I purchased one of these from the craftsmanship blog website and I'm very happy that I did! I use the pro scrapper (also purchased off his website) for the stiles and the rails and use the infrared heat for the muntins/profiles. Works great! How does the infared effect the glass if you leave the glass in??
What do you do with the stripped paint once it has been removed? Should I also be looking to invest in a HEPA vacuum? Woof. Very paranoid about the lead.
6 mil poly plastic on floor from Lowes, roll and throw away. Dustless brand hepa vacuum may be an option too
Do you have any experience using the speedheater 1100 on painted cedar shake siding? I’m wondering how that would work with all the irregularities.

Any thoughts (links to videos/articles) about the easiest and safest way to remove lead paint that is peeling from a wall? The lead paint is underneath at least one coat of non-lead paint. The layers of paint are peeling down in chunks all the way down to the plaster. The house was built in 1925.
BossPawsTV for plaster the best option I have found is using a chemical stripper like PeelAway1.

Before I would think about removing the old paint, I would panel the wall with 4 by 8 foot sheets of thin paneling from big box store, , or covering with thin wall board and paint. Perfect results without chemicals or huge mess.
Glazing already removed usually the hardest part of this job is removing the glass. What did you use to remove the putty, heat gun or IR ?
If that’s a 1920s window frame it only has one coat of paint on it. Find it a bit suspect to be honest.
It’s is definitely a 1920s sash and it had way more than 1 coat of paint. More like 4-5 coats.

@The Craftsman Blog how do you mitigate risk when you sand the trim? As in, what do you do with the dust. Doesn't lead get into the wood itself?
I sand with a HEPA vac attached to my sander and wipe everything down with TSP which carries away the lead dust. It does not get into the grain of the wood.

Thanks for the instruction. I have some old Indian Shutters that ai want to strip and leave natural. I was thinking about hitting them again with the original infrared stripper but first applying boiled linseed oil to loosen up any streaks in the grain. Do you have any experience using linseed oil with the infrared stripper? Thanks, Dan.
Linseed oil softens the paint up and makes the IR stripper more effective in most cases.
I’ve got T1-11 siding, which has a textured surface. Will infrared work. Should I be concerned with the nooks and crannies?
It should work but you may have trouble getting paint out of the nooks.
I have a corner cabinet that I have been struggling to remove white paint for months. My plan is to strip it and apply stain. I was told it may be laquer paint applied in the factory and baked on. I have tried all strippers. They remove the top layer and there is another coat underneath. That coat takes 4-5 tries to remove most of the paint with the stripper and steel wool. Do you think the cobra with work quicker than what I am doing now. I am ready to give up. I have done a previous cabinet and it was so much easier to remove the paint.
I think the Cobra would work better but your never know until you test it. It might be easier to remove the doors and reface the cabinets rather than stripping them down.
if it is shellac the solvent is alcohol
Thanks for the demo. I have a lot of doors I would like to work on, and have been eyeing this tool. Thankfully it is just the doors upstairs, but we are still talking about 8 doors!
That’s a lot of doors! This would certainly make the work easier.
Mine stopped working, I have not dropped it and there doesn't seem to have any damage to the radiant coils. We even ordered and installed new coils, but still nothing. The green light on the handle will not illuminate. Any suggestions?

Hi. Great video. I just spoke with Eco Strip sales and they said their recommendation for interior door and window frames, trim and archways is the Cobra. Would you concur? Our house is 1917 or so and there is lead paint. The goal is to strip and then re varnish the wood. This purchase will represent a huge investment for us so any input regarding the best suited tool is appreciated. Thanks. Keith and Kathy.
Keith, I think Cobra is the way to go as well. The original Speedheater covers a larger area but heats slower and is a bit heavier. For refinishing it’s the simplest way to remove the paint and maintain the delicate profiles.
I own both and am very happy with the purchase! These can also be found on eBay where you may save some money and when you’re done resell. You won’t lose much and it will save vast amounts of time!
Thanks for your reply. Just found out from Eco that the Cobra has only been available in the US since 2017. That explains why there are less used than the original. Just saving the pennies now lol!
Keith l love my cobra for trim, windows, corners and tight spots. I’m stripping a whole house 2 stories and will sell mine when I get done. It may be awhile as I have about 100 window sashes to do.
Im not in a rush so I am interested. Not sure how to communicate with securely however?
