May the Lord bless you for these talks. I don't have the ability to watch these live but I make sure to fit these in when I can. As a mom without a support network I value the wisdom of a mom who has been there before me. Thank you!
OK forgive me just a couple comments the 1st not really to do with the topic.. so the translation of the word “ take“ communion drives me crazy every time I hear it (so it’s not just you Christine) it’s just a general use of the word in Greek it literally means to “receive” NOT to take we receive a gift we don’t take it so as I was listening that just stood out to me and I wanted to tell you that probably should just tell you in person and not on your comments but a point i wanted to make.. another thing as I learned from my very wise elder years ago is if you’re easily distracted or your focus has been taken away because we allow it then try to go to a place where you are not looking at anyone but the altar! So we also have to make a point that attending a Monastery isNOT A parish so people need to understand that! Now that being said, the services should all be honored in the same way no matter where we are! However, we must remember that we’re all in the ER together we’re all sick and we have different needs of healing so if someone in the ER next to you is in pain do you go and comfort them or do you cringe and OMG this person is bothering me we have to have discernment and love obviously -and I feel at times I’m too helpful and I can be distracting &sometimes I think I’m helping and I’m not! There is a time and place for everything and people can get frazzled I think we need to be very understanding and always look through the lens of the other and communicate clearly at an appropriate time and manner with each other especially to these moms with one or seven children alike👍🏻🙏🏻☦️Theos xores
Hi Sophia, Yes, forgive me it is more proper to say "receive" rather than "take". I don't hear myself even say it because I am used to hearing it. In the livestream from the following week "More on Kids in Church", I discuss the issue of getting distracted by other people during services. I shared the story of St. Porphyrios and the radio salesman. Ultimately, we are responsible for what we do. And as you say if we are having a difficult time paying attention because of other people around us, then we need to work on that. Maybe by moving to another spot, closing our eyes and trying to pray more, cultivating good thoughts about others, or all of the above. Thanks for listening and commenting Sophia.❤
All very helpful advice! Sometimes my child will be very wound up and have a hard time calming down. I was wondering what you think about caressing a child's head, scratching their back lightly as a way to keep them calm during the service sometimes? Would this be too distracting from the purpose of coming to church? My thinking was that they would associate church with happy feelings if I do this. But I'm unsure if it's okay, being a convert.
great question! I think it is absolutely ok to give physical affection during church to help settle them down. As you mentioned it also helps them to associate church with love and goodness. I will address this more on the next livestream.
