for bones: south of Church of Pilgrimage in Weeping Peninsula, head towards the walking mausoleum towards the merchant in the south west, theres 5 herds to hunt inbetween those 2 loacations. Tonnes of bones in just a few runs taking a couple minutes each

One thing you keep forgetting to talk about is that bows with a D or higher scaling in Strength should be preferred as every bow will always give a 50% increase to your Strength stat due to their innate two-handedness.
It's also why you should focus into Strength early on as it scales up deceptively well until you reach 30 (45 when two-handed), at which point you should focus the rest into Dexterity (if it also has a D or higher scaling) to get the most bang for your levels.

    • @WakkaWakka4life

@@Brown95P This is the exact reason why I use the Jar Cannon. Even without the bow glitch (it having been patched at this point) it requires a Str of 34 to use, which is worth scaling to that point anyway because of the bow scaling. The bad thing is that the jar cannon doesn't scale with attributes

    • @Brown95P
      @Brown95P 2 года назад +2

      @@nyxborne1786
The Jar Cannon's honestly overrated anyway; like yeah it's stronk and can penetrate enemies, but outside of that it's a greatbow (aka so loud enemies nearby are alerted) that's much slower and doesn't even have feathered bone ammo, so you need the arrow's reach talisman to make it remotely work.
'Sides, if you're gonna spend 30+ points in strength to use the jar cannon, then you might as well use a greatbow that requires that much and actually scales with it instead.

    • @66maybe66
      @66maybe66 Год назад +1

This only applies to the generic Shortbow, generic Greatbow, and the Pulley Bow.. The letter grades describe a whole range of scaling, with the real scaling value almost always being either objectively higher for Dexterity (Albinauric Bow), or the Strength scaling being exactly two thirds of the Dexterity scaling so they'll match either way (Black Bow). You can test this with negator13's AR calculator online.

There's another bow build I think could be viable into the later game. I use the serpent bow on my build that's basically Fextra's Blood Dragon but before it came out, and with a few tweaks. I think you get it from a cave in Caelid. It's the only bow in the game with Arc scaling, and it increases the application of poison. The item description says it makes all arrows apply poison, but I think that's a mistranslation because I've never gotten a poison proc with normal arrows. With Serpent arrows though, which can be purchased infinitely from the vendor behind Greyoll in Caelid, basically anything that can be poisoned will be after 2-3 shots, almost always 2

I'm afraid you didn't explore all of your options when it comes to archery. You can make a completely viable mid-game pure archery build, and with only a little bit of time investment. Within a few hours and careful planning, you can be extremely powerful - especially against bosses. I recommend this for players who have experienced enough of the game that they're comfortable enough to do a lil' bit of early exploration. No melee. Here's what you need:
Black Bow (found in the Capital). Upgrade materials to +6 *Somber*
Greatbow (dropped in Atlus Plateau). Upgrade materials to +12 *Normal*. This is optional, as you have to grind for it. Hunt it or not, but it can be safely ignored as it's replaced by the Lion Greatbow.
After Radahn: Lion Greatbow. Upgrade materials off of Somber, but prioritize Black Bow.
    Spoilers ahead. You've been warned.
    >Level Range: Around 50 to really optimize this.
To begin: Pick Samurai, golden seed. You start with a bleed weapon and decent enough stats. Grab your horse and get moving. Move forward to Third Church of Marika, take the portal behind. Grab the Gold Seed, move to the lower bridge where the Calvary Knight spawns. Switch to night time. Jump on top of the giant root, and pop him with the long bow. He'll run around to the root side, but if not, convince him to. Lure him into the corner of the root, where the bridge meets the root, and he'll get stuck. Jump onto the bridge. Cheese him with arrows or until he falls off and dies. Collect souls. Level Vigor, grab 15 strength, and start pumping Dex up to at least 20. Move on to the fort. Speedrun for the Half Talisman of Dectus, and the Soreseal. Turn around, head south. Bleed the dragon to death. Grab a ton of runes. Max out basic arrows at a nearby vendor. Do a little horse exploration, grab Numen's Rune from the Tower of Caelid, along with all runes in the area - and then buy a shortbow. Usual material route to get it to around +6 or so, grab other half of the amulet from Fort Haight. Speedrun through Weeping Peninsula for Golden Seeds, grab the poison mist incant, buy as many Kukris as you wish from the Mourne Rampart vendor, then take the shortcut to Liurel. Seeds, unlock the lift, more seeds, grab seeds from outside capital, unlock merchant bonfire up top for Golden Arrows.
Cheese Margit and Godfrey with your normal shortbow. Ez pz, can summon if you're chicken. But with 40 vigor, it's really hard to die. Equip and activate Godrick's Great Rune. You now have the stats for Poison Mist. Head to outside the capital, top of the map, sneak around slowly behind the Draconic Tree Sentinel. With 6 azure flasks, poison mist him to death from behind for the ultimate 0 effort cheese. Takes 12 minutes or so, but you can afk while doing it to browse memes/youtube. Buy a variety of arrows with his runes, or get back on that level grind (I recommend stockpiling arrows). If you've unlocked the West Dragon bonfire north of Caelid, grab poison arrows by the dozen, along with some fire arrows in Central Caelid. Time check: Around 1:30 in, much less if you don't mess around with multiplayer.
Grab the key to the Academy, and grab your second great rune from the easy boss there. Enter the capital. Grab the black bow. Find, or buy, the upgrades to +5 black bow, then do the Caelid Crystal Mines dungeon for the +6. With this much progress, Radahn is available to fight. Surprisingly, he's super easy with arrows - poison him or hit him with Rot, maybe even make Rotbone arrows. The black bow works like a shortbow, and even has barrage - but has Longbow damage. Once you kill him (likely on your first try), make his greatbow. His weapon art is your crowd control.
Progress through the game and focus on leveling dex. You're now vastly overpowered, and you have a great crowd control bow, too. Be sure to drop the Soreseal later on for the Archery Talisman in Caelid, as the +10% damage done outweighs the stats late game. You're welcome.

