She quite clearly took a stand, and that was the stand of choice. She said that hijaab is a matter of choice, if one wants to wear do it, if one doesn't then she wouldn't wear. You aren't a stakeholder when it comes to decide clothing of some other person. That was a knockout punch on far right terrorists by nikhat.

Beginning was good but later the interviewer showed her true PRINT agenda by asking toxic, irrelevant questions to a sportsperson who has made India proud but however much interview er tried to rake up controversy,Nikhat showed showed great poise, but the line of questioning has definitely left bad taste .

Good luck to her...But she wasted a golden chance to say that she is true Bharatiya, and taken a stand against oppression. I was disappointed to hear her answer! She said it's a "choice". She should have said straightaway that it's a patriachal oppression symbol and one should not wear it..period. Here 'choice wala answer is a typical woke answer. Now my worry is that she will take up all liberal causes being in the limelight and trend towards wokeism..which is a disease. Unlike other achiever like the badminton team, chess champ pragg etc who are more truer to Indian ethos.

@@IITianProudIndian it is a choice for girls who grow up in liberal muslim families. I don't think Shah Rukh Khan asks his daughter to wear the hijab n she doesn't bcuz it's her choice but she can choose to n I don't think Shah Rukh would object. Are such cases not choices?

11:45 is such a loaded and useless question. She is of course never going to say hijab is regressive in a media interview, neither can she take a position that hijab can't be matter of choice. The interviewer is more interested in political headlines rather than genuinely wanting to know Nikhat's journey. You wasted half of the interview in Hindu-Muslim. Nikhat is pride of India, wish her all the best and really hope she gets us a gold in Olympics and continues to inspire millions of boys and girls to get into sports.

Imagine Manusmriti saying women need to wear Ghoonghat in presence of un related Men. And we all can imagine what the so called Liberal and Women Rights Brigade shall do to such a Diktat by a religious Hindu Text!

Hijab is not a religious issue? Very funny.
On March 11, 2002, 15 young girls were left to die in a fire at their school in Mecca. They could have escaped the fire but were not allowed to flee the burning building as they were not wearing proper hijab. Saudi Arabia’s Religious Police prevented the Civil Defense Officers from entering the school to save the girls and stopped the girls from coming out of the building.
