Despite the very impressive brown add-on match featured here, I still think that the condemned playstyle is 100% reliant on her best add-ons. The Iri Tape makes multiple TVs reset that would otherwise take 100s each to reappear. Without that, I don't think you can hope to get consistent results in big maps where teams split up and don't make big mistakes. Whatever you think of Sadako, I think we can all agree that a Killer should not have to bring specific add-ons to keep up with the rest.

I agree with the condemned playstyle being reliant on her best addons; 100% for sure! It specifically allows her to consistently 4k. With only browns, purples or greens, an all out condemned playstyle, would blow over against a great team.
But, when kill viability comes into question, I probably tier things a little differently!
(or possibly I am missing something)
If the goalposts were at a 2k,
      - A 3 gen setup eruption strat
      - Condemnation not only for kills, but also slowdown
      - Hooks on survivors
      - Taking in account browns addons, greens, purples etc.
she likely, could consistently 2k, even against good teams!
(The way I usually tier a killer at B-Tier is when a killer can hover around a 2k against good teams)
But, if you meant she's not viable solely with basekit zero addons, I agree! It's very likely we tier things differently! I agree with the majority of your stance on her though!

Sadako´s greatest strength is that she is so bad that no one wants to play her, which in turn makes that some survivor players don´t know how to play against it.
Besides, the best Sadako player got steamrolled so ridiculously hard when up against an organized SWF, think it was three games they played (Otz channel), where he had some success the first game (when they were not used to Sadako), second game was a horrible struggle for him but eventually he managed to get one kill and three left, third game the SWF did not bring any perks or items (without the killer knowing) and absolutely dominated the match against Sadako.

But here’s a counterpoint to your statement.
How often are you going to encounter a SWF that organized?
Cause I’ve played DBD for almost 3 thousand hours and I’ve only ever encountered 10 SWF’s that were organized beyond belief.
The problem is Otz’s demonstration matches are done with Competitive mindsets in mind.
BHVR is not designing every killer to be competitively viable, they’re more focused on the casual player base and making sure they have fun even if they are losing.
Reminder that DBD is an Asymmetrical game, which is known in the wider game industry as near impossible to Balance.
One side will always be stronger than the other no matter how much BHVR tinkers with it, the more they lean to ‘balance’ the more dull the game gets, because they are trying to Balance catering to the casual player base and the competitive player base, which the competitive player base is the smaller minority of the player base, compared to the casual majority.
Edit: I should also add, if all your going to do is base your entire judgment off of another content creators opinion, then you shouldn't really be allowed to make any judgment calls about what you think is right or wrong, unless you've actively went out of your way to play the killer enough yourself to gauge your OWN opinion, rather than going through word of mouth, we call that herd mentality.

Since her release, loved every bit of her. Did a Sadako focused stream where I cleaned house with her. Maybe others were mistreating her. But Sadako has a lot of viability and if an individual shut off a tv another will be available. Giving her Generator punishing perks and pressuring others along the way is brutal. Playing as her and seeing others play her, made noticed that most survivors have a hard time against her because they are desperate to turn off tvs, take tapes, unhook a friend, and work on a gen. They have too many things to do and worry about Sadako that it is stressful for them. All the more fun!

    • @Noxissa

Nobody ever has to touch a tape. Sadako is only "good" if survivors are making mistakes. She is a bad killer because she has nothing against good survivors. Nothing. Other killers are better in every way. She needs buffs.
I love Sadako. She would be my favourite killer just because I love her as a character if she wasn't in such a bad spot. I don't want to be forced to use addons just to be playable, especially iri ones. She needs some love, condemned needs to work better and not be easily ignorable.