I think Dragonbarrow isn't too far off from a new player's perspective, and easy enough to do - if not recommended for the Golden Seeds alone. But first timers definitely shouldn't try this - it's not organic. I didn't include Volcano Manor to reach a super high tier, either - though I totally should have. How are you getting Rotbone arrows before Radahn?

    • @SariatheFrostMage
      @SariatheFrostMage 2 года назад +1

@@ExtremeBoyheat You can purchase the Nomadic Warrior's Cookbook (15) in Caelid. You'll find it on the southern, central half of Caelid's map, directly beneath the rotten lake - inside of the upside triangle part of the roads, sold by a nomadic merchant for 4k runes.
Additionally, you can find the Bone Peddler's Bell in the Warmaster's Shack, which is East of Stormveil Castle. If you exhaust the Warmaster's dialogue and buy a few weapon arts, if you pass time until night - then rest again - an optional boss called the Bellbearing Hunter will appear where the Warmaster is typically idle. He's a tough fight in any of the four locations he spawns, but if you keep your distance and always roll his attacks, you'll melt him.
Finally, you don't *really* need a greatbow. It's just for openers and stagger in PvE, or knockback in PvP. The black bow will carry you through the whole game. I recommend that if you intend to do pure bow, keep in mind that the Black Bow is a D/D scaling weapon - but also always requires two hands to fire, and thus will benefit off of 1.5x strength (you can confirm this with any greatbow you lack the strength for - 2handing at 15 strength will give you enough power for Radhan's Lionbow). At 27 strength, wielding a bow in both hands will give you 40 effective strength - thus you don't need to invest as harshly into it as you do Dex. So you have a little more wiggle room for other points - I recommend either some AoE spells, or personally, I would go with Beastial Faith Spells and minor buffs. Since you have only a minor amount of wiggle room, and a fair amount of strength (27 on one hand), you'll find you get the most mileage there.
My stat recommendations are going to include whatever armor you're planning to wear, so if it gives stats, include that.
40 vigor minimum (spare points goes here)
18 mind (if you have no plans for support spells/minor aoe, you can leave this at base)
30 endurance (heavier armor is better, and this is a great place to start)
27 strength (this is non-optional. You are a quality build with 27 strength/40 dex)
      40 dex (non-optional)
Base Int (Int spells require a lot of investment for payoff, I would avoid these)
27 Faith (gives you enough faith for most of the spells, without being a massive point hog. Optional.)
If you don't do faith, put those levels into other stats, or Arcane. You should cap out around level 120, which is usually the agreed level for Elden Ring PvP.

The bows work as a weapon to take out enemies out at range so you do not have to fight a whole group. The bows work for this. It very easy to have whole arrow collection by mid game because you can buy arrows and bones from merchant. What they need to do is boost the scaling of the bows.

