So, Lara once said during an interview the history behind her recording this song. The director of the movie himself called her and asked her if she would like to meet Mr. Williams (the conductor) in Boston and participate of a kind of "test" to see if they would match. Then, she decided to go meet him. A week later she was in Boston and Mr. Williams invited her to a small theater there where he had a small team helping him. He gave the score to her and asked her to study it ("just take your time, Mrs. Fabian"). She took few minutes to do it. Then she asked him to start the test, which he did. She said "Thanks to my dad who putt me at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels for 10 years and my love for music, I am able to read the score easily, when I started to sing, he looked at me and said it loud "OK. STOP!" I got a bit nervous. Then he said "we have our interpreteur. Mrs. Fabian, you're the one."
Ps: At first she recorded this song alone. Then they decided to have two versions of it. They invited Josh to participate. Lara said that she got very glad to know that she would performing with such an young talented man. There are thw two versions of tvis song here on RUclips. Lara's solo. And both singing. :)
Lara Fabian has a better voice than Celine Dion, they are both great world artists but Lara Fabian has a technique, a sweetness in her face in her voice and has an incredible voice in all languages and Lara is a composer and to this day she is still incredible, do not compare them anymore because they are not alike at all, lara fabian is my favorite
If you think that about Josh I assume you've never went to his shows. Unfortunately, me neither, but there's a lot of videos here that says otherwise! I might sound a bit vulgar, but sometimes you can see his neeples on air because he's so engaged in the feeling! The way he interects with his audience is wonderful, as well! In this video Lara had already a career for almost 10 years and he was starting his career! This was in early 2002 and the first time he was on a stage was early 1999! At this time he never toured, his first tour was in 2004-05! She was 32 here and he was just turned 21! Besides that, he was very shy, he had way less experience than her, he was way younger than her and he looked up to her! Even though she's a sweetheart, I bet it was nerve-wracking for him! 😊
Thanks for another Lara reaction video! I think it was sweet, but as you've said Josh has a problem sometimes connecting with the duet partner. When he sings alone he soars, with a strong female partner like Lara and Celine he sometimes gets a bit shy which I find adorable. If I may, I like to suggest 2 duets with Lara. ;Toi et Moi' that she sang with the late great baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky and 'Requiem Pour un Fou' whch she sang with the late Johnny Hallyday. Hi Jeff .. The clarity of Lara Fabian's voice is incredible, the low notes demonstrate the extraordinary talent of this "angel on earth". I love Josh's voice ... Two brilliant singers who knew how to interpret this song in a masterful way ... Sorry for using so many adjectives, but so many are few to classify this duet. Greetings from Portugal. I almost forgot... Jeff do you know the song "perdere l'amore " by Lara?
Huh, I never knew they sang it live together. I have loved her solo version of this song since I discovered it. I'm not quite sure I like this duet. Will have to think on it. 🤔
On second watch, I think Groban was not as. . .easy? agile? in the first half of the song as I had expected. But I sense a switch was flipped about half way through, and it felt much more "in the sweet spot" for the character of the song, imo. Will think more on it. 🤔 Thanks for introducing us/me to this "new" to me performance.
@@susannariera I'll check it out, thanks! Did he seem maybe a little, I don't know, stiff? nervous? constrained here, esp in the first half, to you? Since you know his solo version well, maybe you can pinpoint what felt not quite right in the duet to my ears. 🤷♀️
@@DoggieFosters I really think that Josh Groban's harmonies accompanying the meodic line being sung by Lara were really ugly and incongruous - so much so I wonder if it was not improvised.
@@DoggieFosters yes, he looks young here, and nervous, specially at the beggining. There's a video of the first time he sang with Celine Dion, his hands were trembling before he started singing (he was 16/17 years old). I think he is better now, more confident. (Sorry for my weak English, is my 3rd language, still learning 😉).
Yes, she is the most flexible of all. But Josh was so young here... he was 21 and he was starting his career... he was always so scared... Lara had 10 years of conservatory and plus almost 10 years of career at that time!
I don't think their voices mesh well at all. The harmonies in this version sound really weird, (maybe improvised?) which is te main reason I don't like it. Lara is very good at modulating her own voice to serve her partner in duets ( examples abound) but I feel that on this occasion having to "accommodate" Josh Groban's voice somehow inhibited her own. Maybe it was the same forJosh Groban. So I give this duo a thumbs down. Michael Bolton's and Sohyang's The Prayer, did not work either. Compare these with Michael Bolton and Lara's the Prayer. Now That duo, despite Bolton's stiffness, realy worked!!
I love them both, but they don't match really well, I've heard Josh solo version many times and it sounds much better than here. Oh, and my favourite Josh songs are You Raise Me Up (of course) and You're Still You (maybe because it was the first song I heard him sing).
Lata Fabián best Voice word
I will listen to anything that has Lara Fabian in it, i adore her, beautiful voice, beautiful human being...❤

Josh was so young at the time - scared, but so effective.

@Fedor Ivanov I tritto the request for Pedere l'amore, Jeff!
I shall have to make this happen!
You should react to Michael Bolton and Lara Fabian - The prayer
Oh yessss !!! That would be great !!
react to LARA in "tango mi amor" live

Comme ils disent, a song written by Charles Aznavour in the early 70's. Revolutionary text exploring homosexuality
I don't know any other duet of this song! Who sungbit, already?
Please dont keep calling her LAURA !! her name is LARA !!!!
Groban has a beautiful voice but it isn't really as flexible and fluid as Lara's. But, to be fair, nobody is. Lara is a vocalist with very few peers.
Yes, she is the most flexible of all. But Josh was so young here... he was 21 and he was starting his career... he was always so scared... Lara had 10 years of conservatory and plus almost 10 years of career at that time!
Lara's solo version of this is SOOOOOO much better than the duet. In my opinion, Groban ruins it with his amateur technique and awkwardness.
To be fair, nobody can match Lara's skills.
It's normal that he was scared because he was just starting his career and she had 10 years of conservatory and plus a 10 year old career!

Did Josh sing this song solo? When?
