    I'd change 8 to try to have fun... Monster hunter is a lot of games wrapped up in 1. Meta chasing is 1 way to play, but there are tons of goofy, fun ways to play the game that have nothing to do with meta. There are even bomb only runs that increasingly funny. Your palicos can also be fun, you can run builds that can have them basically solo some monsters, and watching them work can be really interesting. Don't worry about what people on the internet say, gear-up, and enjoy yourself...

      Can't exactly enjoy myself if you follow people's advice and still are at a wall and can't progress - oneshot or two shot no matter what, people joining on hunts doesn't help. Can't farm because hunts and even expeditions use more resources than I gain back. Best part being because of trying to learn MH I am incapable of playing any other game now so I'm fked.

    • @GrimDMasterMind
      @GrimDMasterMind 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@XxWarmancxX Wait, what? There are armour skills specifically aimed at maximising gathering potential. Expeditions should never cost more than you gain, you might need to look into botany, and the rock skills, as well as those skills geared towards increased drops. If you hit a wall, that is a great opportunity to try a new build, and chip away at that wall until it breaks.

    • @Rudeuslul

      Bro the video title is “How to get good” not “how to have fun” there are people out there who genuinely wanna get better at the game it doesnt mean they arent having fun. If i follow your advice im never gonna get better at the game and idk why people hate on people who “chase meta” who cares if ppl want the best gear? Like its meta for a reason it makes the game fun chasing the best armor and weapons thats the point of MHW kill the monsters and create powerful gear/weapons with their body parts.

    • @GrimDMasterMind
      @GrimDMasterMind 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@Rudeuslul You get good, by learning how to win... How to win includes having the resources not to loose...You gain resources by gathering or buying, many of which can't be bought... If you are going to gather, you might as well do it properly.

    A good tip with fights is positioning, an example is being beside a rathian compared to being in front of her since here attacks are much faster and more instant than the one on the sides meaning you have a better chance of reacting to her attacks

  • @zachg.4251
    @zachg.4251 6 месяцев назад +9

    A big tip is to use tailraiders whenever possible (especially the troupers, gajalaka, and boaboa). They won't kill the monster for you without a seriously specialized build but they're a huge help when it comes to pacing by taking the monster off of you for a moment.

    Take a break when frustrated. Only play the weapon that suit you. Maybe watch or re-watch class videos. DO THE FRIGGIN CLUTCH CLAW QUEST which explains both tenderize and FLINCH SHOT for free knockdown and head part break! Enjoy the game. Dont be shy about gathering. Read up about loadouts and which items to use on hunts.

    Great tips!
    One thing I've found that's helpful to me with learning new weapons is restarting a new save file each time I try a new one (file 2 is my experimentation file and gets restarted regularly). This lets me feel the early game progression of each weapon individually, makes me use "tutorial" monsters to learn positioning and timing, and makes me target different armor each time for relevant skills. Then after I've practiced through a bunch of the story, I go back to my main save file and make an endgame build for the weapon.
    Two caveats:
    1. The cutscenes make this a long process.
    2. Some weapons aren't really comfortable without certain armor skills that don't come easy early in the game (such as Mighty Bow skill, or Reload Speed/Recoil Down for bowguns).

    That last tip is a big one for me, my biggest wall right now is the Alatreon Special Assignment. I've lost count of how many times I've attempted it and I have only come close to beating him, (at least I think) even gotten many S.O.S responses with a full team and have still been carted fully. The experience allowed me to beat the second Assignment where you fight a halved HP Alatreon to get to Fatalis, but that first one is still looming over my head. Ended up getting enough parts from it to make and upgrade the Glaive though XD

    I faced Fatalis for the first time this weekend and he put me over the edge. I turned off the game and while eating dinner I contemplated going back to sunbreak. Then I emptied my thoughts and went into a state of pure enlightenment. After dinner I fired up the ps5 and proceeded to cart without frustration to Fatalis. I was learning the fight at a geometric rate. Sunday night I soloed him I went into “fade to black” and beat him again. This is the only game that sent me into a state of madness followed by going into another plane of existence achieving pure enlightenment.

    My main mhw:I save looks like I’ve pretty much only played great sword, but I make a new save to learn how to use weapons, do not use a full build to learn a weapon as it makes it where you’re used to something like more flinching, or quicker attacks, unless you’re trying bowguns, they’re not fun at all unless you have a build

      Rathalos has always been my go to for testing weapons, since he's not hard, but does a good verity of things, like flying, spinning, charging, etc. as well as has a tail to practice cutting.
      I'd also fight anjinath since a lot of monsters has that sort of... upper case T body shape where the legs are the only part easy to hit, it's a good way to test fighting hard to reach body parts for some melee weapons.

