He's just smiling at the beginning yet despite that eerie sound que and camera zoom to imply he's a ticking time bomb/nuke, you could still go into this raw and know there's something vile and boiling within this super-powered "Hero". . .

They're the audience stand-ins, meant to be experiencing all this craziness the same way the audience does, for the first time, and usually needing to be brought up to speed. They're the characters who're as in the dark to most of the secrets and plot twists as we are. I can definitely see how that would make them feel bland, for sure. It's a fine line to walk when writing those kinds of characters.

This show is still absolutely insane, even after two seasons. How has there not been a spinoff show for this yet? Show's like The Boys and Jupiter's Legacy don't get the appreciation they deserve and always get underrated.
I wouldn't say the boys is underrated, more just a show that's not for everyone, for obvious reasons 😂 but the fans love it, it's got a huge, huge fan base. Wasn't keen on legacy. Also, there is a spinoff series in the works of the boys and an animated show sometime before season 3 😁

Man, this is my favorite show by a long shot. I love Anthony Starr in this and he was almost just as great in Banshee but he has this menace that just oozes out of the screen. You can tell he is just one second or so from going full-on psycho.
As much as I love Homelander because he's a psycho, my favorite is The Deep because he's such a dork. The show just shits on him and it's funny as hell.
The Boys, while a really entertaining show is not so great on origin story. Jupiter Legacy was heavy on origin (aka back story) and while story-wise it was really great, some say "epic", people as I a focus group and Netflix execs proved that what the world wants is a story more relatable to the mental instability the planet is experiencing due to global systemic failure. I was interested in seeing who is behind the mask as well. What we can expect is more of the platform to celebrate the anti-hero as well as the very subtle anti-villain we experience in Hughie Campbell. In our universe if someone we claim to love was murdered like Robbin was we would expect the person to become the Supervillain of The Seven. But as we see The Seven and most Supes in that universe are morally unstable the people we expect to be bad are also equally unstable. Its a little nuance that keeps us all watching. The show would be nothing without Anthony Starr.

For some reason when it shows homelanders face with the flashes it somehow scares me, even more than omni man cause this is essentially a hero who’s whole life is just a marketing scheme, and his mind is just about to snap, this isn’t a what if superheroes turn bad it’s a what if a superheroes life is just meant for money