@@keeganbate8935 Yeah there is so many things that lower the damage of bows. Faster bows work better up close while med to long bows do more damage but slower at range. This is because arrows have fall off damage so you cannot be too far without losing damage. Most scaling of bows is so low that you cannot get a lot of bonus damage from stats. You have to make or buy a lot arrows but it easy to lose a lot of arrows. Enemies can just walk left and then right for you to miss your shots when auto lock. It takes a lot of work to use a bow but it much easier to use throwing knives and they scale better and do better damage.

It really depends on what sort of bow you end up maining. For example, the Lion Greatbow from Radahn's remembrance is a quality bow, while the Horn bow here scales with Intelligence and dexterity. You could also farm up a golem's greatbow pretty early, which is a nice strength scaling bow. I would say maybe pick the bow you want to use based on the off hand melee weapon you might want to support it. Beyond that, I would say Endurance is a good stat as you consume huge quantities of stamina, particularly if you are going for a rapid fire playstyle using animation cancels with jumps/rolls.

I've found it impossible to PURELY be a bow user and stay viable late game. That said, making liberal use of multiple bows with different ashes in your build and an appropriate weapon for your build is rife potential, notably in invasions.
For my case, I am a Dexterity/Intelligence build with Moon Veil as my melee armament. My bows are Horned Bow with the Enchanted Shot ash of war and the Albinauric Bow with the Rain of Arrows ash of war. I also have Staff of Loss as a left hand armament and Lusat's Staff on one of my right hand slots, one for casting support spells like Terra Magica and one for damage, specifically for Loretta's Sorceries as I will count those as bows, mostly useful for bosses. My talisman load is as follows; Shard of Alexander, Magic Scorpion, Arrows Reach, and Arrows Sting, the first two being just as useful for Moon Veil as it is Horn Bow. I am also wearing the White Reeds armor set with no headpiece. I carry all of this with just 20 endurance and still maintain a medium weight load, and I can make myself light with a Winged Crystal Tear, my other tear obviously being the Magic Cracked Tear.
    Level: 150
    25 Vigor
    20 Endurance
    66 Dexterity
    60 Intelligence
And I am actually questioning if I should remove 5 points of vigor and throw that into dex, because I already one shot a lot of people with Moon Veil because they try to take advantage of a bow's weakness, especially those rushing in with River's of Blood if they aren't using an Uplifting Aromatic.
My use of Moon Veil can be summarized as this, or I'd want to believe it as such.
"You use Moon Veil to run up and assault me, I use Moon Veil when you run up to assault me, we are not the same". To me, Moon Veil feels even more fun to use in an all or nothing gambit when arrows can't get the job done, or perhaps, when the arrows are doing their job. With some practice, aside from Horn Bow arrows homing on targets to pressure opponents, you can use rain of arrows as they attempt to hide behind cover to hopefully flush them out. Do it all right and they will want to rush you, which you can either run away and shoot or prepare your Moon Veil for the decisive attack or attacks. Running away towards monster mobs is also a good option if it's available, and it's even easier to hit with arrows when your opponent is focused on avoiding the maw of a giant deformed canine, and I would recommend this approach for any hosts that you see are wearing notably heavy armor sets that you understand can't be obliterated by Moon Veil's Ash of War or you're seeing very liberal use of Bloodhound Step, which is another reason to suggest the Winged Crystal Tear in your physick bottle.
This leads me to a question, if I want more places to invade where I can use overworld enemies to assist me, SHOULD I jump to NG+? Or will I drastically reduce the pool of players I can invade in the process? I personally don't like the idea of invading Liurnia or Limgrave knowing that all the monsters can be one or two shot out of existence and then have a bunch of people message me to tell me to invest in vigor like it is gospel as they run around places in co-op for no other reason than to invite invaders to squat and tea-bag over. My most successful invasions have always been in late game areas with either tough enemies or limited movement like the Haligtree Canopy.

Bow builds should never be considered for 1st run completions. They are challenge run builds. Like you said, the scaling, materials, and equipment just aren"t there until NG+ and on.

It's just not meant to work. From really needs to fix the scaling on a lot of weapons, there is not a good balance at all. Even the Black Bow is still D scaling, and that was traditionally an S DEX bow. I've been watching Phemeto do his playthrough as bow only and it's slow going, lots of farming for part or ruins to buy arrows, every boss takes 3 times as long to beat. He posted videos showing it's not impossible, but it's gonna be painful. Best bow to use is the Golem Greatbow, it has the highest scaling out of every bow in the game and it's in STR, it's better than Radhan's even, which is bonkers that a boss weapon should ever have worse stats than a regular bow.

