  • The weather was balmy all over the island on Friday. But that is set to change starting Saturday on the east coast, with heavy showers expected in Yilan. By Monday, a front will sweep in bringing overcast skies islandwide, with the strongest effects to be felt on Tuesday. The plum rain front won’t ease until at least Thursday. Let’s hear from a forecaster.
    Kuan Shin-ping
    CWA forecaster
There are some cloud systems developing in the South China Sea, as well as to the east of the Philippines. The lower levels don’t have a rotating pattern yet, so the chances of it strengthening into a tropical storm are relatively low.
Forecasters say the plum rain fronts will bring showers to Taiwan until mid-June this year. Even if a tropical storm or typhoon were to form nearby, its impact on Taiwan’s plum rain season wouldn’t be too big.
