I agree 100% with your observation, (U.S. Airmen in the comment section) not about Trujillo, but about the "esprit de corps". 32 Years in the Army and from an Intel point of view, I feel sorry for the country. This is RUclips, viewed all over the world, any foreign country watching can tell these are not "Soldiers, Marines, nor Airman. These are people mostly civilians in uniform. We in turn are Soldiers in uniform, one can tell by our character, our pride whether or not we are in civilian clothes or a uniform. We all as American who wear green or blue's like yourself wear the Eagle in our hearts. The problem here is NOT the government, it is their trainers, or their basic training instructors. One thing that bothers me a lot about this country (DR) is that the government do not want a Dominican Country, they want turn the Dominican into a USA. As an Intel, if you observe, the (DR) is not and individualistic country, the police uniform in (DR) changed to look like the NYPD, or New York police, including their cars. The Armed Forces, are a look alike of the US as well. I know no country in the world, I have been in many, where their Armed Forces is similar in any ways to the US Forces, nor the police department uniform is remotely similar to that of the U.S. (The DR) even went as far to copy, that they added their flags to their uniform. Most worse, we wear our flags backwards, some even did that until some American soldier brought it to their attention. The E4 asked, a group of soldier in the DR why the flag was backwards. He asked which country are the Dominican at war with? Are you getting ready to get deployed? No they responded. Those countries who were deployed with the US were allowed to have a flag, only so we do not kill them by accident, or to know friends from foes. Now they are back home, in the Dominican Republic, everyone know they are Dominican troops/police etc.. The reason we wear a flag, is because we are deployable any second, and we are ready or already here We are all over the worlds almost. That is the reason why wear the U.S. Flag. Other country's army who wear flags in their uniforms are the NATO, as well as very few in South America that consistently serve under Spain in many contingencies. Furthermore, for some reason they sent 600 Dominican troops to Iraq, because the then, president wanted them to participate in with the Spanish contingencies going to Iraq, even though he was told many time it was NOT necessary. The U.S. paid a lot of these Dominican Troops to come, even if we did not needed them. Well, there came a FRAGO, less than five months in their stay. I do not know if you in the Air Force call Fragmentations Order, the Dominican Troops were sent back to their country. I got to meet some of these troops and is embarrassing to their country. They had no money, no good food, low self esteem, I gave them money to each while they was standing in front of the PX in Iraq. None of them went to a fight, but they "assisted" in doing various jobs. We were not in charge of them but Spain was, they were part of the Spanish Contingencies. These were most Dominican Infantry, among others. Imagine, we getting paid (According to rank) almost $9000.00 dollars per month, and a soldier with only three months in service gets appx.. 4,000 per month including war pay. Not counting the money their dependent wife and children get paid. Their morale was so, so low because all of rich countries armed forces were there, mostly European, Korean, or developed countries, and here they were. I felt so bad for these guys. You could see in their eyes, they were Not soldiers only kids or men from the streets in uniform. Long ago, during the Vietnam war, I visited this country, (DR) the police had a gray uniform, their Armed Forces had their own individualized uniforms. It was not until about the late last century that they started to "Copy cat". I would love to see this country independent, and like all countries in the world individual from all. People have to learn that is the Men/Woman who makes the soldier, NOT the uniform. It is so much to tell, but this is not the place. Lastly, these guys let their flags touch the ground which expresses exactly how they feel. This is NOT the guys fault is the no good schools, low income families, command, government, their command has their noses, upside down, do not associate with lower rank, and most of all low pay pay. I remember in Iraq and President Bush visited on Thanksgiving Day (Was a surprise) he, The President of the United States, took a big platter with a whole turkey, and went to each table where the lowest of the lowest troops were seated, and SERVED them. He sat with them, spoke to them, even allowed those who had not called their mom's to use HIS phone. Prime Minister of England Tony Blair went to Iraq I observed his actions in Basra when he came out of his plane. There were many VIP's British, Americans, generals waiting for him to get out of the plane. There were also low commissioned officers in formation. Tony Blair, shook the hand of the British Forces General, and made a v line to the troops where, he stood there and shook each of them, and thank them for their service profusely. He talk to each troop of lower rank. You see the Non Commission Officers, are the "Backbone" of the United States Army. These Dominican troops were not respected by their leadership. Without the NCO's there is no U.S. Armed Forces.