Elden Ring really just added bows and their ash of wars to check a box. They put very little effort into them and it’s so easy to make them viable by just having them scale.

I don't understand why they wouldn't just add proper scaling to bows? It's not like it would be OP and would easily open up more options for players. And more ashes of war, like maybe option to shotgun 3 arrows at once or something that spreads out the longer the range which would be a decent swap for barrage etc.
Bows were just left in the dark again, which is weird because they bothered with the crafting etc?

My favorite place for flight pinions is the same SOG in Caelid where you get the Arrow's Reach talisman - the Impassable Greatbridge. There are 3 of the little penguin-type birds there just a couple feet from the SOG so it's SUPER quick to kill, rest (better yet, fast travel -- unless you're using a fowl foot, in which case you want to rest rather than travel), repeat. I use Glintstone Arc, with which I can kill all 3 birds in one hit -- just takes a little practice getting the right distance / spot and being able to sneak up without frightening them. You can also use Whirl, O Flame! the same way, but I think Glintstone Arc works better and more reliably for getting them all at once, or you can use Glintstone Pebble or Flame Sling to get them one at a time, and with a little practice you won't scare the others away (I think Flame Sling works best for that). I like using those birds because they also have a high rate of dropping Fowl Feets.
Occasionally I also farm the Warhawks by Rampart Tower in Stormveil Castle, but those have such a low drop rate they get depressing. I use Glintstone Pebble to kill those, and I think it's more efficient to just get the first 3 and skip the fourth one that's behind the building at the end. Using spells to kill the birds lets you NOT use your precious arrows, and is obviously more efficient than using arrows to make arrows.
If your build is more Faith than Intelligence, you can use the Staff of the Guilty for your occasional Sorcery -- it uses Faith rather than Intelligence. You can get that by farming the one fire monk who stands outside the fire monk village up in Liurnia by the Eastern Tableland SOG. The monk in question is just to the west of the village. There are also several fire slugs around that village, so you can use that area for farming smouldering butterflies, too, and 3 birds just north of the monk, so you can pick up a few flight pinions each iteration as well. And even a handful of sheep, so you can grab some bones while you're at it. Great farming area. Plus, you can raid that village itself once for the Flame, Cleanse Me enchantment, which is VERY helpful all around Caelid, and in particular for getting through the Abandoned Cave, where you can pick up the Serpent Bow. (Which I know isn't part of the particular build in the video, but others will definitely want to consider as an option, or as an addition. My own preference is Serpent Bow until I can get the Black Bow later in the game.)
Before I started using the Eastern Tableland for farming Smouldering Butterflies, I used to Liurnia Lake Shore merchant. He just has 1 Butterfly (sometimes 2) at his campfire, but he also has several other crafting materials right there (mushroom, fruit, flower) and 3 birds, so I would pick up all those items, rest & repeat, and wind up with my inventory full of several things. Any extra crafting materials, you can sell for runes, so it never hurts to grab extra when you have a chance. Seems like most of my smithing, merchant purchases, and the like tend to be paid for half with excess crafting materials.
For Poisonblooms, the best place is Waypoint Ruins. Use the SOG in the Cellar. Run upstairs, kill the big flower, kill the small ones, go round the corner to where there are 2 more small flowers in a narrow hallway and get those, fast travel back to the SOG and repeat. Very quick, 5-7 Poisonblooms each iteration.
For roses, the rose church: Use the Fallen Ruins on the Lake SOG just to the east, gallop over, and just where you hit the rose church island, turn left and there are 2 small poison flowers you can kill for the occasional Poisonbloom. Hop up from there toward the church (/center of the island) and grab the crystal bud on your left. Turn due north and go a few feet -- just off the coast of the island is the first Bloodrose. Then trot into the church and grab the rose from the middle of the church first, then turn to the right and get 1 or 2, then turn left and get the ones closest to the entrance, then I think about 3 more along that left side farther from the entrance, and as you get those the invader enemy will be spawning in beside you, so jump over him to grab the final rose from behind him and run out of the church and away back toward the SOG in the east, or just run around the perimeter of the island, until the game releases you from combat mode and lets you fast travel the rest of the way to the SOG. Repeat. (Or yeah, you can let the enemy kill you.) You get 9-10 roses each round.
For Glintstone Fireflies for magic arrows -- and I can't believe you didn't mention this place! -- the best place is Lenne's Rise over in Caelid. You can get there as early in the game as you like -- take the teleporer from behind the 3rd church of Marika to the Bestial Sanctum, run down the road to the Farum Greatbridge SOG, take the path off to the left/east and run down on your horse across the smaller/lower bridge (you will hit poison traps but just keep running until you hit the Lenne's Rise SOG). You can farm the ball that rolls down the hill there (check RUclips for how, of course) and on each round, grab several Glintstone Fireflies. I tend to go there whenever I've got about halfway or so to the next level and run out of things I can easily do without risking my increasing number of runes to an inconvenient death. I farm until I can level up, and I wind up with hundreds of spare Glintstone Fireflies in the process. And a few (I think faded?) Erdleaf Flowers, too.
I also did a test on farming for runes to buy beast bones vs. farming for sheep. Using Lenne's Rise to farm for runes to buy the bones is MUCH quicker. For me, it took 16% of the time to farm the runes as it did to farm the sheep. And that's even with picking up the bonus Glintstone Fireflies, too. (For my purposes at the time, I just counted the Fireflies as a bonus, but really, if I added in the time I would need to spend getting the Fireflies for fire arrows to the time spent farming sheep -- or if I did a test *without* picking up the FIreflies -- it would bring that 16% even lower.) That's the key, really -- the 150 runes per beast bone translates to 45 runes per arrow (for the base part of the arrow, before you add the magic bit), which sounds a bit pricy. BUT runes aren't the base currency you need to think of. You need to translate it to TIME. Then it makes more sense. Or another way of thinking of it is that runes are a lot cheaper once you have Lenne's Rise, where you can get 2000 runes in seconds any time you like, as many times as you like.
The one exception is the basic, non-magic arrows. It makes more sense to just buy those for 20 runes than to make them for 45. And you will want some of those, to use to finish off enemies when you've already brought them low. Many times an enemy needs 1 or 2 power shot fire or magic arrow(s) and 1 regular arrow just to finish it off. So I tend to keep fire (usually) or magic (when I'm facing enemies that resist fire) in one slot and regular arrows in the other, and switch the regular to poison or even serpent arrows when going against most bosses (assuming the boss can be poisoned).

