Hi, Folks. First up, it is very hard to make a model of an excavator, bulldozer or track loader with rubber tracks that has the same or even similar center of gravity and traction characteristics as the real thing. Rubber tracks do not have the same weight as steel tracks and have vastly different slide potential. Using such models as demo pieces can be helpful but can also be misleading. One of the most important safety 'roolz' when loading or unloading heavy equipment, be it on rubber tires or on steel tracks or wheels, is to keep any and all attachments as low as possible to the ground or deck during the process. For rossco686 - I have personally climbed an 8-foot high VERTICAL wall on an iron ore stockpile with a bob-tailed, angle blade Cat D9G - at night. Some folks may scream. "BOOOLSCHEEEYITTT", but I KNOW that I did it and I could care less what others might think. I have also had a Cat D9N dozer on a MEASURED 43 degree side slope, not once but TWICE and it showed NO signs of lifting the high track. In fact, on one occasion, I was turning across the slope to the down-slope side and the high track was still driving through the turn, which means it had traction. In BOTH cases, I had VERY GOOD ground under me. I DO NOT recommend trying these 'tricks', either at home or out on the job, but it can give some idea of just how stable these machines can be - - - - UNDER GOOD CONDITIONS. To IUOE NTF, thank you for posting this video - hard to place too much emphasis on safety. The WHOLE purpose of safety is to send home at shift's end the same number of people who worked on the shift in the same state of health in which they commenced the shift. Just my 0.02. Why don't any of these fucking videos actually show what a piece of equipment can and cannot climb before it rolls backwards? How steep a grade can an excavator climb with boom down stick out before it tips backwards???
