Be careful taking out the web in the exhaust it's there to keep the rings from opening or uncompressing and catching the port opening also if the piston is short skirted at high rpms the piston can actually cock into the port. I used to have a Suzuki quadzilla 500 and it actually broke that web out at high rpm and the piston hit the top of the port and bent the crank and broke the case. I have also made my exhaust port to wide on a 390xp and had the rings open up and catch the top of the port. Just somethings to think about I know it's a rare saw with rare parts. By the way love your channel I'm a logger from North central PA. My Dad, Younger brother, and I logger together for 16 years now.
Got me an old p51. Need to learn more about piston and cylinder wear as I am concerned that the piston is worn . Thanks for all the work you do in teaching as old farts.
Take one part logger, one part moto-rider, shake until chill. Moto 2 cycle performance tricks, applied to a logging saw. Incredible; lot of knowledge about both domains. Thanks for sharing this.
Hi Harvey, I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and lifelongs experience with us here on RUclips. Your reaching people that are further away than the end of your road! Just want to know I greatly appreciate your time and what you do whether it be saws or bikes. Love these little gems of info, you can't get that anywhere else and know that it is not lost on us. Once again thanks Harvey. 👍👌
I got a name for it Johnny cash you know the song that name came from this is going to be a neat build I get to watch you on the R&D then buckin cutting up the big wood it's a 2for on the same saw I am excited 😁
I knew those older saws had reeds in them, but I did not know what they looked like. That one looks like a mouth piece off a clarinet. I had an old 7.5 hp Montgomery Ward boat motor made by Clinton (gosh, when is the last time you saw a Clinton engine?) I used to see them on the old Yazoo law mowers, but I believe they were 4 cycle. Anyway, the reed on the Clinton boat motor was made of stainless steel and looked like a daisy (flower). I was down Cedar Bayou (I lived in Texas then) and the darn thing swallowed one of the petals of the daisy reed. Good thing I had a trolling motor and a good battery.
I watched all of your videos, and about the comments and getting back to them on-time...it's no big deal, we know you're busy, IronHorse. Happy Prosperous and healthy New year to you and your Family!
Can’t wait to hear it fired up. I love watching these steps. I must admit I don’t have the mechanical no-how, but you can’t blame a guy for hangin around, learning a few new words and supporting the community. lol
See that bridge in there? In that exhaust? We're getting rid of that bridge! I don't want no darned bridge! Harv love ya man! Peace and love to you and the family all the best for 2020! ✌️❤️
I just know Buckin will be tickled with it! Love your videos Harvey! Best of the New Year to you & your family. We come here for you, the great knowledge we get from you is just a bonus! Edmonton, AB. CAN.
Happy New Year to you. Can't wait for your next idea. Kids will be thrilled when you show up to talk. I know I would. Thanks for a great year of saws and stories. You're the best.
Great videos thank you for showing or talking about what you will be doing to the Reed's. Was curious where you sand down the Reed's to help them flow better. Also thanks for going over the timing and duration on other saws.
Little bit of fab work that sucker is going to work Harvey that the fun in trying out different stuff I'll bet that saw is going to scream hot dang can't wait
Really enjoy this channel. Your one of the few that shares your knowledge on the saws. I like the other saw builders channels to but you just go the extra step in explaining. Thanks and happy new year
Interesting build harv. That saw is going to rip. Look forward to seeing the rest of the build and hearing it take off. Hope your new year off great as well 👍
Great job Harvey! That will be an unbelievable logging saw when it's finished. Can't wait to see it. I'm sure buckin will love it !! Happy New year everyone!! This saw will start it off with a big bang!!
Looks like it´s going to be a wild "little" saw that one - well 80 something cc is not little but it´s probably going to act more like a 100 cc + machine. Love it Ironhorse :-)
My uncle Hank s c h e b o r work at Town & Country Hardware in Michigan. They were on McAuliffe chainsaw dealership. Plus Toro. That's the type of people I grew up with. They are hard to find anymore.
it strikes me that you have thinned the reed, as to let it flex more easily thus increasing the flow; do you have a guesstimate of how much it is thinned down..20% ..10 % ? also wondering how much of the reed ( in length ) did you thin down?50% 75%
Hey ironhorse, im studying a p41 to port it and am wondering about cutting those skirts around the transfers in regards to supporting the piston skirt? Arent those 2 areas critical because of the direction the piston in this style of saw? I thought about cutting those skirts but i t looks like they support the piston skirt heavily. What is your wisdom on this?
I had a p p60 a p 61 and a p 62 all of them built they ran a little hot I gave them away in 2000 I thought I was done Fallen Timbers and I have the Husky 2100 built twice it couldn't beat my slowest P saw so the dealer had to pay for the build any was the pioneer dealer before he a husky dealer couldn't believe it I didn't have the heart to tell him it was my slowest saw them babies ran the person who built them with the best around who were the saws were his unfortunately got killed in a truck accident and I ended up with the saws one that had never been ran who's planning on racing it I don't I don't know if it's my imagination but I don't think I've ran a faster cutting saw or maybe I was just younger
Howdy Harvey!! I've got a p42 with a smashed up reed block, Do you happen to know of or have a replacement p42 reed block I could buy? Thanks ither way love your videos!!
Hi Harvey ! I was informed by one of me agents the boys on “OPE” got a thread started about ya and they aren’t being very kind to say the least ! I guess Ol bird legs (mastermind) got a little hot under the collar about the tear down video featuring his saw with the WAY overtorqued jug bolt ... these guys are keyboard warriors who don’t like nobody that knows as much (or more) about saws and if they view you as a threat to their “grind and shine” saw porting business they will lie cheat , character assassinate etc etc ... a few years ago (before getting “banned” ( like a give a f)) Ol bird legs shot his big tapper off in me direction ... well he light a fire under my ass and now it’s clobbering time ! I’ll build any newer STIHL 241c,261c,362c,462c ,461,660 or 661c and the Newer 572xp for 10% less than mastermind and you’ll get a quicker saw ... heck he can’t even stay with Hotsaws101 😀 ... He’s got a snowballs chance in hell against Fabz acres and I’ll GUARANTEE that statement AND the saws ... peace ✌️ link opeforum.com/threads/iron-horse-chainsaws.18681/