For the pinions, The Four Belfries site of grace is better IMO. As soon as you get up from the grace, you'll see three falcons right away on some rocks. Kill them, get the pinions, sit again, repeat. Fastest farm IMO.

    • @Angi_Mathochist

@UraBless If you only care about flight pinions, then yes, that one will be better than the impassable greatbridge one, because the falcons/ eagles have a higher pinion drop rate than the penguins (whatever their actual name is - I always just remember that it sounds French). BUT I prefer the Caelid one because the penguins have a higher drop rate for fowl feet. So at that site, I'm getting plenty of pinions fast AND tons of fowl feet at the same time.

New to the game. Started a Vagabond. Would that class work for this build? I did the math and it seems like the area I would really miss out on is Arcane which I know effects discovery rate. But, is that really worth it or would this build be just as viable with the vagabond?

One thing I think fromsoft should focus on now is perfecting the bow combat in their next game since they have everything so far on point they got stuff like dark souls with it’s slow and strategical approach they got demon souls where you have to also make very strategic decisions then you have Bloodborne where you have to pretty much play like a maniac on coke. Then you have Sekiro where you literally need to unlock the ultra instinct and stand toe to toe with the likes of Jiren 😂 and then you have Elden ring where you learned all that from the previous from soft games and employ all these strategies into your own play style. I can’t wait to see what comes next from this studio!!!

Even worse than trying to do a bow only build is trying to do a crossbow only build lol, crossbows really got neglected this game. No jump shots, no rolling shots. You're completely restricted to the slow walking speed when shooting and reloading

Has anyone tried to make an actual magical archer build? One that uses bows and magic attacks/effects more evenly? Even if just a summoned sword or some aoe that deters enemies from approaching and then a bow for the rest... Idk maybe that would be too stat intensive

So basically saying range damage is dependent on what level your bow is? Cause I got 60 dex and 30 str and I hit quite hard but not as hard as I would like….

One really gotta wonder why they hate bows to much that they are completely neglected with most talismans, have bad base damage, shit scaling ... It's hard enough to hit enemies and players with them as it is, for god's sake, buff them!
