Another great hike at TTSP. Hopefully you have some blood left after the mosquito 🦟 ambush.
For some reason I thought that James Baughn had fallen at the Sheppard Point, but I guess I remembered that wrong. Anyway it was a sad thing. I enjoyed his blog and always looked forward to the next one.
That observation point is not nearly as safe as the overlook deck that was in your last video. There are some sheer dropoffs along there. I think it may be even more so because when they built the Frisco railroad they blasted and removed a lot of rock to make room for the tracks. It left some high cliffs.
For some great drone footage of the quarry I suggest looking at the YT channel Life in Cape Girardeau. The north end of the quarry probably has a 200 foot cliff. There is a 575' elevation marker at the top of the hill, but the water level in the quarry is below the 400' map contour.

Maybe he did fall there? I was told that the fall happened at the point I went to. If I'm wrong, I'm definitely sorry for that mistake. But sad to see him go. He really was a big inspiration for me.

@@HikingWithShawn I think I'm probably the one mistaken. I used to follow the news on the SEMissourian website and remember being shocked to hear about it. I searched for news stories to find out exactly what happened and something made me think it was at the other trail. Anyway a great loss. I guess it goes to show that even someone as experienced as James obviously was in the outdoors can still have a tragic accident. Sorry if I misspoke.
