Dude, i saw a lot of shorts from you. I hate self defense. I usually think it doesn't work. It doesn't work without a real training in combat sport and a real physical condition. So i love how you work.
I came on your channel from a short that i liked. So i decided to see your latest video. And it's amazing. Self defense i usually see, an ex-UFC fighter that i like (Cyrille Diabaté) calls it "mytho-jitsu" (liar-jitsu). But what you do is real, because it's your job and you know how to deal with it.
I also work in a security job and i love what you do. Using one opponent to make a shield between you and the other, and staying in one vs one situation is smart. Keeping the fence is too.
I follow you and will watch your older vids! I'd like a guy like you to teach your knowledge in my job, where you can sometimes feel alone with some colleagues who don't know how to deal with violence or an angry guy.
    Thanks for the content.

Hey! I like your content very much. Been following you almost a year by now.
You gave a lot of good information in this video like any other video you produced.
How you were reacting so calm and coordinated in this situation, also the guys disrespected your personal space / fence is very amazing. Me personally, I would have reacted (punchred) earlier especially the guy in the blue jacket.
Keep on giving us the good quality content!
Heartly greetings from your neighbour country Germany 👊😉👍

As a Security guard in England this is absolutely fantastic training material. You are so spot on, you are defensive, talking to them, trying to stop them verbally, keeping good distance. Amazing. Then they pushed too far and had to go to sleep. Great work.

This went quite deep into the wrestling with ego, fear, adrenaline overload prompting a new and dangerous element, but when you have skills all of this can be brought under control, (with enough training!), but I did love when you showed your empty hands up and right there tattooed on your left side of hand I think it says in Chinese (it’s very blurry but I think the first character is I / me) “I am a and the second character looked like shi, loosely translated (because the character can’t be translated into English properly) a sort refined person, or gentleman of sorts, more the refinement of a Samurai, a soldier, a true combatant“ and the last character I couldn’t see clearly. So I’m guessing in that sort of vain. Pity they couldn’t read that, because you showed the refined side and then the other side and showed them the error of their ways! As always; food for thought for those that work the doors and the general “Joe”. Food for thought to be in control of yourself, even when the proverbial is about to happen, or already in its swing, unless in outright war, you have to be aware of what is deemed as necessary in the eyes of the law and therefore, make that first strike(s) haymakers and continue until you have negated any further threat and pause in your mind. There’s always cameras about nowadays and justifiable response, even if preemptively, is acceptable in the eyes of the law if you are indeed in fear of your person or about to be killed, when every response is allowed and make sure it’s the right response for the right “incident “. The jewel of all this is “Awareness!” Great video!

I've seen my JKD/Kali/Thai instructor fight 2 times in real life. We had to step in to keep him from getting his ass kicked both times. He's semi-famous and renowned in the JKD/Kali world and even now when he openly discusses his altercations in his current life his JKD/Kali goes out the window.
He himself says he falls back to his Shooto/Thai Boxing training to solve the problem.
He's one of the reasons I stay away from papertiger, cultural dance teaching "Martial Arts" instructors and why I follow @schoolofselfprotection, Michiel, and Lee Morrison.
P.S. Common mistake Thai Boxers and other Kicking emphasis art practioner's fail to take into account is what the Turd in the blue jacket did. They don't take into account their footwear or the surface they're standing/kicking on.
As strong and effective as Thai is I've seen plenty of practioner's, my former JKD/Kali/Thai instructor included, slip and fall on their ass trying to use a Thai roundhouse.
Another mistake is believing all people have a common response to being kicked in the leg, specifically the sciatic nerve portion of the leg. Some drop like flys, absolutely. And SOME just flinch, smile, and keep coming.
      My2cents....
      Late

THANK YOU for sharing explaining and breaking down in detail, the importance of showing several de-escalation opportunities first which shows (if a random camera is filming) keeping it legal, the single file stacking along with pointing out random people recording (Which will not help you thank you for saying that) which also could possibly go against you if not filmed in entirety.
(single file is so important.. with putting multiple opponents as much as possible ..number of opponents matters and will not be as easy with 3-4 ect).
I know you motioned were against/ feeling a certain way about showing/ breaking down a personal video of you in an "actual" scenario.
I THANK YOU BECAUSE AS AN INSTRUCTOR TEACHER IT IS IMPORTANT to be able/have the ability opportunity to actually show as an extra added learning tool it and not just speak of it/teach it.
It hits home of understanding much more effectively.. so... again... Michiel
I applaud you and I Thank you!