See that bridge in there?

I seriously need to get your present to you iron horse
COOL VIDEO SO EVERY ONE LETS GIV OL IRONHORSE A BIG THUMBS UP LOL OH MY NAME IS CHRIS NOT WHAT YOU SEE
Very interseted in this reed valve build wondering how much more you can push your timing with this
Harvey, do you like Poulan? That almost looks like a Poulan 225 behind you on the shelf. Its looks green but I think it might be the lighting.
Hi Mr. Iron horse. I was just wondering where you are located. Thinking about sending you a saw or two to look over.
Southern Tier NY, send him an email. Ironhorsechainsaw@gmail.com
Thank You Marshy
Great video sir! Have a question, what size bar can you run on a 60 cc saw, plus a 54cc saw? Great videos thanks
I run a 24" bar on my ported 60cc Jonsered 2159.
Hey Harvey you should build a dirt bike with a chainsaw on the front of it!
If u cut the bridge out, does that mean u have to use a piston with ring pins in it?
it strikes me that you have thinned the reed, as to let it flex more easily thus increasing the flow; do you have a guesstimate of how much it is thinned down..20% ..10 % ? also wondering how much of the reed ( in length ) did you thin down?50% 75%
Ironhorse how you

How do I get a hold of you to send my P51 for similar work?
I had a p p60 a p 61 and a p 62 all of them built they ran a little hot
I gave them away in 2000 I thought I was done Fallen Timbers and I have the Husky 2100 built twice it couldn't beat my slowest P saw so the dealer had to pay for the build any was the pioneer dealer before he a husky dealer couldn't believe it I didn't have the heart to tell him it was my slowest saw them babies ran the person who built them with the best around who were the saws were his unfortunately got killed in a truck accident and I ended up with the saws one that had never been ran who's planning on racing it I don't I don't know if it's my imagination but I don't think I've ran a faster cutting saw or maybe I was just younger
Interesting story...but I'm out of breath reading this, man. Punctuation, man..that's what sentences, paragraphs, periods, etc. are for. :)
Howdy Harvey!! I've got a p42 with a smashed up reed block, Do you happen to know of or have a replacement p42 reed block I could buy? Thanks ither way love your videos!!