    I found that unless you’re using the Palico to the best of its capabilities, it’s better to just not use them at all. I had a semi useless palico when I switched to PC, whose only purpose was to prevent me from being carted once. I wasn’t gearing him or getting better items. But he has monster aggro half the time and it was annoying. I learned monster attacks and queues better when it’s always focused on me

      Been years since I finished Worldborne with Hammer in World (and Rise combat had me adapt to a different playstyle that I don't remember how I used to play Hammer before) but a few tips would be:
      1.) Get in the habit of always going into Power Charge. It's 7% more Raw, 10% more Stun, and I think it has some Flinch Free built in but I'm not 100% on that last one. Also, your Charged Attacks are upgraded into improved versions.
      2.) While charging, you can still walk around at normal unsheathed speed. Use that to your advantage:
      2a.) [Level 3 Charged Attack] Get used to positioning yourself in the right spot such that when the monster finishes its attack/attack chain, you're already there releasing your Level 3 Standing Charged attack (Charged Brutal Big Bang). You can follow up with a dodge (to get out of the slow recovery animation) or with Clutch Claw Attack (L2 - helps get you in for a quick tenderize while doing some good damage). Bonus - the last hit of this will be your best Wake Up attack for sleeping monsters. The first 2 swings move you back a bit, so just get used to the positioning such that the last hit is the one that wakes up the monster.
      2b.) [Level 2 Charged Attack] Make good use of the Level 2 Charged attack (Charged Brutal Upswing). It's an uppercut that moves you forward a decent distance and has good chance of hitting any elevated parts like a head. It's very fast while having the highest Stun buildup of any singular Hammer hit. Can also L2 for Clutch Claw Attack but you don't swing so it doesn't look as fancy hahaha. Note that since it's Level 2 Charge, you have a small window to get it out once you start charging. Just practice and get used to it. I also like to use it if I have to dodge an attack last second and it doesn't give me a huge window to get a CBBB off. Dodge, Charge for a bit while turning around, Fly into the monster's face with the uppercut.
      2c.) [Level 1 Charged Attack] This is basically a 2-part combo (R2 > Triangle) that's very short and very quick, good for small openings potentially. Noticeably, it can be used to go into either your Triangle Combo or Circle Combo. I like to use it to lengthen the combos I use for openings if I feel I have enough time to get it in.
      3.) Get familiar with your basic combos and attacks. Each has their own time and place.
      3a.) Triangle Combo is your basic combo that you can use during small openings or quick skirmishes. It's no Dual Blades Triangle Combo, but it can get some quick damage in if you weren't holding your Charge already. The last hit, also known as the Golf Swing, is the most important part, doing more damage and stun than the first 2 hits combined. Good for getting high heads.
      3b.) Circle Combo is your Big Bang Combo. Use ONLY during big openings like stuns or after a wallbang. If you miss with any attack mid-combo, you're put into a massive recovery animation and is deadly to your HP and damage output. But if you get it off, it is beeg damage. This will be your go-to combo when the monster is down (feel free to add R2>Triangle at the start to extend this combo a bit if the time permits).
      5.) The ledge is your best friend. Look up Ledge Hammer on youtube and see that Hammer + Ledge is stronger than any weapon out there. Situational, but powerful.
      6.) You can roll out of the recovery animation after most of your combos. Do this as it gets you out of the way sooner, avoiding danger and letting you get started on the next opening. I also suggest Evade Window as Hammer doesn't really have any defensive options, but that's just me.
      7.) I don't really need to say this since I presume it's fairly common knowledge at this point but 99% of the time, you go for the head. Don't be Thor. You see Unga, you Bunga.

    I personally disagree with the very first tip. Learning how to roll through roars is realistic, but almost everything else simply isn’t. This is due to the fact, that you have 13 s without any Evade Window skill and a lot of hitboxes of monster attacks stay active for more frames than your own s, so you literally can’t dodge them, even if you do a frame perfect roll.
    This is what Evade Window is for. You either use the dodge roll as a repositioning tool to get out of an attack, or you use evade window to dodge through them.

    Every monster is easy until you have to fight the gold and silver Rath’s, no amount of flame or poison protection seems to help and I’ve never been good at dodging. Evasion mantle? What even is that? I’ve completed all optional quests up to the Rath’s and haven’t got it. The only mantle that helps with evasion is the temporal mantle. Wiping in this game feels so awful. In souls games you loose 1 or 2 minutes if you wipe at a boss, but in MH you do good and boom 30 minutes wasted😢

    On Number 2, I dont agree completely, since I really dislike any ranged Weapon with Ammo in this game. But I've been trying out Dual Blades, Great Sword, Hammer, Chargeblade and Switchaxe.
    For me that is good enough.

      have you tried the bowguns? if you have then you're already kinda doing what the tip says anyway. if you haven't then how do you know you don't like em?
      either way, it's a good point I made
