    This is a great series of video's letting most of us who either haven't seen these bikes for a long time, never seen these bikes in the flesh, having only seen them in other video's, magazines or shows and here we not only see them but hear them run and ride, and with a guy who knows what they're doing but can also give us some history on them. Brilliant. And another great video.

    Nice to see a historic machine running and not just on static display. Agreed, it sounds lovely.

    Thanks Paul. Aiways enjoy your videos of these beautiful classics bikes and I learn something each time. And your test drive routes are very scenic. Wish I had easy access to quiet country roads like those. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Canada.

    As a Jock and brought up with tales of Bob, I can't tell you how happy I am to see this machine still getting used and it's heritage is clear as the binnacle leaps away from your camera on acceleration. Sadly there isn't a photo of the '58 machine in Mick Walkers book to show the gear linkage arrangement and the '59 machine seems to have gone to siamesed pipes. I don't think I've ever called a cylinder head pretty but that has to be a contender. Unfortunately I was overseas for the B Mac Memorial at East Fortune and didn't have the privilege of seeing that machine or the Gilera replica paraded. Thank you.

    I recently posted a comment on your Trident video, This is a bike I have for about 20 years but didn't have the money to sort out. Its a 1971 T150V fitted with the beauty kit with only 7775 miles on it, it was taken of the road as someone stripped the plug threads of the middle cylinder I have since had helicoiled and top-end reassembled. I haven't done much with it since getting it going but not going well about 6 years ago. Your video inspired me to get it sorted.
    I was going to electronic ignition but after seeing your vid I decided to keep the points set up but on inspection, the adv/ret unit springs were stretched, unable to source a new adv/ret unit or springs I settled on the Boyer Microsystem complete with coils now fitted.
    I also decided to remove the choke slides having rebuilt the carbs and replaced the float bowls as they had holes in them, I suspect US fuel, floats, float valve all seals and set to recommended float heights.
    When I got it started on about the 3rd kick it was fine above 2000rpm but if let drop below the engine struggled and stopped it would restart but as though it was running weak. I refitted the choke slides, now it doesn't cut out but still doesn't feel right, there is a new standard air filter fitted. I'm not sure what's going on.
    In the late 70's I had a 71 TR6P with conical hub brake as fitted to the Trident, the TR6P the brake could only be described as brilliant but the Trident is bad, really bad, even with the original shoes and new shoes, I know there is longer brake arms can be fitted, have you any suggestions on this, brake linings etc.
    Sorry for the long comment and I know you're not a diagnostic channel, If I wasn't in Northern Ireland I would make a trip to you with it.

      It sounds like your carbs pilot passageways are blocked - a common problem with Concentrics - I made a video showing how to unblock them. as for the conical brakes, there are adjuster screws inside for the brake shoes at their pivot points, these are accessed via a grommet in the hub and often overlooked.

    A handsome bike indeed, and a very informative video. You obviously enjoyed the previous ride, it really shows. You were so lucky with that front tube, the gods were on your side. I had a similar thing recently but with my rear tyre, I only moved the bike to fix an annoying buzz from the clock area and the tyre literally popped, tube split about 1/2”. Anyway good stuff as usual, best wishes.

    I always thought the Meteors were the 500 twins? Interesting the clean tucked-in style of the riders of those years, no hanging off or knee down styles. I think it looked much tidier.

      Hi Peter - Meteors and Super Meteors were 700 cc and Meteor Minors were 500 cc.

    Paul, thank you so much for this added walk-around video. What a great history. RE always seemed to be a bridesmaid and never a bride. The look of that bike is exactly what I want to go for on my Connie. That magneto is definitely different than the stock unit. I'm guessing the Concentric went on years later, obviously. I know in my literature (1961 Twins) shows both a single TT and dual Monoblocs for the twins. If memory serves, there was a difference between the UK and US spec bikes as far as the carbs went. I love the look of that seat. It has the perfect proportions. Is there any chance I can get a measurement from front to back? There are a few pans available out there that look similar but in different lengths. Thanks for any help and thanks again for this video and the ride.

      Hi Charlie and thanks!. Those seats were sold by Hitchcocks and / or Burton Bike Bits a few years ago and may still be available. We used them on our RE racers at one time and they usually have an RE badge on the rear.

      @@paulhenshaw4514 I just looked up Hitchcock's and Burton's. With the resurgence of RE it's getting tough to find parts for vintage bikes. Hitchcock's only has modern bike seats. Burton's does have a seat that looks identical to the one on McIntyres bike but with a BSA Goldstar style badge on it. That would definitely work and I'd have a nice Beesa badge for the wall. Thanks for the heads up.

    Bob McIntyre was a hard rider who never let up. If a machine had any weak points Bob would find them. It just goes to show how good that bike was in it's day.

    Excuse me, i have one. I need to know which are the clearence valves measurements in & ex. And when You are going to tune up, always take left pistón of reference? Thanks a lot

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  3 года назад

      No clearance with a cold engine and it shouldn't matter about TDC, as both pistons rise and fall together, but the left one is on the same side as the points, so it is easier to check with this one.

  • @charliemessenger6537

    Paul, Do you know what the front hub/brake is from? I see it has dual pulls. All the info I see in the parts books for Connie and Super's from this period are single pull. Looking at the few vintage pictures, it appears to be the one used when it was raced.

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  4 года назад

      Hi Charlie, as far as I know, these brakes were used on Meteors, Super Meteors, constellations and some 350 and 500 Bullets and ought to be quite common on many 1950's machines.
