Good video my Guy. I have the X3 for awhile now and it's good for daytime. I purchased the One-Inch RS 360 for day and especially night time filming on my motorcycle.
I had the X2 for two years and the X3 is a great update for it. I'm not doing much 'action' (no sea, no snow, no mountains overhere 😅). That's why I'm glad with my new 1-inch edition and the far better photo quality compared. The sensor of the 1-inch edition is 4 times larger (not 2 times as you say in the video). The wonderful resolution of the X3 is a great selling point, but the end result photos are only 18mp. They use pixel binning where 4 subpixels create 1 larger pixel (72:4=18). The 4 subpixels take in more light (and thus produce less grain), but the photos are still 18mp. By the way, I haven't had my 1-inch edition overheated yet. Just recorded an interval for 2 hours in full sun. No problems (knocking on wood) 😅
Thanks for this comparison video. The 1-inch 360 quality is SOooo much clearer! The video is beautiful, and the audio is significantly better fidelity. If you’re after quality, then the 1-inch is a no-brainer. If you’re looking more for an “action cam” that is lightweight and can get submersed in water, then the X3 is the obvious choice.
Thanks for the very short and sweet summary. Helped me make the call to go the X3. I really really want the noise control quality of the 1 inch, but as a cyclist and biker the slightly more rugged and slim profile of the x3 probably suits my needs more.
Yea the resolution destroys the 1” for me though. It’s insane and makes no sense. It has less resolution and a fraction of the resolution choices as the X3. I don’t get it
I really want the 1ich version but the barely noticable difference in daylight makes it very hard to justify spending nearly 2x for it... there is just no way that 1inch sensor would produce such a pixel soup at output. It must be limited mbps throughput or bitrate options for saving in the app are not sufficient

Thank you for the video and love your channel🤗 My take on these two cameras is very simple as I have used them both: they are 95% similar with the 1-inch definitely shooting a bit sharper video. However, dynamic range is horrible and all highlights are permanently blown. For some people this is not an issue and aesthetically they don't care. I do and I can't stand it, specially for a camera at this price point and supposedly with much higher quality sensors. Using HDR video mode on the X3 the image quality is far more pleasing to watch and balanced, not to mention, the audio quality is equally far far better than in the 1-inch. On the photography side, aside from low-light scenarios, the X3 again produces better results with far more detail and sharpness. However, out of the camera, the 72MP images tend to look a bit soft and can benefit from some extra sharpening and editing for optimal results. And of course, shooting RAW will yield the best possible quality specially for editing flexibility. In the end, both cameras are very good, whichever one you personally prefer and have more fun using will be the right one for you. Thanks again for your always awesome content❤️❤️❤️

Yep, good summary. Thinking I'm going to have to go the 1" for the photo and low light stuff, but that's particular to my use case. I'm boggled that they haven't enabled the single lens shooting with the 1" via a firmware update yet!
because you forced to buy the x3 then 😂 In my opinion the ONE RS kills them all! You can attach the 1inch 360modul to the one rs . I use it for MTB and i owned them all , the X2 or X3 is a weird size for a actioncam
Hi insta if you are here? The inch (which i have) currently is not worth the bump in price. A histogram built into the camera in manual is needed. To get the best out of it without fluffing with the phone app. 10 bit colour A higher shutter speed. In bright sunlight it still clips the highlights. Also ease in and out in the mobile app. + Higher bitrate (inconjuction with 10 bit) Cheers insta

Thanks for the video comparison. The once inch edition image quality isn't dramatically better than the x3 to justify the significant price difference.
My biggest beef with the 1-inch RS is that it doesn’t at all resolve the periodic smudging in low light due (presumably) to the image stabilization algorithm. I would’ve thought with the lower noise the 1-inch RS could’ve avoided that particular low-light bugaboo.
Thanks to you i ordered the X3. I have the original (that I will put on Marketplace now) that I greatly enjoyed for many years for my 360 vacation captures. Many vacarion 360 videos on my channel. The compactness amd less noticeable size is key when using in public.
As usual, clear with just facts and no hyperbole. From your examples here, seems to me, IF your target is RUclips, after it has done its compression thing to the video, I really cannot see the difference. So i think just price alone means the X3 is the better choice let alone its other advantages.😂. By the way you need to give amazon aff links to the camera as well as insta as there are many people, me included, who will NOT buy off of insta's website under any circumstances, as, let alone the possibility of bad service, we in spain, europe would lose our by law min 2 year garantee. Also you need to use, for amazon aff links, there global link not just link to the us store as you are doing.

Nice comparison, I have the 1" but recently bought the X3 as a backup. One tip I can give is if you use the rubber lens cover wash it and let it air dry, that way it's clean inside. When in the field and the cover is removed put it inside a zip lock bag so that it remains clean. This way a scratched lens is avoided.
hi, your input could be crucial for me - how noticable is the 1inch sensor improvement in day to day footage? Not knowing how people export their videos + youtube compression makes it very hard to see the benefits of the rs1. I need somebody sane who knows what they are doing to advise me. So far I have not been convinced by the quality to price ratio and am leaning towards the x3. Thanks in advance!

So I have the X3. I love it, I do however wish for better quality photos and video. I am infatuated the 360 camera and content. I love the VR content as well. Like the Oculus 2, the x3 is a bit soft in the focus department. I may end up with both.

