  • Neonatal jaundice is one of the most important topics in neonatal practice. Breastfed babies have a slightly higher risk of jaundice, related to the mild dehydration and other factors during the initial few days when lactogenesis is established (breastfeeding jaundice). In some babies, the jaundice reaches a late peak and persists longer related to factors in breastmilk, mainly the presence of Beta glucuronidase enzyme that might increase the re-circulation of bilirubin from the gut. I discuss these issues in this short video, followed by a brief discussion.
