as [insert political party] being corrupt. No, I don't want to play your glorified cutscenes. Even Metal Gear let me skip it's incredibly long-winded bullshit cutscenes so I could get to the GAME.
I have a challenge for you Take a screenshot of any frame in which there are more than 3 entities on screen, then show the screenshot to someone who hasn't seen Zero Punctuation. Ask them to explain what is happening.
There is a definite difference in the way the words are enunciated. His sentences end in two low tones when he usually puts more emphasis and a higher tone on the second to last one. There's typically a faster rhythm with a crescendo throughout the sentence, and it's normally higher pitched overall.

No Man's Sky? More like No Man's Game.
Titanfall 2 is the second best triple A on zero punctuation... if you told me that 2 years ago i would've laughed at you
I mean, respawn did some bad decisions. But they worked in the cod4 campaign, they KNOW how to make good linear campaigns, they didn't do it in 1 because they were high or something. I think he means Call of Duty 4.
DOOM. watch the video
Well that just means the makers of Titanfall aren't heartless and stupid if they learned their lesson and made a better game.
Shame it is inferior to the original.
Wow, Yahtzee's gotten his 2008 voice back. Guess that California smog is doin' him good.
predcon1 Maybe the smog will make him sound like Batman
L.A is the only city in CA that has smog.
Un-Metaphorical Grapevine Yes and no. LA has the majority, but most of the major South Cali cities have smog as well. When you get to the Northern half is where the cleaner air is (for numerous reasons)
Aaron Teitelbaum W-what?
San Diego is clean, and so is orange country.
Un-Metaphorical Grapevine Depends on the time of year I guess. I get to Cali a lot and sometimes there is smog (in not LA) I was more comparing it to Northern cities then just smog in general.
Am I the only one who forgot that some of these games came out in 2016?
In all fairness Devil's Third did come out at the end of 2015.
Radioactive Panda
Far Cry primal happened? Oh yeah....
I could have sworn Farcry Primal came out like three years ago.
It sure felt that way.
Radioactive Panda Yeah some of these felt like 3 or 2 years ago.
Stardew Valley sold more during the sale than Infinite Warfare.
And that tells you a lot about CoD if a fucking farming simulator sells better than it.
Not ripping on Stardew Valley however, my 80 hours in it can attest to that.

Beelzabub, the autistic third cousin to Satan.
I wonder why companies don't just make tons of copies of simple games and make tons of money out of it.
i sure hope 2017 will be a year blessed by another book from Yahtzee!
It already is: Will Save The Galaxy For Food, coming out on the 1st of february
Spk202 oh my god 2017 is the year where world piece is reached. where do I order it?
Hey! That's my birthday!
Arty Ivanenko dude, best birthday present ever

Watching all the top 5 games of each year gives an interesting insight to yahtzee's vocal development
You should try it now 😂
Who else called Doom at #1? It was the only game he was obviously positive about
Ben Wasserman He's a campaign guy, and its goddamn great if that's what you bought it for like me.
AverageGuard Lucas No ik it was great, I beat it three times. But when the guy who's a constant cynic on his show actually says "yes this is good," it sticks out

Dalton Reyburn Not for me. I still preferred Uncharted 4 as GOTY but this was definitely the best FPS campaign since Wolfenstein TNO
Ben Wasserman Have you ever played Serious Sam, Earth Defense? Doom 4 just felt like them, just with more budget. And I hated the killmoves so much -,-. Got to say, shocked Star Fox Zero failed to make it.
True. But hes doing things a bit different, lol.
Ironman1o1 I wouldn't say it was bad, just bland because of a lack of content that could have been added.
I think Yahtzee doesn't care for Star Fox as much as Metroid or Paper Mario.
I would say it is bad. And Yahtzee would agree.
I expected it too, but then again it's a thoroughly "okay" game. It's just because it goes through that filter of needlessly finicky controls that it sinks lower. Doom wouldn't be as fun if you had to play with your feet or whatever, that kinda thing.

Finally a list with no Overwatch.
Uncharted deserves no space on any top x list of the year.
Everyone seems to be giving Overwatch awards in every single fucking category. It even got best art direction. lol
It does have a nice art direction, but lets face it, Everyone kinda expected the half realistic/half cartoony art style for it. Its Blizzard.
Talon Omegus It is decent but its not better arc than Ratchet and Clank or Abzu.
That's because it's the exact same art direction as TF2, which also got best art direction.
THIS IS NOT YAHTZEE WHAT IS HAPPENING
Asauz yeah I know it's really weird
Asauz he sounds as though he has a new Mic or vocal chords or mouth or face or all or none of these things.

