  • Got to stay with our favorite dive resort (Scandi divers!!) again this year before moving from Guam! As part of our package, we got to dive Verde Island.
If you are diving the Philippines, Verde Island needs to be on your scuba-safari bucket list.
The 1.14 million hectare passage is extremely rich in marine biodiversity and has been called "𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝘽𝙞𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮" with various conservation groups pushing for its nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The area has more than 300 species of corals, which is considered one of the largest concentrations of corals in the country, or possibly, the whole world. Many threatened species which include sea turtles like hawksbills, olive ridleys, and green turtles; humphead wrasses, giant groupers and giant clams are present in the Verde Island Passage.
Situated between Batangas and the island of Mindoro, Verde Island is a day trip away from Puerto Galera (as well as Sabang and White Beach). The area around Verde Island boasts some of the best diving in the area, which is to say some of the best diving anywhere in the world. Depending on the tide, the currents in the area run from tepid to strong. This dive is therefore best suited to more experienced divers with an advanced PADI open water certification.
