NYC Subway Full HD 60fps: R142A Gearbox/Wheel View

- Hey Guys!
The purpose of this video is to briefly show what the r142a’s Gearbox/motors look like. It also shows the undercarriage for people who are very interested. I have previously done this in the past, but I’ve attempted again with a better camera. I’ve recorded this not for me, but for the railfanning community, especially since this is something you don’t see everyday. For any concerns regarding my safety with recording, I was very careful and aware of the consequences recording this video. Myself wasn’t bent down to get this view. I used this sort of selfie stick - or “monopod” as it’s called to reach my device down to record in this angle. Attempting to film in this angle could result in dangerous consequences if you don't know what you are doing, which is why I would not recommend. This video was also made to get closer audio of the trucks running over the rail gaps, which is very useful for OpenBve users. With that being said, I hope you enjoy!

So do I. That is why I used to ride between the subway cars of express trains a long time ago. The clickety-clack of the wheels hitting the rail joints, the holler of the traction motors and the sound of the flange spinning against the edge of the rails were music to my ears. I used to get "high" from watching the train skip stations. I had not been on the subway for a very long time.
that acceleration at 1:07 was nice and its dope to see the conjunction of tracks too
I'd always watch that when I'd ride between cars plus the sound effects are intoxicating to me

This is truly awesome to see, your vids are outstanding, but man, could you imagine recording something like this and catching the sparks being created off of the third rail from the energy absorption rods touching it, that would give some startle but a crazy scenery.
Thanks man! I definitely agree with you. It was quite a risk, but I’ve put my camera at risk for the subway community to enjoy. Although I do look out for third rails. My camera was on the right side of the train rather than the left side - where the third rail was located as seen.

Camera Only. I’m actually standing while doing this. I have a mono pod which I can connect to the camera and view it down there.

nice video how come r142 and r160 sound the same and r142a and r143 do too
Arise_YT R142A and R143 both use Bombardier propulsion’s, while the R142 and R160 both use Alstom ONIX. The R160’s propulsion is slightly different tough regarding its higher pitches and more propulsion phases.

Thanks! I used a monopod. I have connected it to my phone, then stretched it down there from the monopod. It’s pretty dangerous unless you know what you are doing lol.

It’s actually the (4) ;)
7 train doesn't use R142A only R188 cause of CBTC
It technically does because most the sets that are on the (7) are converted r142as that came from the (4) and (6) lines.
@@Alex_Campbell_MTA The R188s have 11 cars, whereas the R142As have 10 cars. So far, that’s the only difference between them that I could find.

The R142A has exactly the same sound like the Siemens Desiro ML train. They are running as suburban trains in Hungary, Austria and Germany.
