  • The Rural Commune of Azla is located near the city of Tetouan in northern Morocco. Its beach extends over a length of 1.5 km from Cap Mazari in the south to the sandstone cliff of Sidi Abdessalam del Bhar in the north. After having filmed this video in February of the year 1996, I decided thereafter, to carry out a project of personal investigation concerning the geomorphology of this small littoral, to study its natural environment, and its economic activities in order to deduce the causes that have led to the degradation of the beach and the decline of fishing, which in fact constitute the two essential factors for the economic and social development of this municipality. From my investigations, I can cite three main types of potential effects that would affect this coastal space:
    An acceleration of coastal erosion;
    A risk of submersion with a very high flood level (maximum 10m). Sea level rise will be very high between Cabo Negro and Azla;
    A saline intrusion would affect up to half the area of the aquifers.
    All of these impacts will affect the biodiversity and ecosystems of this coastline, as well as the socio-economic activities of the region.
    I would like you to participate in this study with your points of view and your assessments and I would be very grateful to you.
