I am an actor at the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia. I had to play the theremin on stage in the play "Elizaveta Bam". It was an amazing feeling of something magical and high-tech at the same time. Playing this instrument always added a huge amount of happiness to me.
While watching I kept wondering if that was what Jimmy Page used. After watching the whole video you confirmed that it is. Thank you for covering this part of music history!!! 💙
I literally just picked up a copy of Switched on Bach at a thrift store earlier this week. It’s a wonderful album. It’s my second copy, I found one 3 years ago the beginning of September as well. I guess early fall is early electronica season! 😂
One of the most fascinating, wonderfully weird instruments ever! My son has gotten quite fond of the theremin's sound and actively looks for music that makes use of it!
If you want to cover synths it would be cool if you look into the counterpoints to Bob Moog and "East Coast Synthesis", at the same time Don Buchla was creating more experimental sounds making "west coast style synths", this was then followed by Yamaha and the digital revolution of the DX7. Modern production essentially is a fusion of all of these mindsets into a collection of tools.
That “east coast” and “west coast” dichotomy was made up by Make Noise as a marketing tactic in recent years. Nobody thought of it that way in the 1970s.
Shout out to Dr. Madd Vibe (Angelo Moore of Fishbone). His use of the theremin inspired me to use electric paint, microcontrollers, and computer coding to teach high school students about theremins.
Incredible, i believe some very old bands like Kraftwerk & The Beach Boys might have also used the same instrument cause heard similar sounding tones in some of their songs like _"I Just Wasn't Made For These Times"_ & _"Neon Lights"_
I learned to play the therimin while playing in a rock band whose front man played the bagpipes. It was built by an eccentric old farmer out of spare parts. It took some explaining going through airport security. The unusual black plywood box with an antenna and weird electronics inside. And also you heard that right. Bagpipes and theremin in the same band. It was the 90s. We just tried things. 😊
This is such a great video when I heard Led Zeppelin whole Lotta love as a kid I knew I had to get myself a Thurman. I’ve had one ever cents, and one of the coolest instruments out there.
Anybody who has worked with high frequency electronics knows how it works. Calibrating that stuff is almost impossible because any move you make has some effect.
Yess it was a Truly Amazing Invention and Opened The Door to The Synthesizer, And May I Say You are One of The Most Beautiful Women I've Ever Seen 😘😘💘💘💘💘
The opening song on Portishead’s first album has always stood out to me for its iconic theremin usage

I watched Erica Badu use a theremin on stage at Afropunk this year.

I love that it's playing the air. I also loved the name of the instrument, cool to learn it's from a surname.

Alright Now ☺☺😎👊💯💯
The Theremin is that which binds us through time.

The Beach Boys used the theremin on Good vibrations (1966)
The Beach Boys used an electro-theremin which isn't actually a theremin it's closer to a synth.
Awesome vid!

amazing story, very cool
My sister's cat is named after Clara Rockmore
augmented reality can really help beginners to learn the theremin easily.

kid me reminds of the Ben10 theme song lol

You look like Laura Gemser. Time to go JO
Please stop using it to create alien-themed music, we don't like that. 👽😒
spooky yes, alien no?
Actually, ghosts also hate the sound. It's just the living humans that like it.
@@jurjenbos228 True. 😔
I really love musical instruments of all types, but the theramin is down the list with bagpipes for me.
Wait.... so it's pronounced Moag, like woah, and not Mooog, like a cow moo?! Well this is against everything I've heard in my life! 🤦♂️
probably the most annoying and pretentious of all electronic musical instruments, IMO
Sounds like you haven’t dug into it beyond a surface level.
Worst video ever
why