Tapes aren't a big problem to deal with at all. I can grab a tape and do a significant chunk of a gen before ever worrying about the tape. Hens played against Willy in order to see how sadako performs against top tier survivors that know how to counter her. Although the first game ressulted in a 2k, later on hens and his team developed stratagies to greatly reduce the effectiveness of this playstyle, this included taking tapes out of target tvs to deny pressure on them, bringing self heals and unbreakable to counter ring drawing, predropping to avoid manifest mindgames, as well as generaly playing optimaly. The end ressult was that sadako could consistantly be countered by a team of well cordinated survivors to the point where they are only able to get one kill a match. That being said it is very rare that survivors like this are found making sadako still quite a strong killer as proven by this video. Most people assume that if a killer can be reliably hard counterd by top teams then that makes them bottom tier, but even most full SWF teams are not nearly as optimal, not to mention he was able to pull this playstyle off in a competitive setting on haddonfield. My conclusion is that sadako is a killer that needs some buffs to be less addon reliant, as well as have some tools introcuced to help defend tapes more effectively, but otherwise is a high risk, high reward, time efficient killer with high mobility that can effectively make use out of hit and run as well as occasional mindgame at loops for downs when not expected.

While I do see that she isn’t necessarily weak, I feel that this is a very weird situation as you need to play a certain way to be extremely successful with her and that’s not the worst in a game with many killers with different play styles, it just means that if you want to be decent with her consistently you can’t really be diverse in your play style which hurts because there are many other killers where that is achievable. I’ll also say in terms of build is that there is a massive push to have eruption nerfed from the community because it is seen as overall not healthy for the game as it punishes solo queue. I’d be interested to see Willie use different builds with this play style and see how successful he is. This also paints her as a new type of Billy, a killer who gets punished severely for making a mistake when if other killers made a similar one would not. It definitely gets you in a special tier of skill, but it’s unfortunately that the same level of victory can be achieved at lower skill with other killers.

Sadako is fine at lower skill levels, simply because survivors aren't good at looping. Really, the only thing you fear as Sadako is a team where all survivors are good in chase, otherwise you can simply target the weak links in the team. She only really has a problem at higher levels when all the survivors are skilled because if you can't get easy hooks, it's very tough. But against low level survivors you can sometimes straight up grab a healthy survivor off a gen because you take them by surprise with your stealth and get super close, especially if you're running the well water add-on.

I was honestly shocked to see Sadako labeled as C-Tier. She is basically the wraith but with teleport and a better attack hitbox. She was one of the few hunters I always put in the A-tier. She has amazing early game pressure on most maps. I hit someone, then cross the map, hit another survivor, damage a gen and get pyramid head's oblivious status. Then I teleport back and down the first person. She is small and survivors have a hard time seeing me when running loops especially with oblivious. I can easily trick them into running face first into me and getting them with that insta-hit. Her attack hitbox is the best in the game imo with doors and windows being death traps for survivors trying to run. Even with generic perks and without add-ons I usually get 3 kill games. I can't remember a time where I lost as Sadako.

In terms of sound and lore design she's spot on. Ringu is my favourite horror movie and the sound effects, movement is perfect! My only gripe is her height. She didnt seem that short when she was pushed into the well. It's like the took the lore of the original and gave her the height of the American remake.
I like playing her. A lot. I think people are writing her off too quicl;y. They arent playing her to her full potential. Of course, she is weaker than most killers but it takes practice!

After Sadako's release, I quickly added her to mu roster of killers. She's honestly one of my favorites. I so agree she can be extremely oppressive, but you really have to force it.
If I could choose what changes could be made to her, I'd buff the invisibility duration, give some loop power (something as crazy as walking through pallets and breakable walls while demanifested, or as little as decreased stun while demanifested), buff passive gain of condemned and/or negative status effects to encourage tape usage. And finally nerf forced condemned playstyle so you don't have to always do it to win.
I do hope they readdress her power at some point, some aspects are overtuned while others are undertuned.

Seems like she's strong enough for sweaty high end play but I would like to be able to play her conventionally as a sneaky killer who hooks and not get destroyed by a decent team. Slugging may be effective but its not that fun to me.

