    Have you done a video on how you ball your tungsten I am new to tig but started my welding glueing rusty handovers together for the uk mot tests first with oxy acetylene then mig which greatly reduced the fires now I am learning tig your videos have been the most helpful and instructive on utube keep up the good work if you ever find yourself in Strathmore Alberta you are always welcome thanks

    Hey Dusty. Great videos. Lots of your videos mention balled tungstens but I have not seen one on how to ball your tungsten though.

      That was my first thought - soooo how do you do it? Over heat your tungsten on a piece of scrap?

    Question which is so basic it’s probably why I can’t find a simple answer: how do you form the ball on the end of your tungsten?

    • @AbductingTheAliens
      @AbductingTheAliens 8 месяцев назад

      It forms naturally as a result of the AC cycle.

    If you have a tranformer machine you can use thoriated tungsten and retain a normal grind angle and welding without a ball formed. The point can also help with penetration too.

    What i do is taper (at 60°) the end of my tungsten with a bit of a flatnose and let it ball on its own if i'm using 70% neg - 30% pos balance. If I'm using more of a 50-50 or 30% neg - 70% pos (cleaning) balance, I will ball the tip of the tungsten to keep it from overheating and tipping over to one side or the other of the tungsten (deaxing)

    What about tungsten prep for Stainless Steel?

  • @Muncles
    @Muncles Год назад

    My tungsten is messed up after 5 seconds of welding and sometimes even crack. Tried many different tungsten types and diameters and also all the settings I could think of.
    (Never went to a welding school so I might just miss something)
    Never got a ball on my tungsten like you show in the videos, not sure how you even do this.
    When I try Alu its frustrating me 95% of the times. Stainless is so much easier

    • @Proxtor

      There is no Best. They all have their uses. LaYzr is good with a pointy end, but doesn't ball good. It's good on thin stuff. I found 2% lanth great for thicker aluminum and running hotter. It's somewhat all based of personal preference and what your actually welding. Like asking what's the best tire... are you running in mud? Off road? Racing? Snow? Rain or just city summer driving? That's kinda what tungsten is like.

    • @BrianNichol
      @BrianNichol Год назад +2

      @@Proxtor hey thanks. I’ve been using ceriated which seems to work for everything decently. Wanted to try lanthanated next thinking it would last longer and not get the funky spiky build up on it after a while. Thanks for info 🙏

    Okay so i'm not a years long pro. The ones around here that had are tho. For aluminum (AC) you do not want a pointed tip. For things like steel you want a pointed tip.
