Yes - Juan Pablo showed tremendous will power to have a stove and be surrounded by woods for 62 days and not have a fire. And I loved how he was so happy to walk on the ice! His 30-yr-old body was a distinct advantage in the final showdown with Karie Lee. I loved all 3 of the finalists and knew I'd be happy with any of them winning - two Canadians and an older person meant this 62-yr-old Canadian was gonna be happy. But, I really was rooting for Karie Lee because of how she really embraced Labrador and the challenge - she gave it her all, and then some. And, it is definitely time for a woman to be the last person in the challenge. I al soooo looking forward to Alone:Frozen and more Labrador adventures!! I hope all contestants do well and we see multiple folk achieve 50 days, including you! :-)

I was also rooting hard for Kari Lee. With her age, drive and the pure joy she showed being out there, along with vast knowledge and skills, I really wanted her to emerge victorious. Alas, similar to what we saw with Woniya vs. Jordan, it was simply not to be. JP came in much heavier than Kari. I saw an interview with him where he said he was drinking basically straight olive oil and gallons of milk to put on weight before the show. And his conservation strategy, while boring, was very effective in terms of maximizing his reserves. To sit there in subzero temps with no food and no fire for weeks at a time takes a level of mental strength that is just incomprehensible to average people. I turn on the heat if it gets below 64 inside! JP was singularly focused on winning while Kari was more experiential. Both JP and Jordan could have gone even longer, while Kari and Woniya were spent, and staying any longer would have been dangerous for them. I was so thrilled for Woniya getting her redemption on Frozen, she is a spectacular human, and now, a fairly wealthy spectacular human.

To be strong enough to take charge of your destiny the way you did was inspiring. I'm so looking forward to Alone: Frozen and your processes in that region and on that journey. Thanks for another great recap - I'm expecting you will recap A:F too..?!

J.P amazed me. He had energy to run back to his shelter to get the camera while the others at that time could only walk slow and unstable to boot. And at that med check his body did not look deteriorated at all. I would love to see an interview with him.

A BIG shoutout to each and every contestant! I felt this season had lots of creativity as evidenced by Juan Pablo and his unique approach to fast for the final 20 days, drink unboiled water, have (almost) no fire...to Adam and his Halloween skit and his creative windows, Tom's hair dyeing to make fish flies, and so many more. I also LOVED seeing a bit more about each person's approach to their time in Labrador. There are some people who think this is merely a game of who gets the most food...but we see the one who fasted won. This shows us the amazing power of one's mental, emotional, creative and spiritual approach!! I was rooting for Karie Lee to be the first female winner and I saw her every day have such an AMAZING attitude and reverence for the land. Respect for Teimojin and his decision on how to leave as his body began to be in slow motion. I truly see each person as a winner for the lessons learned and the rich experience they had. Thank you all for sharing that with us. Thanks so much for your enriching recaps Woniya! Can't wait for the Frozen season.

Woniya is the most articulate and well spoke contestants from this show, as well as one of the most intelligent. Companies like Leatherman and Silky saws would be wise to have her on their promotional staff- and even the Alone series itself. She has a lot of common sense and isn't an over the top nature and anti-hunting focused.

I didn't get a time stamp, but at one point you asked why Juan Pablo didn't use the clean cans to build the stove in the first place. I can think of two hypothetical answers:
    1) Maybe he didn't have clean cans. Maybe they were all about equal, but the ones not in the stove had been used over a fire outside the shelter earlier in his time there, so the paint residue had burned off before he repurposed them for Stove 2.0.
    2) Maybe there really were some clean and some not clean cans initially, and he put the not clean cans in the stove so he could use the clean cans for food collection/storage/preparation, figuring that the paint residue would burn off in the stove. But then he didn't use the stove for two months, so he wasn't thinking about the paint residue that still needed to burn off.
These are obviously just guesses. I wonder if they have more video that didn't make the final cut where he discusses the issue in more depth.