Is anyone here having issues with the colors with the RS 1 inch with low light cloudy, sunrise or sunset shots. I HATE the color issues. The warmth is gone with low light and it just looks off. Strange blue green hues that I can't fix in post production. Also it did really weird stuff with my eyes in low light. Like red eye issues, which is so weird for I can't get the warmth to come out anywhere else. I want to love the RS 1 inch to create my VRGetaways, but I am shocked at the weird color issues I am dealing with even in Log mode (or especially in Log mode) in low light. All low light shots are city shots, and not outdoor nature low light shots. @Insta360 PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND FIX.

I found using the 1-inch to be much less frustrating to work with than my Kandao Qoocam 8K, especially annoying is mine has the issue where on the 8K the two lenses are slightly different calibration
Enjoyed the comparison !! The 1” though does have a me mode - It’s that no one has either found it yet or just has not commented on it. It’s when in post one selects multiView. The secondary view is in me view and there is no option to turn off - I wish there was !!
Does anyone know if there is a 360 camera available that automatically adjusts to the levels of light to capture the best possible quality? I have a Insta360 One X2 and the auto mode only works well in daylight. I often shoot group skate videos between daylight to dark and it's not feasible to mess around trying to change settings in between (as I'd loose the rest of the group!). I've tried to manually leave it in a setting that works well at night but then the daylight footage is terrible. I've heard from another skater who has the One X3 that they have the exact issue. I thought the 1-inch addition might be the answer but not if it overheats after 2- minutes.

You left out the main thing I’d like to know. Audio. I could hear, early in your side-by-side section, that the built-in audio is noticeably better in the 1-inch. However, what about using the Rode or DJI audio recorders with these? I believe I saw another video showing a special clip for mounting the Rode in the ‘invisible’ side zone so you could clip recorders onto a couple people and get great audio right on the 1-inch. Is this possible with the X3? Quality audio is such a huge factor in videos. I’d love to year you “appendix” to this video covering this issue. Thanks!
I wouldn't count on X3 to be "fully waterproof". I just destroyed my X2 submerging it under water (2ft) properly closed. I doubt X3 has improved on their "water proofing" design. They don't even admit they have a flaw in their waterproofing design for X2. Great disapointemnt with their product and company. If you want to take the chance and have to pay $200+ on having your X3 "fixed" when it gets water damage.. be my guest. Be warned!
I'm on a fence between 1-inch and QooCam 8K (QC8K). I know you had QC8K before, in your personal experience which camera creates better quality 360 videos to be watched in VR Headset like Quest2? I have original One R 5.7K and I would love to see how much better the quality of these 2 other cameras so that I can upgrade my setup. QC8K is almost 3 years old, but its spec seems to be better on paper than 1inch model. Thank you.

When I take a 360 photo I tend to hide behind a tree or something, but then I'm often too far away and I lose the connection with the camera. You give up way too much for the 1” sensor with almost identical resolution. You literally only have 4 360 resolutions to choose from & none of them support anything higher than 30fps. You cant even record in in 1080p 60…I cant understand why this sacrifice was necessary.

1/2 inch sensor is 51mm2 and 1 inch sensor is 116mm2

There’s not a single 60fps resolution option on the one inch

In all the comparison reviews I have seen, the X3 seems to have the better looking images in most cases.

The biggest difference is the low light picture quality. X3 has more noise in the picture.

Does the one inch allow extraction of 4K video? Extraction of HD on the original One X was the most useful feature. Nice to mimic drone and jib shots.

No it is not. The only thing you cant use with it is the bullet thing because its too heavy

You can connect the 4k module. No word yet on single lens mode.

You left out the main thing I’d like to know. Audio. I could hear, early in your side-by-side section, that the built-in audio is noticeably better in the 1-inch. However, what about using the Rode or DJI audio recorders with these? I believe I saw another video showing a special clip for mounting the Rode in the ‘invisible’ side zone so you could clip recorders onto a couple people and get great audio right on the 1-inch. Is this possible with the X3? Quality audio is such a huge factor in videos. I’d love to year you “appendix” to this video covering this issue. Thanks!

I wouldn't count on X3 to be "fully waterproof". I just destroyed my X2 submerging it under water (2ft) properly closed. I doubt X3 has improved on their "water proofing" design. They don't even admit they have a flaw in their waterproofing design for X2. Great disapointemnt with their product and company. If you want to take the chance and have to pay $200+ on having your X3 "fixed" when it gets water damage.. be my guest. Be warned!

I'm on a fence between 1-inch and QooCam 8K (QC8K). I know you had QC8K before, in your personal experience which camera creates better quality 360 videos to be watched in VR Headset like Quest2? I have original One R 5.7K and I would love to see how much better the quality of these 2 other cameras so that I can upgrade my setup. QC8K is almost 3 years old, but its spec seems to be better on paper than 1inch model. Thank you.

@@alexgoriatchenkov Original version of it (not enterprise) these days goes for about 500. It has 1-inch sensors.

When I take a 360 photo I tend to hide behind a tree or something, but then I'm often too far away and I lose the connection with the camera. Is there a workaround to be able to be some distance from the camera? Any idea?

You give up way too much for the 1” sensor with almost identical resolution. You literally only have 4 360 resolutions to choose from & none of them support anything higher than 30fps. You cant even record in in 1080p 60…I cant understand why this sacrifice was necessary.
1-Inch 360 $$$$$ not sure if it is worth the price.

Also, awesome review, as so many of yours are and I'm still stuck deciding whether the X3 is worth is over my one x2. The one rs one inch whatever it's called is now out of the running, as I am a bullet time fanboy.
