  • In this video I will do a deep dive into the Canon EOS R8 for bird photography. Specifically, we are going to go through all the buttons and dials, as well as all pertinent options in the menu system and quick control system. I will also spend a lot of time explaining the amazing, top-of-the-line, EOS iTR AFX autofocus system and show you key modifications to make it and the autofocus areas (aka, AF points, AF boxes, AF areas) perform even better!

Very well explained, I come from the Canon R6 M1 and got the R8 as my lighter 2nd camera hoping to keep my R6 more for heavy usage or gigs and R8 my everyday camera. I found many new ideas that I've never seen before in other deep-dive videos and I like your focusing method. I had the dual back-button focusing method (one set for spot and one for subject detection) but I found it tiring for my hands to hold the buttons all the time especially in vertical portrait orientation. With your new method, I can have the camera default to subject detection but still have a quick way to disable it as needed with the AF-ON. Setting up the DPAD as the joystick replacement is a great find too. +subscribed

Does the viewfinder DOF preview uses more battery by keeping the lens aperture closed to the right aperture for the preview?

Detailed video explaining pretty much everything! I have R8 + RF100-500. Do you know if the 'focus ring' can be customized to some setting such as iso (since I do not use it for manual focusing)?

Yes, you can set the focus ring up to change ISO. It's just in such a weird spot on the RF100-500mm (to close to the camera) that its not easily accessed. I need my left hand to hold the heavier lens I use, so for me it's a no go.

@@lets_go_birding9096 There might be a confusion so I elaborate: in RF100-500 there are four rings (from camera to the front) 1. control ring (White), 2. manual focus ring (Black), 3. tightening ring (W) 4. zoom ring (B). I already customized (1) with aperture setting. But I cannot find the settings to customize (2). Any ideas?
I saw this quick reel (ruclips.net/user/shorts3CZ0FENyrfY?feature=share) where it shows 4 settings, but my camera-lens combo shows only 3 customization setting in the "Customize Dials" menu! I'm wondering if - the manual focus ring (2) can be customized (I never use manual focus!) & if yes, how... ?
      Thanks for your time 🙂

I’m wondering on the AF menu (1) you have focus mode on your menu. My R8 does not have a focus mode. Do I have to access this somewhere else?

It seems that exposure +DOF is not available with adapted ef lenses.