Hello Games are developing it, and it's being published by both EA and Ubisoft.
Neo-Mad Dog Deep Silver are co-developers
Lots of money is going into the marketing and fake E3 demo
bethesda are helping with the story
tell-tale are helping with game-play
and digital homocide is helping with the graphics
I quite liked Mankind Divided but other than that i wholly agree with your list
yup
+Altitude^6 Liked it a lot more than HR actually, reason is that it removed all the small annoyances (all small details that most people probably don't really pay attention but really annoyed me) that pulled down HR for me.
How about that new tranq gun in Mankind Divided? It looks better and performs so much better. No more janky arcing shots. =/
I agree, the quarter of the game we got was rather good. Fuck Squeenix tho.
+Altitude^6
I agree with you. So Dark Souls 3 = GOTY is what I get out of this
Holzkohlen Err why not Doom, judging from what he said.
I don't think it deserves GOTY but considering what it's up against why not.
I'd pretty much agree with both choices
Kinda doubt that considering in his ds3 review he even said he was fairly lukewarm about ds3. He seemed to have more complaints and less praise for it then any other souls game.
Doubt it would have gotten higher then 4th place on his list.
I feel like there was no all star game this year. Doom was alright but like Yahtzee said, still nothing special.

Whoa whoa whoa -the impact of what Yahtzee said about the 1st best entry finally hit me- Yahtzee, did you really end a friendship over Undertale?!
My favourites this year, in no particular order:
- Firewatch
- Superhot
- Enter the Gungeon
- Orwell
- INSIDE
- Reigns
karatos the god of war Yeah, if they're good,
That's a pretty respectable list. I played most of those games (except Inside) and enjoyed them.
Firewatch was great up until the ending when it reveals that it's full of hot air.
GlassHalfFool I didn't mind the ending so much, but even then I would say the rest of the experience more than makes up for it.
Enter The Gungeon needs more atention!!