Brother, as someone that grew up in Romford
(Which is a bit of a party town in East London, England, a pretty rough place to say the least, I wouldn't be surprised if Lee is familiar with Romford as it was very popular among doormen, especially in the 90's)
I've seen many fights and I've seen many Security Guards and Bouncers handling situations.
You were SO kind to these two trouble makers, you gave them chance after chance after chance and you waited a LONG time before finally taking physical action.
It's so clear that you really wanted to de-escalate the two guys instead of hurting them, and you were so measured in your response as well.
My hat is off to your Michiel, you are a true professional and you have the patience of a saint!
    Edit:
People need to understand that there are some security guards out there, that will kick the living fuck out of you just because you said something they didn't like or looked at them the wrong way.
Michiel didn't lose his shit like that and was able to keep his cool, even with two aggressive men in front of him talking about a gun!
The level of self-control that shows deserves a world of respect.

Detailed breakdown. Multiple attackers, yes, line them up, frustrates the hell out of the ones that can't get to you, good footwork.
Your video and altercation completely affirm what I've been taught in the past 16 years of self-defense training for "the real world".
You mentioned that if you are forced to act that you can predict how bad it's going to go for these two characters. Your ego was in check, not an easy task, but you're also working security, so you know the law.
As for bystanders helping, that's a thing of the past, they won't take out their phones to call police, but they'll use the camera, and in many instances that camera footage will be more to your advantage than them getting in your way.
Statistically, for those people that don't finish the fight, they are more likely to lose the fight. Running away is something I hate to hear. Especially when women are told to knock your attacker down and run. He's going to get up and catch you.
So, like you said, "if you don't like me kicking the guy when he's down, I don't care, fuck you." LOL, so true.
I'm sure that once you heard "gun" that's when you knew that you had no choice.
    Great work.

Love your content, thanks for the good solid work. As a retired SF guy from the States, we've trained and used many of the concepts you teach and preach in combat to great success. Not knowing your laws, I feel like you were spot on with all responses, if not too restrained 😉
One thing that did make me nervous, though, and this is not a critique, was letting them get back to the scooter at all instead of keeping them away from it until the police got there and making them get it back from the cops. If the gun was in the bike, they could have started shooting back through the hotel doors at everyone inside out of anger.
You do great work and have a solid tactical mindset!

Never thought to comment on something like this but here I go with my experience. Back in 95 or 96 my brother and I got into a tussle with more than 15 to maybe 25 guys. Just me and my brother in a free for all in the middle of the street ...... with just about all the neighbors on that block all outside their steps witnessing this event. No one jumped in. My brother and I are not trained but we had no choice because my mother , sister n law where with us and they would have also been victims. So my brother and I took all these guys on 2 or 3 at a time using that same strategy you used to keep one in front of the other. Footwork was so essential. For every 2 to 3 hard punches we gave ......we would receive one surprise punch to the head. We hung in tight and never fell to the floor. Me and my brother literally had our backs to the wall of a home ...shoulder to shoulder punching and head dodging away punches. When all was said and done the folks on that block were shocked that we fought so many guys and not once fell to the floor. We had 1 black eye ....broken glasses and a shirt ripped but we survived and even got a compliment from one of the neighbors saying a gave a guy a brutal kidney shot that sent him to the ground in seconds. I personally don't remember that. Any way , since that day I gained a sense of self awareness in the streets. You did a great job my friend.

Great video. Is there a reason you chose closed fist vs open hand?

Interesting observation of human behaviour. Passers by do just that. Pass you by whilst filming the situation. Blue coat feels brave with black coat in front of him. Black coat feels brave with his mate right behind him. They tried to intimidate you saying 'Get the gun'. Your restraint and reasonable use of force is worthy of your instruction. Physical encounters usually make one question the effectiveness of their methods. Your methofs are in my humble opinion, the best in the self-protection business. Thank you for sharing.

Great work, great video. You were much nicer than I would have been. De-escalate but once it's on, it's on like Donkey Kong. Multiple attackers like that is a deadly threat...

Are there any techniques that actually work 50kg vs +90kg.. or does it mean you die if you fight??