I always thought Sadako had a high skill ceiling (like cenobite, pyramid head, and plague) where they all require you to know the kit really well. As well as what perks to run to compensate for their weaknesses.
Sadako, imo, is not C tier. Though she will never be S tier in her current state.
The biggest issue I find survivors facing is the ignoring the condemned state entirely.
I am somewhat amazed how people manage to fail to deal with Sadako. Ignoring her condemned and not looking around as they do the gen (which results in them getting grabbed normally).
If you can keep an eye on condemned, as well as move your camera around, all you need to do is avoid high loops where she can mind game you.
She, honestly, could easily rise to A tier or even S tier if she had an addon that gave her some strength in chase. Possibly even the right perk combinations.
She lacks the mobility or ability to 'cut off' or ignore loops, windows, and pallets like most A (or S) tier killers (Nurse, Blight, Spirit, Pyramid Head, Artist)

@Fallen into darkness true, most people don't know how to play any killer optimally. So when ever my team goes against her I have them all do separate gens and every time she teleports you get a sound notification so that tells you to be more aware, if you're in a chase and get that notification most of the time sadako is trying to teleport in front of you so I just turn around and run back the way I came to buy more time. If she keeps coming back to the same Gen 3x then I have my guys bait it, example I have them or me tap it and then just leave and go to a new Gen so next time its kicked the killer thinks someone is hiding close by so she will waist more time looking around the area. Rhe hardest part of playing sadako is paying attention you really have to just move you're camera around a lot like uou would a wraith. Do that and you'll get out 9x out of 10x. Not easy at first but after some time it's easy.

As someone who plays Sadako a lot, she's definitely not weak. She's not strong without iri tape, but she can still have a decent power level with her other add-ons, which all range from alright to pretty good. Cabin sign is basically iri tape at home and ring drawing is unique in the pressure it gives. Yoichi's fishing net makes taking tapes even more of a risk. Even with just cabin sign and Yoichi's net, you can capitalize on a survivor mistake in their positioning and take them out very early. That won't always happen but it very much can. And truthfully, you don't need 3-4 slowdown to do well, though a high amount of any slowdown makes a killer much stronger and consistent.

TL;DW version: Sadako is Pig 2.0. A trash tier killer who becomes monstrously dangerous because of a busted add-on, rather than a strong base kit.
The Iridescent Tape specifically fixes her two crippling weaknesses:
    1) Hitting a survivor resets up to four TVs when she damages a survivor. At 100 seconds cooldown per TV, the time savings on this are beyond insane; going far beyond the efficiency gains of add-ons OR perks on any other killer in Dead By Daylight.
    2) With the ability to spam teleports and constantly pressure generators, her Condemned mechanic becomes actually dangerous.
The only other add-on that comes anywhere close to the transformative power of the Iridescent Tape is the Tombstone Piece on Myers, for very similar reasons. However, even Tombstone Myers faces greater restrictions on its potential abusiveness as there is only a finite amount of Evil Within you can gain by stalking and the speed of stalking is agonizingly slow with it equipped at the best of times.
I say all that to say this: Sadako is a HORRIBLE killer; one the worst in the game.
Sadako is not winning these matches through guile or improvisation, but brute force numbers-efficiency. She's winning through BAD GAME DESIGN. Again, 100 second cooldown on her TV teleportation more than precludes her winning via condemned alone as One Pump Willie has.

The problem with Sadako isn’t that she’s unspeakably bad - but that there isn’t anything she can do that other killers can’t do better.
    - Map presence without cooldown? Nurse, Blight, Billy Sprint, Nightmare teleport, Spirit Phase, Demogorgon, Dredge TP
    - Stealth ambush? Shape, Ghostface, and Wrath can do so without a lullaby.
    - Interaction based Slowdown? Pinhead, Nemesis, Mastermind, Trapper, Nightmare, and Pig have her beaten by a mile.
Can she get condemnation to eliminate survivors without hooks? Yes, but a lot of things have to align for it to work out. If you’re a AAA killer you may be able to FORCE this to happen, but if you’re a AAA killer, you can also win with other killers just as easily without having to contrive as much.