Smartfunnyandlazy We rented the game and were glad we did not actually buy it. I broke the game on the first cutscene, so I stopped playing it. My brother had a gamebreaking bug that kept him from even continuing the game, and my other brother just did not bother with it
Get on my level. I pre-ordered 2 copies of No Man's Sky.
I love that he couldn't say "Chihuahua with wheels descending a spiral staircase" without laughing.
upgraded on that voice quality?
I'm probably a bad person for how hard I laughed at the image of a dog in a doggy wheelchair falling down the stairs
Thank fuck SOMEONE realized Furi is better than Inside
Do you get to play as a giant blob monster in Furi? I didn't think so.
Kolbe Howard
Thank you, if my indie games don't have a giant nutsack in them from now on, 0/10
kingdancekiller I know right! Inside raised the nuts so high I don't think they'll ever be dropped again.
Do you duel sexy samurais in Inside?
mole2 many No but do you get drowned by creepy mermaid people? Hah! Gotcha!
you can nearly hear him laugh at the end about the dog descending the stair case. keep up the awesome work you are a champ. seriously you rock.
4:42 who's on that playboy cover
Just in case no one has found it yet... It's Ana Duarte...
Definitely been waiting for this!
Homefront: The Revolution merely exists just to play Timesplitters 2 again
Am I the only person that was super happy Furi made it so far? I thought no one else played it. I loved it.
I liked the new Doom game but its a shame there weren't that many games that were better than it :/
HORRIOR Battlefield one, Witcher 3 blood and wine, uncharted, Watchdogs 2 and the remasters which don't really count tho.
Corey M I meant this year. And watchdogs 2 isn't a good game.
HORRIOR Umm you do realise Bf1 and uncharted 4 came out this year and even tho Witcher came out last year the Blood And Wine expansion came out this year. Watchdogs might not be the best but it is a 6 or 7/10. This IS all my opinion btw.
HORRIOR and battlefield one is only mediocre.
Corey M I've never understood the buzz around uncharted, yeah they can write relatively good stories but if you strip out the cut scenes then the game becomes a set of basic shoot outs with piss easy platforming. doom is a far better game that has a variety of actually challenging shoot outs with ok platforming.
I thought it interesting that "GOODEST", once fully revealed had an visually pleasing and colorful gradient to it while "BLANDEST" was just a mixture of brown and gray lol
lol, after what a great game undertale was, i can see he is struggleing to understand that games like that only come every few years
Might I suggest: "No Man's Game of the Year".
So this would be top five games he disliked the least then?
Having seen every single Zero Punctuation at least once and many others multiple times over, at the very least I have spent 40.16667 hours watching this one show.
YEAH DOOM BOIIIIIIIIII
My favorite game of 2016 was definitely Furi.
Final Fantasy 15 is a close second along with The Last Guardian, because I'm a dog lover and Trico was the best pet in a video game since Red XIII and Yoshi.
So here we are... 365 days after everyones gushed about undertale... and I just bothered to pick up undertale
Tallen Smith
Play it blind, play it how YOU want.
Glhf
Just finished it, play as blind as possible. It's quite good.
kingdancekiller I plan to play it blind.
Kill everybody.
I would totally watch a chihuahua in a wheelchair descend a flight of circular stairs.
I see a distinct lack of Undertale hate... proud of you comments section!
Larsonthewolf Nobody cares about Undertale at this point. Haters or not, it's old news....
+Toonami4life look at History of Earthbound: From MOTHER to UNDERTALE? - A Brief History ----by the game theorists
Larsonthewolf No thanks, wasnt interested in mother, earthbound, or undertale. Just not my style...
+Toonami4life *face-palm* look st the comments section. Kinda puts a hole in your "Nobody cares" idea. especially since it was posted two weeks ago...
Larsonthewolf Alright, let me rephrase that...Nobody in the general gaming community cares. Of course the fans and people who played it care about it. But the rest of the community brushed it off...although thats mainly due to the rapid fanbase not shoving it in anyones faces anymore (thank god...)
Yes! I love these, thank you Yathzee!
Yahtzee's so in love with Undertale that he can't resist mentioning it in a second year's #1 spot.
Will he ever give it a proper review? I wanted to hear him extol its virtues and rip on its shit points. Surely everyone and their mother's played it by now. I doubt anyone's gone unspoiled.
thepersonwhocomentz He has already given it a full written review
where can I see this review?
thepersonwhocomentz www.escapistmagazine (dot) com/articles/view/video-games/columns/extra-punctuation/14860-Undertale-for-Best-Written-Game-2015
thepersonwhocomentz I haven't...
@@thepersonwhocomentz I miss Chiaki
Did I spot a 'doing awkard motion behind a cow' LBA2 reference? You my dear sir, deserve a cigar.
I don't know why but your voice sounds sorta off
What a funny, witty video from start to finish! LOL!
No Overwatch?! Good.
that last joke was written so well that even yahtzee couldn't say it without a chuckle
This does not sound like the same guy at all.
I like how you can hear him start to laugh at that last sentence. x3
So, Watch Dogs 2 was just average, then?
PsychicRadroach It's this bland type of good in the weirdest way possible. It's by no means a bad game but I've never gotten bored of a game quicker
PsychicRadroach He praised the gameplay while criticizing everything else.
It was very good IMO. I think gameplay is one of the most important things in games, and WD2 did that good.
do you? do you personally believe that gameplay is a key feature in video games?
Yahtzee is the one guy no one ever asked, "But how do you REALLY feel?" for fear that he may actually tell you.
are you OK you sound like a different person
Well he is living in Murica now. Maybe the drastic increase in sugar in his diet changed his speech patterns.
I Shot Marvin In The Face where the hell is Murica? Do you mean Morocco?
He means America.
Eero Lång but those don't even start with the same letter.
I know, but that's still what it means.
Thank you for adding 5 more games, and making the video shorter than last years. I don't know how you do it.
NOTIFICATION SQUAD! WHADDUP!
@5:36 "No worries, I'll just patch something in later."
Riggidy-riddigy-*REKT*!
2016 was a shit year for the world, but for games? no, games were awesome in 2016
eeeeeeeeh
Xcom 2, Civilization VI and Doom were basically the only games I didn't refund in that hopefully soon forgotten year.
And for movies involving Disney. Rogue One, Civil War, Zootopia, Doctor Strange...
They had gud year
Mordalon Got enough of Overwatch quickly.
"decent narrative experiences"
*shows Undertale*
L O L
Ludwig II
you can stop now, the hate train on undertale has lost alot of fuel already
+TheTacoMeta So you just assume I don't like
It just because everyone else does?
TheTacoMeta The train for Undertale in general ran out of fuel thanks to everyone practically fucking it. Just a fad that came and went...
Toonami4Life
Or it was an experience that we can now remember fondly without the rabid fan base making us feel ashamed for a what was a pretty good game or the hispter contrarian edge-lords that constantly love to shit on it.
I love the tension in the few seconds when you try to guess what game he's talking about
gets me #hard
that dog in a wheelchair on the spiral staircase.... now im on the floor and my chair is not under me
lol the games on a straight line spectrum bit was hilarious. Love your videos.
Hearing Yahtzee start to lose his composure and crack up at the very end was definitely the best part
u had me at "chuawa in a wheel chair descending a spiral staircase."
I have a challenge for you
Take a screenshot of any frame in which there are more than 3 entities on screen, then show the screenshot to someone who hasn't seen Zero Punctuation.
