    Thanks for the video. My monitor is actually having the exact problem you mentioned towards the end of the video (dark, dull color, namely a distinct lack of red). I checked to make sure the red cable was connected and fastened securely, and I'm still having the same problem. It all started when a cat jumped inside and took out the neck board on my crt. Is there anything else I should look out for that may have gotten knocked lose? It worked perfectly before the bastard went in there. Thanks!

    FYI, if the tungsten filaments aren't glowing (the orange glow), it could be a conductor issue or the filament could've blown or shorted. It takes a lot longer for a CRT filament to burn out than a light bulb because of the 6.3v running through the filament, instead of 120/240VAC in a light blub, but it does happen.

      Hmm...i jiggled the neck area just like in the video but it went dead again. I found out that it's related to the white cables (the ones at the left found @ 1:46)....if i apply pressure in a certain angle, it'll turn on. If i don't it may stay off. When i mess with it......once in a while, a spark will be active (which is not good i think.....). Unsure of a permanent fix.

    When the CRT loses the intensity of the red gun, it is usually because of age. The red cathode is usually the first to go. However, when it stops working after you've fidled with it, that is usually because of a loose conductor (wire). I had the same issue with my Sony CRT television when I completely pulled it apart for a service/clean. I just disconnected and re-connected all the cables. Problem solved.

    Hi there, I enjoy your videos. They have been helpful. I just bought a NEO GEO 2 slot upright cab that has a 4 slot board in it. It recently started to make a ticking/arcing noise on initial power up, then after its warmed up it goes away and stays that way until it has been powered down for a while. I do think its a grounding issue on the chassis, particularly the flyback. Any recommendations on what I can do to fix this. Thanks

    Maybe cleaning the oxidation off connectors is a more future proof way than just wiggle the neckboard a little. Making sure it stays there is a good way not to have the problem again - after cleaning the oxidation off.
    Use proper connectors and cable ties and cable won't fall out... They should be able to get moved without these things happening.

    An issue with my DDR machines monitor led me here.
    Was fine up to mid play a couple of days ago and haven't had any issues in 3 years I've had it, but suddenly the green became offset (ghosted) to the right, producing a double in green except for the red channel.
    You reckon it could be the first fix/a colour wire has come loose?

    • @moomert1
      @moomert1  8 лет назад

      assuming you have a crt monitor, when the color gets whacked out, lightly apply pressure on the connection joint of where the harness wires attach to the monitor. if the color goes back to normal, and then goes bad once pressure is released, you may have sole cold solder on the monitor chassis.
      you could also need a cap kit, which means that your beat bet would be to get an arcade tech to stop by and take a look.

    I've seen plenty of arcade machines that have one color missing on the monitor. Sadly, most machines these days are very poorly maintained, and even if you tell the staff they won't do anything about it... I also saw a Donkey Kong tabletop with a dead screen (but you could hear the game playing). In this case the neckboard was loose and needed pushing back in, just like your video.

Also every 45ish seconds or so it has a static discharge that I can hear and see in the picture...

    • @moomert1
      @moomert1  9 лет назад

      That sounds like the monitor is ready to really crap out. You probably need the chassis to be rebuilt.
      When the monitor shuts down and restarts, can you still hear the game playing while the monitor shuts off, or does your entire cabinet shut down.
      If by some chance the issue is not the chassis, verify your jamma harness is securely connected to the chassis and verify that you black, white power wires are securely connected the chassis.

    I agree about warning people, but a CRT won't usually kill you. The voltage is certainly high enough (up to 32kv), but the current is next to nothing. The positive anode voltage is certainly enough to paralyse you though, and may kill you if you have a pre-existing heart condition or a pace maker. The aquadag coating on the tube is live and will bite. I got nervous watching this though, especially despite the lack of warning.

    Just curious... My MVS has this exact problem where the Red went out. I figured it may be a simple issue like what you showed, but my monitor is slightly different. I didn't have just the red as a single wire, it's a harness that connects all three colors. Then it connects to another quick connect and then into the harness that leads to the MVS motherboard. I've reseeded all of the connectors and I'm getting no red still. Do you have any ideas? Here I have a different board hooked up but still the same issue. ruclips.net/video/DMXE1zw5j5U/видео.html

    • @moomert1

      +DarakuTenshi what you can do is slightly push down on the area where the wires connect to the chassis on your monitor. Do this while the game is on. Just push lightly the plastic connector which holds the wires. If you notice the color comes back on, and then goes away when you release pressure, that would most likely mean you have some solder on your chassis which needs to be reflowed.

    You should be very careful, and warn people about messing about with CRTs. There's a conductive graphite coating on the tube (called an "aquadag"), which is live with electricity and may paralyse or kill you. And never, ever touch anywhere near the anode cap.

    I have a buck hunter 2 game with a medium resolution neotec monitor and it doesnt always turn on but if I sit there and unplug and plug in the cabinet eventually the screen will come on. Everything works perfect once it's going but as soon as I unplug it I have to plug and unplug it a bunch of times again. Once I get the screen to come on it'll work perfectly even if I use the little tube control board to turn off the tv off it will come on and still works. @@fubar-jp1rz first search craigslist. If nothing pops up, or there is nobody near your area, the next thing you will need to do is learn how to discharge a monitor and then remove the chassis. There are still some places that will repair the chassis for you. Discharging the monitor is a whole new ball game. If not done correctly, you can give yourself and pretty hefty shock.
      Other alternatives are to just buy a new monitor. Suzo Happ has a brand new 27inch Tri Sync monitor on sale for $495.00. Yes its expensive..........but it will be new and you really wont have to worry about anything.

      please for the love of god do not replace your monitor with an lcd panel of any sort. they are ugly, cause input delay, and fail to produce the type of quality image that crts provide. these games were made with crt monitors in mind.
      it sounds like the electrolytic capacitors on your crt board are dry. you can easily find cap kits online on many different arcade repair sites.
      if you possess old arcade hardware, your job is to refurbish it not replace or "improve" it. these items need to be preserved.
