    I can't stress enough: this is one of the most unique places on Earth. The Geometry of the inlay work everywhere in conversation with every angle you can see. There are endless perspectives to consider. It is meant to help you reflect on your own thoughts and not jump to conclusions; it's a reminder to the rulers burdened with decisions to weigh things carefully and justly.

      The level of engineering and mathematics used to build this was far advanced for the time.

    This is National Geographic level Angel--thanks so much for this. I think it will do an excellent job at putting the monument in context for a ton of travelers going to Granada.

    Hey, quick question. You have mentioned in this and other videos that it is required to purchase separate tickets for the different palaces/ buildings in the Alhambra. I just went to their website and bought the general ticket which I assume gives you access to all of the places, right? I just wanted to double check that information with you before I make any mistakes. Thanks for the video, very informative and well done!

      Some tickets are sold separately. Double check the website to see what it includes and where else you need a ticket. Happy Travels.

    How can you state there are no depictions of living things in the Nazarid Palace when there are 12 lions in the fountain and the Sala de Los Reyes depicts ten kings?

    • @TheTourGuyVids
      @TheTourGuyVids  Год назад +1

      In Islamic art, it is generally avoided to depict living beings, such as humans and animals, in a realistic manner. I was referring to the mosaics. This practice is rooted in the religious belief that creating realistic representations of living creatures might lead to idolatry or the worship of created beings instead of Allah.
      However, there are some exceptions to this rule, especially in secular and non-religious contexts. The depiction of animals, including lions, in Islamic art is more acceptable when they are stylized or abstracted representations rather than lifelike portrayals. The lions in the Fountain of Lions at the Alhambra Palace are an example of such stylized representations, where the lions are more symbolic and decorative rather than realistic.
      Additionally, during the Nasrid Dynasty in Spain, Islamic art had some influences from earlier Islamic and pre-Islamic cultures, as well as from the broader cultural context of the Iberian Peninsula. These influences might have contributed to the inclusion of certain animal motifs, like the lions in the Fountain of Lions, in the art and architecture of the Alhambra Palace.

      Yes I know about the proscription against depicting living things in Islamic law. Dig deeper. The lions were a gift to the king of Granada from his Jewish subjects. The Sala de Los Reyes is a total breach of Islamic law. It speaks to the moral decline of the family. These are very interesting features of the Alhambra. My point was that you made a blanket statement that your film then contradicted.
