There are plenty of problems it solves and you would have to be very foolish to believe the industry would be worth multiple trillions of dollars at this stage if it didn't solve problems. Creating trust-less applications cuts out middlemen and usually saves time for users. Defi borrowing as an example lets you borrow against collateral without having to use the time and energy going to the bank and also does so for a lower fee and better interest rate. The main point is when you save one hour in that process for one person, on the scale of millions you just saved millions of hours. That's millions of hours of time that can now be used for other things. Also if you have less people required to operate a bank as a result then the bank workers can do other things. Maybe a would be banker in that world becomes a scientist and cures a strain of leukemia. Blockchain is just another software service to save time in the end like everything else.
Nah. I think its pretty helpfull. The problem is the fact that people use it for the dumbest fucking shit possible lmfao. NFTs would be cool if we could use it to trade skins on games, or to store financial securities. But nah, mfs instead use it for some shitty monkey art.

If you have SVG art then you can embed it directly into smart contract. No need for IPFS or web2 servers to host images. You can make the images completely decentralized (which invalidates Moxie's argument that you mentioned in the beginning).
It looks like all this NFT thing is a perpetual way of buying and selling stuff just to make some money without any real-world use case. (except for art that is not randomly generated and which is really beautiful)

I'm so excited you're starting to cover Web 3.0. Concise, high quality information, in well edited visual form is basically non existent in the blockchain world. You also bring a a very balanced attitude that doesn't drink all the Web 3 kool-aid, but you also don't resist the fact that it's definitely "a thing now" that's here to stay most likely (and evolve).
For me it's nicer to see you explaining stuff than actually building it myself. I mean, i don't understand why there is so much hype around web3, it's clearly more complicated then deploy a simple web2 app. You need too much tooling just to do one simple thing. You need to learn a programming language and all that. How is this gonna replace a `heroky deploy` ? i seriosly don't know. Although i don't see web3 as the future of the web i really think it's nice to learn from you, you touched many stuff like IPFS, react and even solidity in a really short video, that's actualy awesome. keep up the good work
I'm also in favor of web2, but I think the two main draws to web3 that people often point to are the decentralization of the data and safer login/authentication. IIRC, data like posts and comments are distributed across many different machines owned by anyone, and not on some datacenter servers of a privacy-invading corporation. As for logging in, you don't use email + password (and 2FA), you use your anonymous crypto wallet address to identify you. The downsides are that transactions in web3 are slower because the data may be spread across 1000+ machines worldwide, and also that North Korea alone managed to steal $400 million from crypto wallets last year, so even using wallet addresses for authentication can be dangerous (it feels like you're logging in to an app using your bank account, which should sound like a bad idea to anyone). For now, I'm going to watch web3 either mature or flop...

Although the data is passed through some centralized server during its consumption, it still doesn't prove that there isn't security. As you can just go on to the chain and look up the transaction and verify the data on the chain. Here, you can easily verify if the data has been tampered with or not. By the way, thanks man, this video is a complete book (package) all summarized.
Great video! But lol the whole thing reminds me of the NFT series recently where you were able to check out which was going to be minted next by just incrementing one of the attributes. So you’d know when to mint as you’d know when the rare one was coming.