    • @annebizcoach

It would be interesting to see contestants usual body weight, how much they put on pre-competition, how much calories they ate and the pounds lost and % of body weight lost. Terry and Tom appeared to have lower BMI when pulled at days 42 and 43, than Juan Pablo at 78. I am an RN who helps people do detoxes...so this whole "what the body can do and how it responds" fascinates me. Not that a detox is about starving. I've appreciated your input and Teimojin's...as well as other contestants.

Early in the show I got the impression that Juan Pablo has been through some really tough times and this challenge wasn’t the hardest thing he has done. I think he was going to fast until he could do ice fishing. I have never seen two contestants truly love the environment like Juan and Karie. Especially Karie. She really loved being there. I was astounded at the beauty of that place. As I watched I kept thinking “ I wish they could bring a camera!”.

I felt like the editors did a bad job showcasing everyones real skills. Especially Karie Lee. She didn't get much screen time in the beginning and it was difficult for me to really connect with her. Then suddenly she's the final 3.
Juan Pablo felt so monotone and negative to me haha. He's definitely really skilled tho and definitely deserved to win but he wasn't my favorite.
They did a good job with how they showcased Teimojin. I felt they lacked that same editing for the other contestants.

    • @BuckskinRevolution

Yea, the editing can be inconsistent. I feel like they do that often wi tj the runners up so you don't have them in the front of your mind at first, then get surprised when they are out for a long time. They definitely edit to bios suspense. They did to w same thing with me on season 6. I had a lot less screen time than anyone else in the first many episodes. They didn't even show me til day 9, episode 3. Drove me crazy because so May important things happened before that!
I liked their editing overall though, felt it gave a good sense of the people out there. I always compare the seasons to my own, and feel the editing is a lot better now

    Once again, nicely done.
Some of the things Juan Pablo did are confusing. Drinking cold water seems like it would take a lot of calories to warm up to body temperature. If you have a beautiful stove like that, why not use it?
I'm most definitely in the good doctor's camp. I liked his spirit. Such a bummer about his chipped tooth. Hopefully he can get that repaired. All he needed were a few more grouse. Oh well, that's the way it goes.
But Juan Pablo does have absolute iron determination even if I don't agree with all of his methods. Laying in a sleeping bag for all of that time with nothing to do takes incredible fortitude.
I'm looking forward to part 2.
    Cheers from Alaska

As always great video! You mentioned the tarps that are issued? Is that in addition to the ten items? Then you said Adam brought a tarp as his extra item? Sorry a lot of questions. : ) I was wondering that same thing about Teimojin using the snow. Had no idea about the scorching thing. Day 62 and having his first fire?? I thought I had heard that wrong when I was watching the show but nope. That was crazy. He was very strategic how he did everything but being a painter and seeing the smoke come off the cans.....ouch. That was not good. This last episode was really great. I like the determination that Juan Pablo showed . I am also deeply disturbed by his actions .
This is a show about being alone, and using the skills of survival to outlast the other contestants .
I'm not contesting the Juan Pablo did use certain skills ("starvation") to outlast the others .
I'm sure - IF this is the road the producers want to go down - this will be the last time I watch the show .
I also feel Roland, season seven, epitomizes what the show was intended to be, as were others from earlier seasons .

The weather that JP “slept” through was worse than what was coming. Going from cold to wet and back again. That might have been an on the fly choice. Or maybe, having so much experience, knows something about best surviving in a cold environment with few resources. Something how one’s body needs almost complete rest to most efficiently shift to the next phase. As someone said, it seemed like JP was just hitting his stride.

Juan just made a mockery of the whole show. Skill or ability doesn't really matter. It is just a calorie game. Eat as much as possible in the first month then shut down and starve everyone else out. A correct but just stupid concept. Aside from the woke idocicy of putting contestants up there who have a poor skill set, this is clearly why the third and fourth place finishers just walked off. They where intelligent enough not to get into a starvation contest. From season one that is all it is.
