The Two Ronnies are British legends . Massive in the 70’s and 80’s , when there was only like 3 channels on british tv . The whole family would sit down together and watch it . Much loved and missed .

In the 50s we had general stores where many items were on sale including some foods.

That was funny. You can still find hardware stores like that in odd places around the country.

Just after you stopped the clip, there's an explanation of the "Bill hooks" it may be worth checking they out just to clarify the skit.
There are thousands of clips of these 2 British comedy legend's silly songs, wordplay skits, all written by the big guy Ronnie Barker, a master of the innuendo. 😅

Bit of a shame you stopped watching. At the end Ronnie Barker explained how he had thought of a much better ending to the sketch

Should have waited and done one comment 😁. That was a foot pump for blowing up car tyres. Also 'bill hooks' -> b*ll*cks. You might like some 'Morecambe and wise ' - andre previn sketch for example. Comedy from simpler times.

He said later he did not like the bill hooks ending. He later though of having a 'generous' young woman come out to reveal a drawer labeled 'Knockers'

@@UKreactions I remember watching this clip when it was first broadcast, and it took me a few seconds to 'get it'. Ronnie Barker himself felt the ending was a bit obscure and a little crude. When they performed the sketch at the London Palladium, they had a much better punchline, if you watch the remainder of the clip, all will be explained.

Hi. I like you and long ago subscribed but ROOKIE MISTAJE. lol
ALWAYS play to the end as ot WAS them and there was an explanation and an alternative for that weak ending and you DID see them and even asked if it was them so why didn't you invest 15 seconds to see?? lol They were, arguably, our greatest Double Act and, certainly, the cleverest.
That was real gardening equipment like "Fork Handles and Hoes by the way.

You stopped the video too soon, you should have continued watching! When the skit ended and the screen transitioned in the brightly lit studio, that was the Two Ronnies many years later. The one who wrote the sketch, Ronnie Barker, was not happy with the ending of that particular skit, but then went on to reveal a much funnier ‘punch line’ that they performed later.

You have to watch "Encyclopedia salesman" by the Two Ronnies. It's arguably their best skit ever.

He asked for "Fork 'andles," not "Four candles." Londoners tend to drop their aitches.

I guess you have to be much older to get the jokes here. I have learned some British things over the decades to understand the bits and terms, though what a billhook was just came last year. I have always been on the farmers side in this one.
