Steps to Pair JBL Flip 5 with Bluetooth Device: 0:53

The JBL Flip 5 is an impressive portable Bluetooth speaker that packs a lot of power into a tiny body. The device supports Bluetooth 4.2, offers up to 12 hours of playback, and lets you connect multiple JBL Bluetooth speakers together (through JBL PartyBoost only -- not JBL Connect or JBL Connect+). However, none of that does you any good if you don't have a device paired with it. In this video I'll show you how to pair your JBL Flip 5 with another Bluetooth device, using my iPhone as an example. I'll also talk through what specifically you'll need to do in the most recent version of Android.
And now let's walk through the steps to pair your JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker with other Bluetooth devices.
Step 1. Locate the Power and Bluetooth buttons in the center of the plastic bar that runs along the back of the portable Bluetooth speaker.
Step 2. Make sure your JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker is powered on. If the speaker is turned on, you'll see a blue backlight behind the outline of the Power button. Additionally, check to see if the blue backlight behind the Bluetooth button is solid or blinking. If the blue backlight behind the Bluetooth button is solid, then your Flip 5 is already paired with another device, which is fine because you can pair it with multiple devices. If the blue backlight behind the Bluetooth button is blinking, then the device is in Discovery mode and you can skip the next step and move to Step 4.
Step 3. Press the "Bluetooth" button next to the Power button in the center of the plastic bar that runs along the back of the portable Bluetooth speaker if the Bluetooth button's blue backlight is solid to move forward with pairing another device. The JBL Flip 5 will immediately make the following pinging sound, and the Bluetooth button's blue backlight will start flashing, indicating that the device is in Discovery mode. The speaker will remain in Discovery mode until it either runs out of battery life or you power it down.
Step 4. Ensure that the ability to connect to a Bluetooth device is enabled on the device you want to connect to the JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker, and then view the list of available Bluetooth devices you can connect to. For example, on an iPhone, you would navigate to "Settings" and then "Bluetooth" to display the Bluetooth screen, and then slide the toggle to the right of Bluetooth to the right side of the screen to ensure it is enabled. On the most recent version of Android, you would need to go into the Settings app on your device, tap "Connected Devices," then "Connection Preferences," and then "Bluetooth" to arrive at the Bluetooth screen, and then make sure Bluetooth is toggled on.
Step 4. You should see JBL Flip 5 in the list of available devices to connect to. Tap "JBL Flip 5." The device should immediately show as connected on your device screen. Additionally, the JBL Flip 5 will indicate it has been successfully paired with a Bluetooth device when it makes the following short sound and the backlight for the Bluetooth button stops flashing.

Is it compatible with an iPad Air? I have Bluetooth 4.0.
If I'm on Wifi in my home, and I'm listening to music which is blue toothed from my phone to the Flip 5, my wifi gets kicked off. Any idea why this happens? The music continues to play, but everyone in the home who's using wifi, gets kicked off.

I don't think you can do it on the Flip 5. You could do that on the Flip 4, but not on this one. At least not that I'm aware of.

When I connect my LGK51 to the JBL flip 5, it is always a choppy connection and I can't figure out why. The music goes in and out never smooth. Any reason why?

Good question. I would assume so, but you may need to use the JBL app to force that. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

When I hit the Bluetooth button on mine the whole speaker just shuts off and it’s not discoverable on my iPhone nor can I put it in discovery mode for any device

Unfortunately there is some issue on JBL Flip 3 or 5 that begins when you connect to another JBL, then you can never connect to it again. Crap.
So what do you do when you do all that successfully and still cannot hear anything?
The volume on your Flip 5 may possibly be turned all the way down. I'm thinking mine was when I first unboxed it and paired up with my Android phone. Check that, by repeatedly pressing the + button on the back. Hope that helps you! Flip 5 is a great little speaker!

What do you do, When your device is connected but music keeps playing through the phone. Instead of the speaker itself?
Go into Bluetooth on phone, where you see JBL Flip 5, click the circled letter i. You can toggle media playback there.
My jbl flip 5 light is white also my an android phone saids there is an error
My light is completely off. It'll light up when I press the bluetooth button but it doesn't blink or stay on. What could be the issue. It was working two days ago, then suddenly nothing and I can't reconnect it to my phone.

Weird. Sometimes you have to change the audio output in the app you’re using to tell it to play audio through a connected Bluetooth device. That happens for me occasionally. Not sure what causes it. Look for a Signal icon to tap and change the Bluetooth output.
@@MaxDalton apparently the problem is specific to the app iMPC PRO from Akai, that does not seem to put out to any bluetooth device

My bluetooth button doesn't have a blacklite. It doesn't do the ping sound either if I try to put the speaker in discovery mode. I've tried to do a hard reset of the device, to no avail. Does anyone know a way to fix this?
I have the same issue. I can do a hard reset and connect one device to it. Then I am unable to connect another phone. The speaker doesn't do anything when pressing the Bluetooth button even when the first connected device is turned off. Did you find a solution?

Yeah but guess what? I got this for my girlfriend on Christmas and she paired her phone to it so now I want to use it it says I have to connect via "Martha". She has to click accept on the confirmation notice and if she leaves the room and her phone leaves the room I can't use the speaker. So I guess they design these things for only one person to be within a ten-foot radius of it?

If you're TV has a 3.5mm audio jack, that's probably the best option. The other option would be to see if your TV allowed for Bluetooth connections.
My Flip 5 is paired with my laptop running Windows 11 but it won't stay connected. I have now problems when using Linux. Windows blows!
